Jake DeBrusk A Future Boston Bruin In The Making

Jake DeBrusk was a 2015 first round pick drafted 14th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft due to a career season with 81 points in his draft year. After failing to make the Boston Bruins, he returned to his WHL team the Swift Current Broncos.
Swift Current traded him to the Red Deer Rebels. The Red Deer Rebels hosted the 2016 Memorial Cup and Jake DeBrusk led Red Deer to the Semifinals in the 2016 Memorial Cup.
DeBrusk's 17 points in 17 Playoff games with the Red Deer Rebels earned him a spot on the Providence Bruins in the AHL. DeBrusk had 19 goals, 30 assists, and 49 points in 74 AHL Regular Season games in his first semi pro season with the Providence Bruins.
DeBrusk went from playmaker in the WHL to sniper in the AHL with 6 goals, 3 assists, and 9 points in 17 AHL games where he took Providence to the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals in the AHL before Providence was eliminated by the 2017 Eastern Conference Champion Syracuse Crunch.
Jake DeBrusk will return to Providence in 2017-2018. DeBrusk has two goals. One play well enough to finally get called up to the NHL to earn a spot on the Boston Bruins. The second goal would be to lead the Providence Bruins to the 2018 Memorial Cup if he does not get called up to the NHL next season.
It will be interesting to see what happens with DeBrusk next season. The 2015 first round pick needs to take a huge next step to avoid a bust label. Luckily for DeBrusk he's only 20-years-old and still has a chance to grow and develop with two years left on his rookie deal before he requests a 1-way contract to the Boston Bruins.
