2016 NFL Mock Draft: 3 Rounds
Round 2
Jason Bantle Last Updated: April 24, 2016.
Cleveland Browns: Germain Ifedi, RT, Texas A&M
- If Cleveland takes Ezekiel Elliott at 8 then they need to build a run first offense around their feature running back. The Browns' need a new starting right tackle. Germain Ifedi looked better in pass protection with footwork in 2015. Ifedi is the best run blocker outside of the first round offensive tackles. Giving Elliott a run blocker like Ifedi will allow Cleveland to have a lot of success running the football. Having Isiah Crowell and Duke Johnson as backups with Ifedi up front puts Cleveland in a position where they can run on first and second down to wear down opposing defense.
Previous Pick: Kevin Dodd, LE, Clemson
Tennessee Titans: Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
- The Tennessee Titans add some depth to their secondary at cornerback. Jason McCourty and Perrish Cox can be an effective cornerback tandem when healthy, but injuries kept both out and with backups having to step in at cornerback, the Titans had one of the NFL's worst secondaries. Fuller would start in the nickel and if he's healthy, he could be the Titans #1 cornerback by the end of the season.
Previous Pick: Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama
Dallas Cowboys: Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama
- Dallas is just as high on Derrick Henry and Kenneth Dixon as they are on Ezekiel ELliott. Dallas can grab a third running back to compliment Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris by taking the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner with this pick.
Previous Pick: Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State
San Diego Chargers: Hassan Ridgeway, 3-4 LE, Texas
- San Diego is high on Hassan Ridgeway. Ridgeway played 4-3 DT, 3-4 RE, 3-4 NT, and 3-4 LE. He's more versatile than people realize, and the Chargers still need someone across form Corey Liuget and Ridgeway at 6-3 300 lbs seems like an ideal fit for a 3-4 LE in San Diego.
Previous Pick: Spencer Drango, LG, Baylor
Baltimore Ravens: Vadal Alexander, LG, LSU
- Baltimore likes Vadal Alexander. They lost Kelechi Osmele and view Alexander as a late first round prospect despite doing bad in some workouts leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft.
San Francisco 49ers: Joshua Garnett, RG, Stanford
- San Francisco needs a starting right guard. Joshua Garnett is an incredible run blocker and a steal at this point.
Previous Pick: Leonte Carroo, WR, Rutgers
Jacksonville Jaguars: James Bradberry, CB, Samford
- Jacksonville continues to improve the secondary even after going out for Amuakamara, and Gipson. James Bradberry is good project cornerback for Jacksonville to consider at this spot.
Previous Pick: Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Zack Sanchez, CB, Oklahoma
- Tampa Bay gets a cornerback here. Zack Sanchez is the only cornerback with a first round grade outside of Vernon Hargreaves III that the Buccaneers are sold on at this point.
New York Giants: Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi State
- The Giants draft a defensive tackle here. Chris Jones got an invite to day 1 of the 2016 NFL Draft meaning if he's there in the second round, then the Giants will take him.
Previous Pick: Rashard Robinson, CB, LSU
Chicago Bears: John Theus, LT, Georgia
- The Chicago Bears believe John Theus could be a sleeper at 41. I think he makes sense if they go with Myles Jack in the first round.
Miami Dolphins: Scooby Wright, MLB, Arizona
- The Miami Dolphins will likely start Kiko Alonso at right outside linebacker on the weak side. Miami had Scooby Wright higher than both Myles Jack or Reggie Ragland. The Dolphins can take Wright here in the second round without it looking bad on their part.
Tennessee Titans: Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame
- The Titans get a new option for a slot receiver. Will Fuller is a great value pick at this point in the second round.
Previous Pick: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
Oakland Raiders: Karl Joseph, SS, West Virginia
- The Oakland Raiders need an upgrade at strong safety. The Raiders, like the Dolphins are smitten with Karl Joseph's zone coverage.
Tennessee Titans: Anthony Zettel, 3-4 LE, Penn State
- The Titans need a 3-4 defensive end. Anthony Zettel can play 3-4 left end.
Previous Pick: Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame
Detroit Lions: Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech
- Detroit loves Vernon Butler. They will take him at 45 if he's there after taking Jack Conklin in the first round.
New Orleans Saints: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville
- New Orleans can go with the best player available. Drafting someone like Sheldon Rankins in the second round is a steal.
Previous Pick: Kenyan Drake, RB, Alabama
Indianapolis Colts: Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama
- Indianapolis is considering Ryan Kelly at 18. If he falls to this pick, they will take him in the second round.
Previous Pick: Taylor Decker, RT, Ohio State
Buffalo Bills: Keanu Neal, FS, Florida
- The Buffalo Bills will get a safety here. Keanu Neal can play both safety spots at strong safety and free safety plus he provides great depth for the Bills here.
Previous Pick: Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson
Atlanta Falcons: Von Bell, SS, Ohio State
- Atlanta needs a safety. One guy they have been scouting heavily is Von Bell who would be a great fit for Atlanta.
Previous Pick: Leonard Floyd, ROLB, Georgia
New York Jets: Taylor Decker, RT, Ohio State
- The New York Jets need a right tackle. Taylor Decker would compliment Ryan Clady well.
Previous Pick: Jordan Jenkins, LOLB, Georgia
Houston Texans: Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State
- Houston drafts a backup quarterback now that Brian Hoyer has been released. Hackenberg was coached by Bill O'Brien at Penn State before he coached the Texans.
Previous Pick: Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama
Washington Redskins: Austin Johnson, NT, Penn State
- Washington needs a nose tackle. They never replaced Terrance Knighton and Austin Johnson would be an awesome fit here.
Previous Pick: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville
Minnesota Vikings: Cody Whitehair, LG, Kansas State
- Minnesota drafts a left guard here. I had Cody Whitehair going to the Vikings in the first round before his shaky NFL Combine. Luckily for the Vikings they get Whitehair here.
Cincinnati Bengals: Miles Killebrew, FS, Southern Utah
- Miles Killebrew isn't a strong safety only. He's also versatile enough to play free safety posting a pick 6 against Nevada at free safety. Killebrew is a guy the Bengals are eying as a replacement to Reggie Nelson.
Seattle Seahawks: Jonathan Bullard, LE, Florida
- Seattle gets a defensive end for depth. Jonathan Bullard would be a good addition for Seattle here.
Previous Pick: Joshua Garnett, LG, Stanford
Green Bay Packers: Hunter Henry, TE, Arkansas
- The Packers need a new tight end. Hunter Henry is the top tight end in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Kamalei Correa, 3-4 LOLB, Boise State
- Pittsburgh goes with the best player available on their board. Kamalei Correa is quite the pass rusher and fits Pittsburgh's 3-4 scheme well.
Previous Pick: William Jackson III, CB, Houston
Kansas City Chiefs: William Jackson III, CB, Houston
- Kansas City needs a cornerback to replace Shaun Smith. William Jackson III makes a ton of sense after his brilliant Pro Day.
Previous Pick: Xavien Howard, CB, Baylor
New England Patriots: Leonard Floyd, ROLB, Georgia
- New England takes the best player available here. At this point that player is Leonard Floyd.
Previous Pick: Joe Haeg, RT, North Dakota State
New England Patriots: Kenneth Dixon, RB, Louisiana Tech
- Kenneth Dixon worked out with the Patriots. He gives New England another dynamic pass catching running back.
Previous Pick: Pharoh Cooper, WR, South Carolina
Carolina Panthers: Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh
- Carolina gets a wide receiver to compliment Kelvin Benjamin. Tyler Boyd impressed at his Pro Day so now the Panthers may reconsider the idea of drafting him at 62.
Denver Broncos: Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State
- Denver gets a developmental quarterback. At this point the top developmental quarterback is Dak Prescott of Mississippi State.
Previous Pick: Germain Ifedi, RT, Texas A&M
