Detroit Red Wings Unleash Scoring Frenzy At Coors Field In 2016 Stadium Series
Posted By: Lisa Donovan on 2/15/2016
Tomas Tatar scored first for Detroit to put them up 1-0. Nate MacKinnon the top pick in the 2013 NHL Draft scored the equalizer that made it 1-1. Late in the first period Colorado scored with Tyson Barrie putting Colorado up 2-1.
Neither team scored in the second period. Detroit tied the game at 2 in the third period when Gustav Nyqvist tied it up. Justin Abdelkader gave Detroit a 3-2 lead, but seconds later Nate MacKinnon dished an assist to Alex Tanguay who shot a wrist shot to make it a 3-3 game.
This game was very intense. I thought it was gonna go to overtime. Then Brad Richards delivered a clutch goal to give Detroit a 4-3 lead before the Red Wings won 5-3 scoring an empty net goal.
Both teams had 27 shots on goal. Colorado blocked more shots even though you could make the case that this defense is shaky outside of Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson. Still, this isn't about Colorado. This is about Detroit. The Red Wings attacked Varlamov and constantly created scoring chances in the third period. That's the biggest reason they rallied back to defeat Colorado in a very close game.
