Cleveland Indians Defeat Chicago Cubs In Game 4 Of 2016 World Series

Corey Kluber was set to face John Lackey in game 4 of the 2016 World Series at Wrigley Field. Kluber helped Cleveland win game 1 of the 2016 World Series and is pitching again tonight in Chicago.


Rajai Davis was the lead off bat. Davis stepped up to bat to face John Lackey in the top of the first inning. Lackey pitched one ball and one strike to start this game. Kris Bryant caught a grounder that Davis hit his way and Bryant threw that grounder to Anthony Rizzo for the first out in the top of the first inning.


John Lackey pitched a ball to Jason Kipnis to make it 1-0. Then Kipnis hit a foul ball to even the count at 1-1. Lackey pitched another ball to make it 2-1. Kipnis hit another foul ball. Lackey struck out Kipnis for strike two.


Lackey pitched two strikes to Francisco Lindor. Lackey then pitched three cutters to Lindor all of those cutters were balls to make it a full count at 3-2. Lindor hit another foul ball. Lackey struck out Lindor to retire the side.


John Lackey threw 16 pitches in the top of the first inning. The Cubs had a chance to step up to bat with the game scoreless after the top of the first inning.


Corey Kluber took the mound for the first time since game 1 of the 2016 World Series. Dexter Fowler, Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo would all face Kluber in the bottom of the first inning.


Dexter Fowler stepped up to bat. Fowler fired a 93-mile per hour sinker to Dexter Fowler for strike one. Fowler hit a foul ball from Kluber to make it 0-2 in the bottom of the first inning. Fowler hit another foul ball before Kluber pitched a ball to make it 1-2. Kluber pitched another foul ball which kept the count at 1-2. Fowler got a double since Davis could not make the catch in the bottom of the first inning.


Kris Bryant stepped up to bat. Corey Kluber pitched a ball to Bryant with an 89-mile per hour slider. Kluber pitched an 84-mile per hour curveball to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Lindor caught a pop fly that Bryant hit his way.


Anthony Rizzo stepped up to bat with 1 out in the bottom of the first inning. Rizzo had Dexter Fowler on second base. Rizzo hit a foul ball on a 90-mile per hour slider. Rizzo hit an RBI that brought Fowler home. Ben Zobrist stepped up to bat, but he hit a pop up to Tyler Naquin for the second out in the bottom of the first inning.


Wilson Contreras stepped up to bat. Kluber pitched a 92-mile per hour sinker. Then Klbuer pitched an 88-mile per hour slider that Contreras hit for a foul ball. The count was 0-2 in the bottom of the first inning. The count was 1-2 with two outs after Kluber pitched a ball. Rizzo stole a base, but the inning should have ended on a strike that was called a ball. Contreras struck out allowing Kluber to get his first strikeout of the night.


Corey Kluber pitched 18 pitches in the bottom of the first inning. The Chicago Cubs led game 4 of the 2016 World Series 1-0 after one inning with Lackey only throwing 16 pitches in the top of the first inning. It was critical for Lackey to stay ahead of Kluber in the pitch count throwing fewer pitches. That will be critical if the Cubs want to win game 4 of the 2016 World Series.


John Lackey pitched a ball to Carlos Santana. Lackey pitched two balls to Carlos Santana before pitching his first strike. Lackey threw 3 consecutive two-seam fastballs before throwing a cutter for ball 3. Santana filled in for Mike Napoli at first base. Santana hit a home run to tie this game at 1 in the top of the second inning.


Jose Ramirez hit a grounder to Rizzo. That made it an out. John Lackey pitched it to Lonnie Chisenhall. Lackey rebounded against Ramirez and Chisenhall firing his 2-seam fastball and cutter to Lonnie Chisenhall. Kris Bryant threw an error which allowed Lonnie Chisenhall to get on first base in the top of the second inning.


Roberto Perez stepped up to bat in the top of the second inning. Lackey threw a 91-mile per hour 2-seam fastball to Perez for strike one. Lackey threw a pitch to make it 2-2 against Roberto Perez. Lackey pitched a ball which set up a full count in the top of the second inning.


Lackey got Perez out. The Cubs walked Tyler Naquin though. Corey Kluber stepped up to bat at pitcher. Lackey set up the count to 3-2 against Corey Kluber. Kluber broke his bat after a second consecutive pitch. Kluber got on base and Chisenhall came home to score. Cleveland took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning.


Cleveland got the first lead change of the 2016 World Series in game 4 of the 2016 World Series. Rajai Davis got out in the top of the second inning. John Lackey had 50 pitches through 2 innings after throwing 16 pitches in the top of the first inning.


Kluber pitched a strike to Addison Russell. Kluber made it 0-2 in the bottom of the second inning. Lonnie Chisenhall caught a pop up out that Russell hit his way.


Jason Heyward got his first start since game 5 of the 2016 NLCS. Corey Kluber pitched a strike to Jason Heyward on a 92-mile per hour sinker. Kluber fired a 92-mile per hour sinker to make it 1-1. Corey Kluber threw an 89-mile per hour slider to make it 1-2 after Heyward hit a foul ball. Hewyard hit another foul ball. Jason Heyward got a hit with one out in the bottom of the second inning.


Corey Kluber pitched a double play to Javier Baez. Jose Ramirez threw the ball to Jason Kipnis and then Kipnis threw it to Carlos Santana for the double play. Corey Kluber only threw 10 pitches in the bottom of the second inning giving him 28 pitches compared to John Lackey’s 50 pitches after two innings.


John Lackey threw a pitch to Jason Kipnis. Kipnis hit that for a double. Francisco Lindor stepped up to bat with Jason Kipnis on second base with no outs in the top of the third inning. Lackey threw his first ball to Lindor with the count at 1-2 in the top of the third inning. Lackey threw another ball to make it 2-2. Lackey set up a full count, Francisco Lindor hit an RBI to make it a 3-1 Cleveland Indians lead in the top of the third inning.


Carlos Santana stepped up to bat. John Lackey threw a strike to Carlos Santana before pitching a ball to make it 1-1. Santana hit a foul ball to make it 1-2. Lackey fired an 85-mile per hour cutter. Middle reliever Mike Montgomery was warmingup in the top of the third inning. John Lackey struck out Santana.


Addison Russell set up a double play by throwing to Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo. The Indians led 3-1 after the top of the third inning. John Lackey threw 67 pitches during three innings. Chicago put Mike Montgomery in the bullpen. Lackey was about to step up to bat, but would manager Joe Maddon make a switch here.


Corey Kluber pitched to John Lackey. Corey Kluber got his second strikeout when he struck out John Lackey.


Dexter Fowler stepped up to bat. Fowler got an on base hit in the top of the first inning. Fowler grounded out to Carlos Santana in his second at bat.


Kris Bryant stepped up to bat with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Corey Kluber used a curveball, sinker, and slider to make it a full count against Kris Bryant in the bottom of the third inning. Kluber walked Kris Bryant to put Bryant on base with Anthony Rizzo about to step up to bat.


Anthony Rizzo hit an RBI in the bottom of the first inning that brought Dexter Fowler home. He also stole a base in his last at bat. Corey Kluber pitched an 84-mile per hour curveball for ball one. Rizzo pitched an 89-mile per hour slider for ball 2. The count was 2-0. Corey Kluber pitched an 83-mile per hour power curveball in the top corner of the strike zone. Corey Kluber accidentally hit Anthony Rizzo putting Kris Bryant on second base and Anthony Rizzo on first base.


Ben Zobrist stepped up to bat. Corey Kluber pitched a 91-mile per hour sinker to Ben Zobrist. Kluber pitched an 84-mile per hour curveball to Zobrist for ball 1. Zobrist hit a foul ball to make it 1-2. Zobrist hit another foul ball to keep the count at 1-2. Zobrist hit a fourth consecutive foul ball. Zobrist hit a fifth foul ball. Corey Kluber got out of the inning with Cleveland ahead 3-1. Corey Kluber pitched 54 pitches through 3 innings after winning that showdown with Ben Zobrist with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.


John Lackey quickly worked his way through the top of the fourth inning. Lackey got quck two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Lackey got out of the inning pretty quickly. John Lackey threw 75 pitches through 4 innings at Wrigley Field against the Cleveland Indians.


Corey Kluber struck out Wilson Contreras on three consecutive pitches. Kluber recorded his fourth strikeout of the game.


Addison Russell stepped up bat. He hit a pitch into center field where center fielder Tyler Naquin caught the second out of the inning.


Corey Kluber struck out Javier Baez. That retired the side. Corey Kluber retired the side and threw 66 pitches after four innings.


Corey Kluber stepped up to bat in the top of the fifth inning. Kluber struck out in the top of the fifth inning.


Rajai Davis and Jason Kipnis hit ground outs. John Lackey threw 84 pitches through five innings at Wrigley Field.


Chris Coghlan stepped up to bat as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kluber pitched strike one to Chris Coghlan. Rajai Davis caught the first out. Dexter Fowler hit another out to Lonnie Chisenhall.


Kris Bryant stepped up to bat. Lindor got Bryant out to end the fifth inning. Corey Kluber threw 72 pitches through 5 innings.


Mike Montgomery came in for John Lackey. Montgomery walked Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana got a hit to put two runners on base with no outs in the top of the sixth inning.


Jose Ramirez singled. Chicago went for the double play and only got one out. Francisco Lindor got to third base in the top of the sixth inning. Cleveland had runners on the corners with one out in the top of the sixth inning.


Lonnie Chisenhall was out. Francisco Lindor got the run. Chisenhall’s sacrifice fly gave Cleveland a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Cleveland had one more chance to get something going with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.


Mike Montgomery walked another batter in the top of the sixth inning. Brandon Guyer came in for Tyler Naquin. Cleveland led 4-1 with runners on second and first in game 4 of the 2016 World Series.


Justin Grimm came in for Mike Montgomery in the top of the sixth inning. Grimm struck out Guyer on a check swing that should have been called a ball. Cleveland led 4-1 after the top of the sixth inning.


Corey Kluber pitched a hit to Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo got a double here. Ben Zobrist swung for strike one. Kluber threw an 83-mile per hour curveball to Ben Zobrist. That made it 0-2. Brandon Guyer made the out at left fielder.


Wilson Contreras stepped up to bat. Corey Kluber threw an 83-mile per hour curveball to Wilson Contreras. Kluber went back to his 84-mile per hour curveball to make it strike two. Kluber struck out Contreras to make it two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.


Corey Kluber pitched an 89-mile per hour slider to Addison Russell. Jose Ramirez threw an out to Carlos Santana. The Indians led 4-1 after six innings.


Coco Crisp stepped up to bat. Justin Grimm threw two strikes to Coco Crisp. Crisp threw an 84-mile per hour curveball for ball 1. Grimm threw a 95-mile per hour 4-seam fastball. Crisp checked his swing to make it 2-2. Crisp hit an 82-mile per hour curveball for a foul ball. Grimm pitched a third ball to make it a full count.


Coco Crisp hit a double in the top of the seventh inning. Rajai Davis stepped up to bat. Crisp got on third base after a wild bat. Rajai Davis got hit by Justin Grimm. Davis set it up so there were runners on the corners with no outs in the top of the seventh inning.


Travis Wood came in for Justin Grimm. Jason Kipnis stepped up to bat with two runners on base. Kipnis hit a 3-run home run. That made it a 7-1 game.


Andrew Miller threw 7 pitches in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cleveland led 7-1 after seven innings.


Dexter Fowler homered. That made it a 7-2 game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Miller pitched three more outs. Cleveland led 7-2 after 8 innings in game 4 of the 2016 World Series.


Dan Otero came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning for Cleveland. The Indians took a 3-1 series lead. Tomorrow will be game 5 at Wrigley FIeld. Trevor Bauer will face Jon Lester in what will be a must win for the Cubs. If Bauer can pull the upset the Cleveland Indians will be the 2016 World Series Champions.
