Royals Trade For Johnny Cueto

On Sunday, the Kansas City Royals traded 3 pitching prospects to the Cincinnati Reds for ace pitcher Johnny Cueto. Those three players were Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb, and Cody Redd. Kansas City got the better end of this deal for Cueto who will provide an immediate short term asset.
So far in 2015, Cueto has a 2.62 ERA with 130.2 innings pitched with the Cincinnati Reds in 2015. Cueto's 7-6 is impressive when you consider how lackluster this batting lineup is outside of Todd Frazier and Joey Votto.
The Royals have a much stronger batting lineup and have 7 batters that made the All Star Game. Cueto should win another 7 games and I expect him to lose down the stretch with these batters.
Finnegan, Lamb, and Redd were the three pitchers the Reds got for Cueto. Finnegan was a 2014 first round pick out of TCU is probably the best player the Reds got in this trade because he was relief pitcher right away as a rookie. Cincinnati is getting a guy that can be either a long reliever or a middle reliever in Finnegan. Lamb was one of the top minor league pitchers in AA back in 2011 before Tommy John's Surgery. Lamb has recovered and is on the brink of being promoted to AAA. Redd may be a AA prospect at best, but he still provides good value.
This was an excellent trade for the Royals that frames Kansas City as a World Series contender. The only significant player that the Royals gave up in terms of prospects had to be Brandon Finnegan. I think it was well worth it for the Royals to deal these players to the Reds for Johnny Cueto as Cueto gives Kansas City another chance to win the Fall Classic in 2015 after losing Game 7 of the 2014 World Series at home.
