Kansas City Royals Win One Of The Longest Games In World Series History

Edinson Volquez got off to a hot start in game 1 of the 2015 World Series. He retired the first three Mets batters and even struck out Daniel Murphy.
Shortstop Alcedes Escobar hit an inside the park home run in game 1 of the 2015 World Series. Matt Harvey recovered from that, but the Royals built the momentum they needed to build in the bottom of the first inning.
Edinson Volquez retired the 4, 5, and 6 batters as the Mets top 6 batters each got sent back to the clubhouse without a hit in the first two innings. Kansas City was off to a great start due to Volquez. Volquez retired the 7, 8, and 9 hitters in the top of the third inning.
The New York Mets have tied the game at 1 in the top of the fourth. Then Curtis Granderson hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to give the Mets their first lead of the 2015 World Series. Then Yoenis Cesepedes gave the Mets a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Kansas City Royals second baseman Ben Zobrist scored to make it a 1 run game. The Mets still led 3-2 as Bartolo Colon warmed up in the bullpen as a long reliever. Third baseman Mike Moustakas hit an RBI which tied the game at 3 after center fielder Lorenzo Cain stole a base in the bottom of the sixth.
Middle reliever Danny Duffy stepped in for Volquez after Volquez pitched 6 innings. Kelvin Herrera came in for Duffy with 2 outs in the op of the seventh.
Herrera held his own in the top of the eighth until shortstop Wilmer Flores scored a run to take the lead. The Mets led 4-3.
Setup pitcher Tyler Clippard came in the bottom of the eighth for the New York Mets. Clippard gave up a double, but he did his job and got the Royals batters out. Then in the top of the ninth, closer Jeurys Familia came into to get the save. Unfortunately for him left fielder Alex Gordon tied the game at 4 in the bottom of the ninth.
The game went to extra innings. Neither team scored in the bottom of the tenth inning and Eric Hosmer struck out with 2 outs in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The game kept going into the top of the twelth inning. The Royals brought in their second to last relief pitcher to retire the side before the Mets brought in Bartolo Colon who was the #1 pitcher in the Mets starting rotation in 2014. The Mets still had 4 other relief pitchers in their bullpen and the Royals were down to one left handed arm along with their other three starters for game 2.
Chris Young managed to pitch 2 full innings as he got through the top of the thirteenth without giving up a run. Kansas City would get a chance to win it in the bottom of the thirteenth. No World Series game has ever gone longer than 14 innings so there was obviously a lot of excitement.
Bartolo Colon loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourteenth. Eric Hosmer hit a pop up before Alcedes Escoar tagged back to third base before running home for the game winning run.
Escobar started this game with his inside the park home run and he ended it with the game winning run in the bottom of the fourteenth inning in a game that lasted 5 hours and 9 minutes. Game 2 will be tonight at 7:30 PM EST.
Bartolo Colon also made history being the oldest pitcher to lose a World Series game. Chris Young had 3 hitless innings with one walk. The Royals take game 1 1-0 as both bullpens are fatigued heading into game 2.
