Marcell Dareus Gets Contract Extension With Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills re-signed Marcell Dareus to a six-year $108-million dollar deal which will keep him in Buffalo through the next seven seasons. The Bills' top 5 draft pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, who was selected third overall out of Alabama received $60 million in guaranteed money which is now the most by a non quarterback in the NFL.

Dareus was one player that the Buffalo Bills had to secure. He's been consistent each season. His 43 total tackles and 5.5 sacks were decent as a rookie in 2011. He had less tackles in his second year, but had a career best 6 deflections that season. In 2013, Dareus really blossomed as a run stuffer with 71 total tackles while posting 7.5 sacks. This season in 2014, Dareus had a career high 10 sacks.

Marcell Dareus is a guy that can play 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 right end, 3-4 left end, or 3-4 nose tackle. In addition to having this versatility he weighs in at 6-3 331 lbs showing elite run stuffing and the pass rushing to play in the 5-technique if necessary.

Dareus will be suspended for the Bills season opener against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. Next week he will be back ready to take on Tom Brady in week 2 when New England travels to Buffalo.

Some will tell you Dareus received too much money. I disagree if anything he should have gotten at least $110 million because Suh got $114 million and Dareus ranks second among defensive tackles in sacks in 2011 with 28.5 which is greater than the 26 Suh posted in Detroit.
