Morgan Epstein grades the Miami Dolphins 2016 NFL Draft. Does Miami have a bright future after drafting Laremy Tunsil with the thirteenth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?
13. Laremy Tunsil, LG, Ole Miss A Grade
There is no question Laremy Tunsil was the biggest steal in the first round. Many expected Tunsil to go first overall before the Titans traded down in the draft.
Laremy Tunsil is starting at left guard instead of left tackle. That's why the Dolphins are getting an A grade rather than an A+ grade.
38. Xavien Howard, CB, Baylor A Grade
Xavien Howard is projected to start out as a nickel cornerback. I think he's good enough to surpass both Byron Maxwell and Bobby McCain as the #1 field cornerback on this roster. Miami made a great pick here.
73. Kenyan Drake, RB, Alabama A Grade
Kenyan Drake is a great pass catcher out of the backfield. He may end up getting more carries than Derrick Henry this year simply because Henry has to learn behind Murray while Drake is splitting carries with Jay Ajayi. Both former Alabama running backs are backups right now, but both backs have a chance to become solid starters at some point.
86. Leonte Carroo, WR, Rutgers A- Grade
Miami got a wide receiver who could be a backup to Kenny Stills right now and an eventual replacement to Stills if he gets injured again. Carroo is going to Miami where he will be in a great situation.
186. Jakeem Grant, WR, Texas Tech B+ Grade
The Dolphins now use a three wide receiver set on offense. Jakeem Grant can play special teams plus he is the backup slot receiver to DeVante Parker.
204. Jordan Lucas, CB, Penn State D Grade
Jordan Lucas is the #8 cornerback on Miami's depth chart. He has the versatility to play cornerback, strong safety, or free safety which is why this pick got a D grade.
223. Brandon Doughty, QB, Western Kentucky A Grade
Brandon Doughty was an awesome pick. He's already the third stringer and he's pushing Matt Moore for the right to be Ryan Tannehill's backup. Great pick by Miami here.
231. Thomas Duarte, TE, UCLA F Grade
Thomas Duarte was a wide receiver at UCLA. The Dolphins are moving him to tight end due to his size and blocking. He's a fourth string tight end in Miami.
Miami Dolphins Team Grade: A- Grade
Miami had an outstanding draft. I'm curious how Adam Gase develops these guys as well as veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill in Miami after having Jay Cutler look like he had some purpose on Sundays.
