2022 MLS Mock Draft: Final Mock 4 Rounds
Round 3
Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: January 11, 2021.
Charlotte FC: Alex Nagy, M, Vermont
- Charlotte FC drafted Ousseni Bouda and Tristan Trager for depth at the wing with their first two picks. A left midfielder is needed with them losing McCree. If they take Ben Bender and Trager, they could get two potential starters at left midfielder and the wing using their remaining picks on the best player on the board. I gave Charlotte Bouda since he was the best player on the board.
- The 6-0 165 lb Alex Nagy can play the 8 at central midfielder, the 10 at attacking midfielder, or the 11 at left winger with his versatility. Alex Nagy got Vermont to the America East Championship game where Vermont lost to New Hampshire which is nothing to be ashamed of since New Hampshire was loaded with veterans even after losing Josh Bauer. Alex Nagy started all 20 games for Vermont posting 5 goals, 11 assists, and 21 points in the Fall of 2021.
- Alex Nagy compliments Ousseni Bouda or Ben Bender perfectly if you put Ben Bender at left winger. The scary thing is Charlotte FC has one pick left which they can use to take the best player on their board.
Previous Pick: Akili Kasim, G, Seattle
FC Cincinnati: Alexander Dexter, F, Pittsburgh
- The 5-8 150 lb Alexander Dexter is fast, flashy, athetlic, versatile, and showcases explosive speed while displaying a tremendous burst. He can play left back at the 3, striker at the 9, attacking midfielder at the 10, or left winger at the 11. Dexter could have entered the 2021 MLS Super Draft, but like Jasper Loffelsend he chose to come back for the Spring season hoping to boost his 2022 MLS Draft status.
- Alexander Dexter had 7 goals, 5 assists, and 19 points in the Spring of 2021. He's had 4 goals, 4 assists, and 12 points getting limited minutes this year on an incredible Pitt Panthers soccer team that is stacked. Adding Alexander Dexter as a left winger for depth to start the third round is a fantastic move since he was born in the United States despite playing High School soccer out of the States before enrolling at Pitt.
- This means FC Cincinnati can take someone with International experience, but at the same time it won't count against an International roster slot on their team due to Dexter being born in the United States.
Previous Pick: Storm Strongin, M, Hofstra
Toronto F.C.: Jacob Jackson, G, Loyola Marymount
- The 6-2 205 lb Jacob Jackson would be an ideal goalie to groom to replace your thirty five year old backup goalie to Alex Bono, Toronto's 2015 first round pick. The 21-year-old Loyola Marymount goalie Jacob Jackson went 11-4-2 in the Fall of 2021 with 50 saves, a 0.67 goals against average, a .806 save percentage, and 8 shutouts leading up to the 2022 MLS Super Draft. He's the ideal goalie for Toronto F.C. to draft and develop for the future here in the third round.
Previous Pick: Knut Ahlander, M, SMU
Los Angeles Galaxy: Eliot Hamill, G, Duke
- The Los Angeles Galaxy only have one goalie on their active roster. The 21-year-old Duke goaie Eliot Hamil would be a backup goalie makes a lot of sense at this point the third round since the Galaxy only have one goalie on their teams active roster.
- The 6-2 175 lb Eliot Hamill had 6 shutouts in the Fall of 2021. Hamil makes sense here since he's the best American keeper left on the board despite being a 1 at goalie. I'd be open to my Galaxy taking Will Meyer out of Akron as well if he's still on the board here since his tape looks better than Hamil's, but he's 23, two years older than Hamil, who competed in the 2021 MLS College Showcase. That's why Hamil got a slight edge over Meyer.
Previous Pick: Victor Oladipo, M, Bob Jones
Austin FC: Kendall Burks, D, Washington
- The 6-2 190 lb Kendall Burks finally got more minutes this season with Washington helping the Washington Huskies record 2 goals, 3 assists, 7 points, and 11 shutouts while playing over 1,900 minutes showcasing incredible drive. Kendall Burks may have second round tape, but he's got first round stamina despite playing the 4 at center back. He's a steal at thsi point in the third round.
Previous Pick: Gio Miglietti, F, Washington
F.C. Dallas: Gio Miglietti, F, Washington
- The 6-0 185 lb Gio Migiletti is the striker on the Washington Huskies. He's a forward that can play the 9 at striker. Gio Miglietti had 6 goals, 2 assists, and 14 points in the Fall of 2021. He gives F.C. Dallas a forward for depth here.
Previous Pick: Clayton Torr, D, Cal State Fullerton
Chicago Fire F.C.: Delasi Baste, D, Charlotte
- The 6-2 175 lb Delasi Batse played 88 minutes or more in every single one of Charlotte's games this season. Sure Charlotte may have only recored four shutouts, but this natural 4 at center back can also play the 5 as a sweeper. You could argue that Delasi Baste has the most stamina among a defenseman n the entire 2022 MLS Super Draft with him playing 88 minutes or more in every single one of his games at Charlotte during his senior season.
Previous Pick: Ben Barkley, M, Tulsa
San Jose Earthquakes: Jojea Kwizera, M, Utah Valley
- San Jose gets Jojea Kwizera as a midfielder for depth here. Kwizera is one of the best value picks on the board if he makes it to the third round since he can play the 8 at central midfielder or the 10 at attacking midfielder.
- The 5-9 165 lb Jojea Kwizera had 3 goals, 8 assists, and 14 points in the Spring of 2021. He improved on that with 5 goals, 11 assists, and 21 points in the Fall of 2021. Utah Valley's head coach Greg Maas praised Kwizera just as much as he praised former Utah Valley center back Ahmed Longmire.
Previous Pick: Oladayo Thomas, F, Santa Clara
Inter Miami C.F.: Chandler Vaughn, D, Saint Louis
- Inter Miami C.F. drafts a left back that can play the 3 for depth in the third round. The 5-9 147 lb Chandler Vaughn is a former Pitt Panthers left back that transferred to Saint Louis by choice He's someone Inter Miami C.F. could take a god hard look at to see if there is a fit here.
Previous Pick: Billy Hency, M, Loyola
F.C. Dallas: A.J. Palazzolo, M, Saint Louis
- The 6-1 160 lb A.J. Palazzolo is a natural 6 at defensive midfielder. A.J. Palazzolo helped Saint Louis get 3 goals, 1 assist, 7 points, and helped the Saint Louis Billikens record 8 shutouts in the Fall of 2021. A.J. Palazzolo also played at Indiana starting 44 games even being the captain of the Indiana Hoosiers at one point before transferring to Saint Louis. His leadership traits will make a team fall in love with him.
Previous Pick: atrick Agyemang, F, Rhode Island
CF Montreal: Nathan Dossantos, D, Marshall
- The 5-11 175 lb center back on Marshall can play the 4 or the 5 as a sweeper. Montreal could use a center back and with Nathan Dossantos being a native from Canada, CF Montreal can take him without wasting an International roster slot. Nathan Dossantos helped Marshall record 9 shutouts in the Fall of 2021.
Previous Pick: Patrick Agyemang, F, Rhode Island
Columbus Crew: Luka Gavran, G, St. John's
- Columbus grabs a goalie to groom for the future in the third round. Luka Gavran beat out former Two Time Big East goalie of the year Giannis Nikopolids for goalie of the year in the Fall of 2021.
- The 6-6 200 lb Luka Gavran is a natural 1 at goalie. Luka Gavran 11-6-3 with 65 saves, a 0.57 goals against average, an .844 save percentage, and 12 shutouts in the Fall of 2021. Columbus can gamble on Luka Gavran by hoping to develop him for the future while their older goalies play their contracts out.
Previous Pick: Brandon Knapp, M, St. John's
D.C. United: Ben Reveno, D, UCLA
- D.C. United lost their left back to the 2021 Expansion Draft. Ben Reveno can play the 2 at right back, the 3 at right back, the 4 at center back, or the 5 at center back as a sweeper with his versatility
- The 6-1 170 lb Ben Reveno isn't as athletic or as dominant as his teammate Ahemd Longmire. He makes up for this by being more durable than Longmire, plus he fills a left back void for D.C. United here in the third round.
Previous Pick: Rooks Hunter, D, Tulsa
Los Angeles Galaxy: Luis Feipe Fernandez-Salvador, M, Clemson
- The Los Angeles Galaxy draft the best player on the board in the third round with their final pick. Luis Felipe Fernandez-Salvador is a really good prospect and some will argue he should go a lot higher than this.
- The 5-10 165 lb Luis Feipe Fernandez-Salvador had 8 goals, 5 points, and 21 points in the Fall of 2021. He's a good addition to a team like the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Previous Pick: Chase Niece, D, Saint Louis
New York Red Bulls: Christopher Lima, D, California
- New York gets a left back for depth. Christopher Lima from California is an under the radar left back that plays the 3 effectively that you can get later in this draft.
- The San Jose Earthquakes Academy player didn't sign with San Jose. I don't blame the Earthquakes though even though they are thin at left back since the California Golden Bears backline only had 1 shutout against Dixie State this fall. At the same time, Christopher Grey's consistency as a soccer player speaks for itself.
- The 5-8 150 lb left back played 90 minutes or more in every single game for the California Golden Bears except one against Stanford where Stanford crushed their PAC 12 rival 5-0. That kind of consistency that Grey brings speaks for itself. Maybe he's just a depth player in the MLS, but he deserves a spot somewhere in the first three rounds of this mock since most of the players in College Soccer on good teams haven't played that may minutes.
- Christopher Grey had 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 points, and helped California get only one shutout against Dixie State. You cannot look at that, you have to look at the number of minutes Grey played. Also, Grey's only goal came against Stanford in a 1-1 draw to end the year.
Previous Pick: Grant Glorioso, G, Robert Morris
Vancouver Whitecaps: Tani Oluwaseyi, F, St. John's
- The 6-2 170 lb Tani Olwaseyi is versatile enough to play the 7 at right winger, the 9 at striker, or the 11 at left winger. He's generating a lot of first round buzz from the mainstream media despite only playing 2 gamaes and having 0 starts this Fall. His speed, versatility, and leadership as a team captain at St. John's is the biggest reason why some having him go as early in the first round.
- I do agree with the mainstream media about one thing involving Tani Oluwaseyi. He wlll probably end up being taken by a Canadian Team after having 10 career game-winning goals for St. John's.
Previous Pick: Malcolm Duncan, D, Providence
New York Red Bulls: Will Meyer, G, Akron
- The 6-2 174 lb Will Meyer is another guy that's generating a lot of first round buzz from the MLS Scouting Community. Most of his six shutouts came against weaker opponents this season. While the 23-year-old goalie impressed me on tape with his reflexes and coordination, his room for development is smaller than every other goalie in the 2022 MLS Super Draft due to his age.
- The New York Red Bulls need a goalie to groom for the future. Will Meyer could be the guy down the road, but he's gonna need a lot of developement and you may only be getting a backup goalie at best at .
Previous Pick: A.J. Palazzolo, M, Saint Louis
Orlando City S.C.: Quinn McNeil, M, Clemson
- Orlando City S.C. gets a player that is versatile enough to play the 6 at defensive midfielder or the 8 at central midfielder. Quinn McNeil is one of the better prospects on Clemson..
- The 5-10 160 lb Quinn McNeil had 4 goals, 4 assists, and 12 points in the Fall of 2021. Quinn McNeil is another top prospect on this years National Champions Clemson.
Previous Pick: Robert Screen, D, Kentucky
Atlanta United F.C.: Ben Giacobello, M, Notre Dame
- Atlanta United F.C. drafts a natural 2 at right back. Ben Giacobello is versatile enough to play the 2 at right back or the 6 at defensive midfielder. With Mohamed Omar playing defensive midfielder at Notre Dame, Ben Giacobello was the right back on the Fighting Irish.
- The 5-9 145 lb Ben Giacobello is a player that could provide Atlanta United F.C. some depth at right back after being part of a team helped Notre Dame record 13 shutouts in the Fall of 2021.
Previous Pick: Ben Giacobello, M, Notre Dame
Seattle Sounders: Holland Rula, D, Wake Forest
- The 5-11 175 lb Holland Rula is versatile enough to play the 2 at right back and the 3 at left back. It's hard to believe that Holland Rula is the best prospect on Wake Forest not named Kyle Holcolmb. Holland Rula gives the Seattle Sounders a fullback for depth witht his pick.
Previous Pick: David Garcia, D, Florida International
Nashville S.C.: Pedro Fonseca, F, Louisville
- The 5-8 165 lb Pedro Fonseca is one of of the oldest players in the 2022 MLS Super Draft. He's already 24-years-old and he turns 25 in May. Also he's going to require a team with an International slot to draft him. His age and International status is why he fell to Nashville S.C. in the third round, but he's too talented to go undrafted.
- Pedro Fonseca can play the 8 at central midfielder, 9 at striker, 10 at attacking midfielder, or 11 at left winger with his versatility. Pedro Fonseca had 4 goals, 4 assists, and 12 points in the Spring of 2021. Fonseca had 8 goals, 8 assists, and 24 points so far in the Fall of 2021.
Sporting Kansas City: Chris Donovan, F, Drexel
- The 6-1 160 lb Chris Donovan has been an impact player with the Drexel Dragons ever since he stepped on campus. Chris Donovan had 3 goals, 3 assists, and 9 points as true freshman in 2018. Chris Donovan had 7 goals, 2 assists, and 16 points as a sophomore in 2019. Chris Donovan had 8 goals, 6 assists, and 22 points as a junior in the Spring of 2021. Chris Donovan had 12 goals, 2 assists, and 26 points as a senior in the Fall of 2021. Sporting Kansas City adds Chris Donovan as a 9 for depth at striker.
Previous Pick: Alejandro Perez, D, Santa Clara
Colorado Rapids: Milo Yosef, F, Marshall
- The 6-2 183 lb Milo Yosef had 12 goals, 3 assists, and 24 points as a freshman redshirt in 2019. Yosef had 4 goals, 4 assists, and 12 points in the Spring of 2021. He led the Marshall Thundering Herd with 61 shots. Yosef had an assist against North Carolina in the Semifinals of the College Cup before being part of a Marshall team that defeated Indiana to help Marshall win the 2020 Mens College Soccer Championship. Milo Yosef has 3 goals, 7 assists, and 13 points in the Fall of 2021.
- Colorado is a team with the luxury of taking one more International player. Milo Yosef beat out 2021 third round pick Jamil Roberts for the 9 spot at striker on a Marshall team that won it all in 2020 making Yosef a natural 9 at striker.
New England Revoultion: Mark Ybarra, M, Michigan
- The 6-1 180 lb Mark Ybarra can play the 6 at defensive midfielder, the 8 at central midfielder, or the 10 at attacking midfielder. Mark Ybarra also holds the Michigan Wolverines Men's Soccer records for 91 games played, 90 games started, and 7,665 minutes on the pitch. Mark Ybarra is also second on the Wolverines with 24 All Time assists. Mark Ybarra is a good addition for a New England Revolution team that could use more midfielder depth.
Previous Pick: Declan McGlynn, F, Seattle
Real Salt Lake: Tola Showunmi, F, New Hampshire
- The 6-3 182 lb Tola Showunmi had 10 goals, 3 assists, and 23 points in the Fall of 2021. The New Hampshire striker will require an International roster slot. Real Salt Lake has three International roster slots available so they can use this draft to draft players overseas.
Previous Pick: Tyrone Mondi, M, Oregon State
Philadelphia Union: Carlo Ritaccio, D, Akron
- The 6-1 172 lb Carlo Ritaccio has had three strong seasons with Akron making him a natural 4 at center back. Ritaccio got named freshman of the year in 2018 when Akron got to the Championship game only to lose to Maryland. He did well enough in 2019 to earn an invite to the MLS College Showcase event as a sophomore. He played in the 2020 MLS Combine All Star game because Akron's Fall season got cancelled due to Covid-19 before Ritaccio made up for that in the Spring of 2021. Carlo Ritaccio has played in 11 games, but only started 5 this year. I'm not sure if he got injured or benched, but that's part of the reason why Carlo Ritaccio dropped from a first round prospect to a third round prospect. Philaelphia could use a domestic player like Carlo Ritaccio for depth here.
Previous Pick: Joel Walker, M, Oregon State
Portland Timbers: Pierre Reedy, M, Penn State
- Portland has to use one of their three draft picks on a midifelder. Diego Valeri the captain of the Portland Timbers retired.
- Pierre Reedy missed his first two seasons at Penn State due to injuries. The captain of the Penn State Nittany Lions has been durable ever since showing the versatility to play the 6 at defensive midfielder, the 7 at right winger, the 8 at central midfielder, and the 10 at attacking midfielder. Reedy is a versatile player with great leadership who can blend into any role. He's not Diego Valeri, but his skill set and traits as a two year captain are similar to Valeri.
- The 6-0 160 lb Pierre Reedy is from Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Pierre Reedy ha 5 goals, 4 assists, and 14 points in the Spring of 2021. Pierre Reedy had 3 goals, 4 assists, and 10 points in the Fall of 2021 while leading Penn State to a Big 10 Championship.
New York City F.C.: Mason Visconti, D, Kentucky
- New York City F.C. grabs a left back that's a natural fit at the 3. Kentucky had two fullbacks in left back Mason Visconti and right back Robert Screen that deserve to get drafted. Unfortunately, Visconti is the only one of these two that made the 176 player list for eligible prospects in the 2022 MLS Super Draft. That's the biggest reason why I took so many names out of this mock in the second and third round.
- The 6-0 155 lb Mason Visconti is a natural fit to play left back at the 3. Mason Visconti got 5 assists and helped Kentucky get 9 shutouts in 17 of the games where Visconti started.
Previous Pick: Diogo Pacheco, M, Akron
Other 2022 MLS Mock Drafts
