Saint John Sea Dogs: Joshua Roy, C, (2021) A+ Grade
- The 5-11 165 lb Joshua Roy was the first overall pick in the 2019 QMJHL Draft. The top selection still hasn't signed his rookie deal yet and will have to compete against the 5-7 165 lb Josh Lawrence a 2018 QMJHL first round pick for the top line spot. The longer Roy holds out, the better chance Lawrence has of remaining ahead of him on Saint John's line.
- His 33 goals, 50 assists, and 88 points in the QMAAA stand out in 2018-2019. Roy also had 6 goals, 5 assists, and 11 points in 11 QMAAA Playoff games with the Levis Chevaliers. Roy is the top prospect and arguably the best player in this draft. He hasn't signed his rookie deal yet. Despite this, I still think Roy is an A+ prospect. However Roy probably has the biggest ego of any CHL prospect I've seen since Nail Yakupov.
- Despite being only 16, Roy has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL. He was the team captain of Levis Chevaliers in 2018-2019 so despite his agents demanding a lot, he's put the work in and has the talent to be a line 1 talent right away.
- If Joshua Roy can dominate on the Saint John Sea Dogs like he did with Levis Chevaliers, he could be the first pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Roy's competition involves Lulea HF goalie Jesper Wallstedt, Oulun Karpat left winger Aatu Raty, and Edmonton Oil Kings left winger Dylan Guenter, who was the first pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. Roy is competing with these three players to be the top pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Val-d'Or Foreurs: Justin Robidas, C, (2021) A+ Grade
- The 5-7 161 lb center is the son of former NHL defenseman Stephen Robidas. Robidas is a guy who looks like a line 2 player rather than a line 1 player that his father was.
- Justin Robidas had 28 goals, 25 assists, 53 points, and a +37 +/- ratio in the GTMMHL. Robidas does not score like most centers. He defends well like a line 1 center. He's got the offensive production of a line 3 center, but the defensive play of a top line center. He probably projects as a line 2 center in the NHL, but could become a highly coveted line 1 center if he dominates in the QMJHL.
- Despite being only 16, Robidas has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL.
- Robidas has all the intangibles on tape. He has to improve his production on the Val-d'Or Foreurs at the next level.
Moncton Wildcats: Zachary L'Heureux, C, (2021) B- Grade
- The 5-11 187 lb Zachary L'Heureux had 21 goals, 31 assists, and 52 points in QMAAA with the Ch́°½teauguay Grenadiers. L'Heureux has a strong work ethic. He has the ceiling of a line 2 player. I'm not even sure if he's going to the QMJHL or the USHL which is why this pick gets a B- grade.
Gatineau Olympiques: Zach Dean, C, (2021) A+ Grade
- The 6-0 161 lb Zach Dean was a line 1 center on the Toronto Nationals Minor Midget AAA Team. Dean had 36 goals, 53 assists, and 89 points in 2018-2019. Dean will have a chance to really show off his work ethic with the Gatineau Olympiques.
- Despite being only 16, Dean has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL.
Shawinigan Cataractes: Olivier Nadeau, C, (2021) B Grade
- The 6-2 190 lb Olivier Nadeau had 21 goals, 31 assists, and 52 points in 2018-2019. Nadeau has the upside to be a third line or second line player in the NHL. He will play for Shawinigan right away.
Val-d'Or Foreurs: Evan Nause, D, (2021) F Grade
- Evan Nause is going to play for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL. That's why this pick gets an F grade.
Victoriaville Tigres: Guillaume Richard, D, (2021) F Grade
- Like Evan Nause, Guillaume Richard is going to go the College route. He has not signed his rookie deal yet and something tells me he will not play in the QMJHL.
Quebec Remparts: Nathan Gaucher, C, (2022) A- Grade
- The 6-2 176 lb Nathan Gaucher had 18 goals, 15 assists, and 33 points. Gaucher will be draft eligible in 2022 so he will have three years to reach his potential compared to the other prospects who will only have two.
Sherbrooke Phoenix: Cameron Whynot, D, (2021) C Grade
- Cameron Whynot got traded to the Halifax Mooseheads. Therefore this pick gets a C grade.
Sherbrooke Phoenix: Isreal Mianscum, C, (2021) D Grade
- The 6-0 194 lb Isreal Mianscum only had 21 goals, 14 assists, and 35 points. He's someone who projects as a third line center at best just based on their ceiling. He can skate fast. My issue is Mianscum's production is extremely underwhelming for a top 10 pick.
Acadie Bathurst Titan: Riley Kidney, C, (2021) B Grade
- Acadie Bathurst Titan managed to sign Riley Kidney. Kidney is a playmaker center who knows how to get teammates involved and generate assists. Kidney had 19 goals, 28 assists, and 47 points last season. Kidney has the ceiling of a line 2 center in the NHL.
Victoriaville Tigres: Maxime Pellerin, C, (2021) B- Grade
- The 6-0 170 lb Maxime Pellerin is a playmaker just like Riley Kidney. His 42 points in 42 games played make him a solid contributor for Victoriaville as he has the ceiling of a third or second line center in the NHL.
Gatineau Olympiques: Olivier Boutin, D, (2021) A+ Grade
- The 5-9 157 lb Olivier Boutin was a line 1 defender on the Levis Chevaliers QMAAA team playing with top draft pick Joshua Roy. Boutin had 8 goals, 22 assists, and 30 points in 2018-2019. Boutin will have a chance to really show off his work ethic with the Gatineau Olympiques.
- Despite being only 16, Boutin has the speed, explosion, burst, agility, skating, foot speed, playmaking, passing, sniping, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, vision, offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and hockey IQ to succeed in the NHL.
Rimouski Oceanic: Zachary Bolduc, C, (2021) F Grade
- Zachary Bolduc may turn down both QMJHL and USHL deals to remain in High School. Bolduc is expected to play with Mount Saint Charles Academy in Rhode Island this season for High School hockey.
Quebec Remparts: Jacob Melanson, C, (2021) A- Grade
- The 5-11 183 lb Jacob Melanson had 20 goals, 21 assists, and 41 points. Melanson will be draft eligible in 2021. Quebec, like Gatineau did a good job securing two first round draft picks in the QMJHL Draft that could be future first round picks in the NHL Entry Draft.
Acadie Bathurst Titan: Cole Huckins, C, (2021) B Grade
- Acadie Bathurst Titan managed to sign Riley Kidney. Kidney is a playmaker center who knows how to get teammates involved and generate assists. Kidney had 19 goals, 28 assists, and 47 points last season. Kidney has the ceiling of a line 2 center in the NHL.
Cape Breton Screaming Eagles: Jeremy Langlois, D, (2021) F Grade
- The 6-0 165 lb Jeremy Langlois had 0 points in 4 games played in the QMAAA with a -4 +/- ratio. Langlois did sign with Cape Breton, but the fact that he got no points makes him an AHL player at best once he finishes his contract with Cape Breton.
Chicoutimi Sagueneens: Oscar Plandowski, D, (2021) F Grade
- Oscar Plandowski may go straight to the NCAA and may not sign with a QMJHL team. In fact Chicoutimi traded Plandowski to the Charlottetown Islanders. Plandowski has also committed to Quinnipac so if he signs with a QMJHL team he loses his NCAA eligibility rights.
