Washington outshot Vegas 9-7 in the first period. Neither team scored in the first period though.

Jakub Vrana scored the first goal of the game on a wrist shot in the second period. Washington led 1-0. Nate Schmidt tied it, but the tie didn't last for long as Alex Ovechkin scored to give Washington a 2-1 lead. David Perron tied it and then Reilly Smith gave the Vegas Golden Knights a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.

Washington tied it in the third period. Lars Eller scored the game-winning goal. The Washington Capitals won the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals.

I predicted that Vegas would play Washington for the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals and I was lucky to call that. Washington ended up winning the Stanley Cup. Alex Ovechkin showed a lot of raw emotion after winning the Stanley Cup for the first time. The way this team came together to win road games against Columbus, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay in game 7, and the Vegas Golden Knights after losing game 1 to win four straight like Vegas did in the Western Conference Finals versus Winnipeg was truely impressive.
