Baltimore Ravens Free Agency Recap

Signing D.J. Fluker as a right guard after the draft was really their only big move offensively. Baltimore got Calias Campbell and Derek Wolfe in Free Agency. This team appears stronger at 3-4 defensive end. This team went 14-2 without these lethal 3-4 defensive ends a year ago.

Baltimore Ravens Draft Recap

The Ravens have done well in the draft the past two seasons. They had another strong draft class loading up at linebacker this time with Patrick Queen out of LSU and Malik Harrison from LSU and Ohio State. Baltimore got J.K. Dobbins out of Ohio State. The Ravens added Devin Duvernay and James Proche from Mobile for depth at wide receiver after drafting Marques Brown and Miles Boykin in the first two rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Summary: Lamar Jackson led Baltimore to an AFC North title as a rookie and won league MVP in 2019. Now many Ravens fans hope he takes this franchise back to Tampa Bay where they won their first Super Bowl twenty years later. Robert Griffin III is now the backup quarterback. Trace McSorley, a 2019 sixth round pick out of Penn State managed to make the Ravens roster once again as a third string quarterback.

Offensive coordinator Greg Roman excceeded everyone's expectations in 2019 leading Baltimore to a franchise best 14-2 record with his offensive play-calling. James Urban retained his job as the quarterbacks coach with the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore will have a new offensive coordinator that does not specialize in quarterbacks so it will be interesting to see how Lamar Jackson develops.

Baltimore Ravens Running Back Summary: Mark Ingram is the starting running back. J.K. Dobbins is the backup. Gus Edwards and Justice Hill round out this roster at running back. Matt Weiss enters his second year as the running backs coach with Baltimore. Being a former wide receivers coach certainly helps Dobbins with his development.

Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Summary: Marques Brown, Miles Boykin, Devin Duvernay, and James Proche are the weapons Lamar has. Lamar Jackson won MVP with Brown and Boykin which is why I'm excited to see if he gets Duvernay and Proche involved in this offense.

Assistant head coach David Culley enters his second year as the wide receivers coach. He has more weapons to work with.

Baltimore Ravens Tight End Summary: Baltimore has Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle despite trading Hurst away. Baltimore has two good tight ends. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman specializes in developing tight ends. Bobby Engram enters his second year as the tight ends coach. The former NFL receiver did a great job with Andrews in 2019.

Baltimore Ravens Offensive Line Summary: Baltimore has Ronnie Stanley at left tackle. Bradley Bozeman is moving to left guard. Matt Skura will start at center. D.J. Fluker will play right guard. Orlando Brown Jr. is projected to start at right tackle.

Joe D'Alessandris is returning as the offensive line coach. He bounced back in a big way.

Baltimore managed to keep all of their offensive positional coaches after a career season best regular season record. These guys are only going to be hungrier to improve after what happened in January against Mike Vrabel's Tennessee Titans.

Baltimore Ravens Defensive Line Summary: Calias Campbell and Derek Wolfe are both huge improvements at 3-4 defensive end. Brandon Williams is still the nose tackle on this team, and he may do better with the best pair of 3-4 defensive ends, this team has to work with. Joe Cullen is a good defensive line coach and he will get the best of this group.

Baltimore Ravens Linebacker Summary: Pernell McPhee still compliments Matt Judon at 3-4 right outside linebacker. This feels like an area that could be improved. The good news is the Ravens have two reliable backups with Jaylon Ferguson and Tyus Bowser. Baltimore also has two rookie starters in Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison so we're gonna find out just exactly what Baltimore has done to improve their linebacker situation which was the biggest liability on this defense in 2019.

Don Martindale was a great linebackers coach when he was on the Raiders back in the day when they had Kirk Morrison in his prime when Morrison played at a Pro Bowl level. Now Martindale is on the Ravens, and he's done well with this unit. Martindale has grown a lot since Oakland. As a result Baltimore promoted Martindale to defensive coordinator, and Mike McDonald is the linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore should not have a drop off with their front 7 thanks to having the same coaches. At the same time, you can argue this team didn't do enough to improve their edge rusher situation next to Judon.

Baltimore Ravens Defensive Backs Summary: Baltimore has Jimmy Smith at field cornerback. Marcus Peters may compliment Smith at the boundary, but Balitmore now has two corners who can lockdown number one receivers. Marlon Humphrey and Tavon Young are both fully healthy which is kind of scary when you consider that Baltimore got home field with Young on injured reserve. Baltimore will promote Anthony Averett to quarter cornerback. Baltimore has incredibe depth at cornerback and arguably more depth at cornerback then any team in the AFC North Division once again.

Chris Clark and DeShon Elliott are starting at safety. Clark did okay when taking over for Tony Jefferson, but I feel like the Ravens can get an upgrade over him. On the other hand, I was a huge fan of Elliott coming out of Texas even though he fell to the fifth round, and now he's gonna be starting at free safety now that Baltimore released Earl Thomas. Baltimore's biggest weakness on defense will be at safety and if they can get good play from Clark and Elliott there isn't a team in the NFL that can stop them from winning the Lombardi Trophy in Tampa Bay outside of maybe Kansas City.

Jesse Minter is back as the defensive backs coach. Baltimore has a top 15 defense when everyone is healthy. I'm really curious to see how this team does with all of their coaches back on both sides of the ball.

Baltimore Ravens Special Teams Summary: Justin Tucker the leagues best kicker. Sam Koch had a 67 yard punt last year and his punts average 46 yards per punt. Koch is one of the better punters in the NFL. I like Willie Snead and Justice Hill on special teams more than last years return specialists.

Special teams coordinator Chris Horton was the assistant special teams coordinator for five years from 2014-2018. He took over as special teams coordinator in 2019. Baltimore has their entire coaching staff from last year back at every position, and they went 14-2 a year ago with this exact same staff.

Baltimore Ravens Worst Case Scenario: The Ravens go 11-5 and win this division. Then they lose in the wild card round again as a 2 seed.

Baltimore Ravens Best Case Scenario: Baltimore goes 19-0. They achieve what the Super Bowl 42 Patriots failed to accomplish.

Baltimore Ravens 2020 Projected Record (13-3): Baltimore has all of their coaches back from a loaded 2019 squad that went 14-2. They have most of their players back. If they can get home field again in the 7-team playoff, then Lamar Jackson may win his first Super Bowl. The only team that may be standing in their way is last years Super Bowl Champion, the Kansas City Chiefs.
