Chris Ransom grades the Cincinnati Bengals 2015 NFL Draft. Does Cincinnati have a bright future after double dipping at offensive tackle in the first two rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft?
21. Cedric Ogbuhei, LT, Texas A&M B Grade
Cedric Ogbuhei will begin his career as the backup left tackle. He should start at left tackle in 2016.
53. Jake Fisher, RT, Oregon B Grade
Jake Fisher is listed as the backup right tackle on the Bengals. I expect Andre Smith to become a free agent in 2016 like Whitworth. Smith will want too much money, and I think Fisher will be ready to start at right tackle by then.
85. Tyler Kroft, TE, Rutgers B Grade
Some NFL teams had Tyler Kroft as the third best tight end after Maxx Williams and Clive Walford. I really believe this is a solid pick. It's not a pick that wows me, but Bengals' should feel very optimistic about Kroft's arrival.
99. Paul Dawson, MLB, TCU B Grade
Paul Dawson is another solid pick. He gives you a viable backup middle linebacker that can start down the road.
120. Josh Shaw, CB, USC C Grade
Cincinnati could have grabbed a better corner than Shaw. With the depth the Bengals' have at cornerback, you cannot really fault this pick as Shaw will begin his career as a quarter cornerback on this depth chart.
135. Marcus Hardison, DT, Arizona State B Grade
Cincinnati had solid starters and backups for depth at defensive tackle. Now the Bengals have third string depth in the trenches at defensive tackle. Gene Atkins and Domata Peko remain the starers, Pat Sims and Brandon Thompson are you backups. Hardison will compliment Devon Still on the third team.
Hardison looked like one of the sleepers in this years draft with the versatility to play anywhere on the defensive line. I think Cincinnati will use 3 sets of defensive tackles and keep 6 defensive tackle
Even though Hardison is listed as a third stringer, the Bengals are still getting a B grade here. This team has a lot of depth at defensive tackle, but needed one more guy in the trenches at defensive tackle which his why Cincinnati got a B grade.
157. C.J. Uzomah, TE, Auburn B Grade
I criticized this pick at first. Things are different now as I gave the Bengals a B grade. With Tyler Eifert out with an injury until training camp and Tyler Kroft having yet to sign with the Bengals, there is only one tight end getting first team reps with Cincinnati at the moment. That player is C.J. Uzomah. Uzomah needs all the first team reps he can get after a sluggish college career. This his lone window of opportunity to sway the Bengals into starting him at some point as a rookie.
197. Derron Smith, FS, Fresno State B Grade
I love this pick. I think Smith should start at free safety. Right now he's listed as a third string free safety which is why this pick got bumped down to a B pick. If Smith has any potential to start, he has to beat out Shilo Keo for the backup free safety gig.
238. Mario Alford, WR, West Virginia B Grade
Mario Alford has the potential to start in the slot. Right now he's listed as the #7 on the depth chart. If Alford cannot work his way up to the #5 receiver role by the end of training camp, he's probably not a guy with the potential to become a starter at the next level.
Cincinnati Bengals Team Grade: B Grade
Cincinnati had a solid, but not a spectacular draft. There's enough talent and depth for Dalton to win one playoff game in the 2016 NFL Playoffs. If Dalton cannot win in the 2016 NFL Playoffs, you have to be open to starting A.J. McCarron by 2016 or 2017 while he continues to develop in 2015.
