Pierre-Luc Dubois: The Best 2016 NHL Prospect In The QMJHL

My name is Carmack Lloyd and I'll be covering CHL content in different leagues like the OHL, QMJHL, or WHL for the NHL Draft at Draft Utopia. In my first piece I compared Jakob Chychrun and Sean Day. Today I'm going to explain why Pierre-Luc Dubois is the best prospect in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Heading into the season Julian Gauthier of the Val'd'Or Foreurs was considered the top QMJHL prospect. Gauthier did receive an A grade from NHL scouts and he should go in the first round when you consider that Sean Day received a B grade, yet is still the unanimous #2 defenseman in the 2016 NHL Draft after Chychrun.
Pierre-Luc Dubois also received an A grade in addition to Gauthier and for good reason. The fifth overall pick in the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft who played junior hockey for the Notre Dame Albatros prior to joining the QMJHL has been tearing it up since joining Cape Breton.
Pierre-Luc Dubois weighed 6-1 181 lbs as a rookie. Piere-Luc Dubois showed some ability as a line 2 left winger and even got to be the line 1 center on Cape Breton's power play in 2014-2015. That year he posted 10 goals, 35 assists, and 45 points in 54 games.
Pierre-Luc Dubois grew an inch and added nearly 25 lbs of muscle during the offseason. He also showed the versatility to play right wing. Now the Screaming Eagles forward can play anywhere on offense at left wing, center, or right wing plus he weighs 6-3 205 lbs.
Pierre-Luc Dubois ranks 25th in the QMJHL in points with 9 goals, 12 assists, and 21 points in 19 games since beginning the 2015-2016 season as the Screaming Eagles line 1 center. Pierre-Luc Dubois could go as high as seventh overall and will fall no farther than nineteenth barring injury. The Detroit Red Wings took Pierre'LUc Dubois's linemate Evgeni Svechnikov nineteenth overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Julian Gauthier and Pierre-Luc Dubois may need one more year of development in the QMJHL following the 2016 NHL Draft. Both skaters look like line 1 forwards in the NHL. You could also make the case that both forwards deserve to go ahead of Sean Day with their stellar play this season. Gauthier and Pierre-Luc Dubois are the only QMJHL players from the 2016 NHL Draft playing in the Canada VS Russia series. It will be interesting to see if either player can boost their stock.
All I will say is for Cape Breton fans to cherish the glory days of Svechnikov and Pierre-Luc Dubois right now in 2015. Both players will probably be on NHL rosters by 2017.
I may have more updates on Cape Breton Screaming Eagles players at some point in the near future. For now read up on the emerging Pierre-Luc Dubois.
