2022 NHL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds
Round 7
Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: July 7, 2022.
Montreal Canadiens: James Fisher, LW, Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)
- The 6-2 194 lb James Fisher will join the Youngstown Phantoms after being drafted ninth overall in the 2022 USHL Draft. I got grades for the 2022 USHL Draft in our 2022 USHL Draft Results page, but I ended up posting the futures draft grades instead.
- James Fisher had 17 goals, 11 assists, and 28 points in 27 games at Belmont High School. This sniper has a hockey scholarship to Northeastern and will join Northeastern in 2023-2024. Montreal doesn't have to sign James Fisher until 2027.
San Jose Sharks: James Stefan, RW, Portland Winterhawks (WHL)
- The 5-11 181 lb James Stefan is the son of former NHL draft bust and Atlanta Thrashers first overall pick Patrik Stefan. James Stefan got passed over in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, but could be a late round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
- James Stefan had 34 goals, 45 assists, 79 points, and a +29 +/- ratio in 62 WHL regular season games in 2021-2022. James Stefan had 3 goals, 3 assists, and 6 points in 11 games during the 2022 WHL Playoffs.
Seattle Kraken: George Fegaras, D, North York Rangers (OJHL)
- The 6-2 185 lb George Fegaras had 13 goals, 35 assists, and 48 points in 52 OJHL games. George Fegaras also has a hockey scholarship to Cornell.
Philadelphia Flyers: Arseni Koromyslov, D, SKA Saint Petersburg (KHL)
- The 6-3 180 lb Arseni Kormyslov is a project defenseman that hasn't made the KHL yet. He had 4 goals, 15 assists, and 19 points in 42 MHL games. He's also played in the VHL and even played 6 KHL games where he produced 0 points in the KHL.
- This guy defends the rush well. He skates well when playing defense, but needs to show more burst while refining his shot. `He's a project, but Philadelphia needs prospects. I mocked him in the fourth round last time, and he fell to the seventh round. Philadelphia is clearly getting a steal here.
New Jersey Devils: Aaron Pionk, D, Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL)
- The 6-1 165 lb Aaron Pionk is the younger brother of Winnipeg Jets first line defenseman Neal Pionk. Aaron Pionk was passed on in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
- Aaron Pionk had 9 goals, 19 assists, 28 assists, 14 penalty minutes, and a +14 +/- ratio in 51 regular season games with the Minnesota Wilderness. He struggled to produce any points in the playoffs though.
Chicago Blackhawks: Frederic Brunet, D, Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL)
- The 6-2 176 lb Frederic Brunet got passed over in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He's a good value pick for a team like the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh round since Frederic Brunet was a first line defenseman on the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL this past season.
- Frederic Brunet had 12 goals, 36 assists, 48 points, and a +1 +/- ratio in 63 regular season games with the Rimouski Oceanic. He had 3 assists in 9 games of the 2022 QMJHL Playoffs matching his assist total from the 2021 QMJHL Playoffs in 8 games.
Boston Bruins: Croix Kochendorfer, G, Chippewa Steel (NAHL)
- The 6-4 220 lb Croix Kochendorfer had a 2.79 goals against average and .908 save percentage in 38 starts with the Chippewa Steel. He went 16-16-2 with 1 shutout during the regular season. If a goalie in the 2022 NHL Draft ends up becoming the next Hendrik Lunqvist going from a seventh round goalie to an All Star caliber goalie the guy to keep an eye on is Croix Kochendorfer. He dominated the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Pittsburgh this year too. My gut is telling me this guy will be one of the biggest steals in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, and my gut is rarely wrong.
Detroit Red Wings: Simon Wolf, G, EHC Munchen (DEL)
- The 6-2 192 lb Simon Wolf is someone who could end up starting at goalie on the Grand Rapids Griffins down the road in the AHL once Sebastian Cossa and Jan Bednar are in the NHL. Detroit can gamble on this project goalie in the seventh round since he'd give Jan Bednar someone else gunning for his job as the backup goalie to Cossa once Cossa develops.
Buffalo Sabres: Michael Callow, RW, St. Sebastian's HS (MA)
- The 6-4 194 lb Michael Callow had 26 goals, 15 assists, and 41 points in 25 games with St. Sebastian's High School. He's got a hockey scholarship to Harvard too beginning this Fall.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Amadeus Lombardi, C, Flint Firebirds (OHL)
- The 5-10 165 lb Amadeus Lombardi had 18 goals, 41 assists, and 59 points in 67 OHL regular season games. Amadeus Lombardi had 7 goals, 8 assists, and 15 points in 19 games during the 2022 OHL Playoffs. Amadeus Lombardi was picked in the thirteenth round of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection and he was a key piece on the Flint Firebirds as a rookie this year.
San Jose Sharks: Braden Holt, G, Everett Silvertips (WHL)
- The 6-1 161 lb Braden Holt could be a diamond in the rough type of goalie prospect later in the draft. San Jose already has two goalies in their prospect pool including the Denver Pioneers starting goalie Magnus Chrona and 2021 third round pick Benjamin Gaudreau who I had a first round grade on a year ago. Braden Holt hopes to continue a tradition of Everett Silvertips goalies to get drafted in the NHL Draft after Carter Hart got drafted in 2016 before Dustin Wolf got drafted in 2019.
Carolina Hurricanes: Mikey Milne, LW, Winnipeg Ice (WHL)
- The 5-10 185 lb Mikey Milne finally broke out for the Winnipeg Ice after going undrafted in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Mikey Milne had 38 goals, 43 assists, 81 points, and a +56 +/- ratio in 2021-2022 in 68 WHL regular season games. Mikey Milne had 13 goals, 6 assists, and 19 points in 15 games during the 2022 WHL Playoffs. He's a good seventh round prospect that Carolina can add here.
Ottawa Senators: David Gucciardi D, Michigan State
- The 6-1 190 lb David Gucciardi had 5 goals, 6 assists, and 11 points as a true freshman at Michigan State. He can do a lot more moving fowrward though.
Winnipeg Jets: James Hardie, LW, Mississauga Steelheads (OHL)
- The 6-0 183 lb James Hardie was a first round pick in the 2018 OHL Draft. James Hardie went undrafted in both the 2020 and 2021 NHL Drafts, but could be a late round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
- James Hardie had 41 goals, 36 assists, 77 points, and a +14 +/- ratio in 68 regular season games in the OHL. James Hardie had 6 goals, 2 assists, and 8 points in 10 games during the 2022 OHL Playoffs.
Vancouver Canucks: Graham Sward, D, Spokane Chiefs (WHL)
- Vancouver gets another defenseman in the seventh round. Graham Sward is a nice offensive defenseman here.
- The 6-2 180 lb Graham Sward had 10 goals, 33 assists, 43 points, and a -17 +/- ratio in 57 regular season games. Scouts believe he's a shutdown blue liner and defensive defenseman despite his awful +/- ratio, so potential to be a two-way defenseman is there.
- The Spokane Chiefs 2018 first round pick in the 2018 WHL Draft won the John "Hitman" Hern Defenseman of the Year Award in the WHL. Graham Sward can be a defenseman that Vancouver develops for the future here.
Vegas Golden Knights: Nikita Grebenkin, RW, Metallurg Magnitogorsk (KHL)
- The Vegas Golden Knights draft another right winger in the seventh round. The 6-2 176 lb Nikita Grebenkin was team captain for Metallurg Magnitogorsk's Under 17 Team in 2019-2020.
- Nikita Grebenkin got promoted to the MHL the following year in 2021-2021 with 12 goals, 22 assists, and 34 points. He improved on that this past season with 17 goals, 47 assists, and 64 points in the MHL getting promoted to alternate captain before getting one game of experience in the KHL.
- Nikita Grebenkin gives Vegas a second right winger prospect, which is something the Golden Knights will need after losing Reilly Smith to Free Agency and Dadonov to Montreal.
Nashville Predators: Dennis Hildeby, G, Farjestads BK (Elitserien)
- Nashville drafts a backup goalie to Yaroslav Askarov their 2020 first round pick whose set to begin the next phase of his development in the AHL while Jusse Saros and Connor Ingram return as the starter and backup on the Nashville Predators. Dennis Hildeby is a good addition here as he went undrafted in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
- The 6-6 234 lb Dennis Hildeby had a 1.93 goals against average and a .931 save percentage in 7 starts in the SHL formerly known as Elitserien. Dennis Hildeby is a steal this late in the seventh round as his goaltending helped Farjestads BK win the league championship in the SHL. He's got an outstanding butterfly with outstanding mechanics. One scouting service has him as the top goalie in the entire 2022 NHL Draft despite the fact that he's 20-years-old.
Buffalo Sabres: Domenic DiVincentiis, G, North Bay Battalion (OHL)
- Buffalo drafts a goalie with the seventh round pick they got from the Dallas Stars in the trade where Buffalo had to take on Ben Bishop's contract. Domenic DiVincentiis is a great addition for Buffalo here.
- The 6-2 183 lb Domenic DiVincentiis had a 2.59 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in 27 starts with the North Bay Battalion. One scouting service has him as the top goalie in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Detroit Red Wings: Patrik Gabriel, C, Saimaan Pallo (SM Liiga)
- The 6-0 176 Patrik Gabriel dominated on Saimaan Pallo's Under 18 Team. He did pretty well on Saimann Pallo's Under 20 Team as well, but he hasn't even made it to Liiga yet. Detroit gambles on this project center hoping he can crack a top 4 line, but expecting either a first or second line center on the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. Patrik Gabriel was a guy that I had a third round grade on back in October, so this is tremendous value for Gabriel in the seventh round.
Washington Capitals: Ilya Kvochko, C, Metallurg Magnitogorsk (KHL)
- The 5-9 159 lb Ilya Kvochko is undersized. He plays like a first to second round pick that can be a playmaker who defends well despite his size. He also plays with a lot of heart despite not having any KHL expereince yet as he's a first line center in the MHL at the moment.
- Ilya Kvochko had 9 goals, 19 assists, and 28 points in the MHL in 2020-2021. He already played his opening game of the year in the MHL for 2021-2022, but has 0 points to show for it at the moment. He also finished the season with 0 points in the KHL despite being a second round prospect in October. Washington can gamble on him in the seventh round, expecting an AHL player on the Hershey Bears at best in their prospect pool.
Pittsburgh Penguins: Roman Kechter, LW, Rogle BK (Elitserien)
- The 5-11 172 lb Roman Kechter had 2 assists with the Numberg Ice Tigers in DEL last season. He was huge for Germany at the Hlinka Gretzky Invitational this summer helping Germany beat Sweden. Now, Roman Kechter will play in Sweden's SHL league formerly known as Elitserien for Rogle BK.
- Roman Kechter began the season as a second round prospect based on potential back in October. He's now a late seventh round pick since he never made the jump to the SHL playing on Rogle BK's Under 18 and Under 20 Teams in Sweden.
Boston Bruins: Tyson Jugnauth, D, West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL)
- The 5-11 155 Tyson Jugnauth had 9 goals, 41 assists, and 50 points with the West Kelowna Warriors in the BCHL winning BCHL defenseman of the year this past season. Tyson Jugnauth also had 5 assists in the 2022 BCHL Playoffs. He's got a hockey scholarship to Wisconsin where he'll be joining Boston Buckberger, who I mocked to the Bruins in the sixth round.
Montreal Canadiens: David Moravec, D, BK Mlada Boleslav (Extraliga)
- The 6-0 190 lb David Moravec had 4 assists in 40 Extraliga games with BK Mlada Boleslav. He's a great final selection for the Montreal Canadiens in this draft.
San Jose Sharks: Theo Wallberg, D, Skelleftea AIK (Elitserien)
- The 6-4 187 lb Theo Wallberg had 2 goals, 21 assists, and 23 points with the Skelleftea AIK Under 20 Team. He'll join the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL next year before enrolling at Ohio State in 2023 on a hockey scholarship. San Jose can gamble on his traits and wouldn't have to sign him to an entry level contract until 2027.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Pierre Olivier-Roy, D, Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
- The Toronto Maple Leafs draft a defenseman here with this final pick. Pierre Olivier-Roy was a first round pick in the 2020 QMJHL Draft.
- The 5-10 172 lb Pierre Olivier-Roy had 5 goals, 21 assists, and 26 points as an alternate captain with the Victoriaville Tigres. His leadership is his best trait as a defenseman.
Calgary Flames: Jakub Hujer, LW, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL)
- The 6-3 190 lb Jakub Hujer was drafted ninteenth overall in the 2021 CHL Import Draft. He showcased the versatility to play left wing, center, and right wing in his first QMJHL season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies lining up in different spots on the fourth line.
- Jakub Hujer had 9 goals, 15 assists, 24 points, and a -20 +/- ratio in 49 regular season games in the QMJHL. He had 0 points in 3 playoff games in the 2022 QMJHL Playoffs.
- Jakub Hujer has the passing, playmaking, wrist shot power, wrist shot accuracy, slap shot power, slap shot accuracy, power play ability, and ability to be a good penalty killer. This is a nice player for Calgary to develop in the seventh round.
Carolina Hurricanes: Alex Bump, LW, Omaha Lancers (USHL)
- The 6-0 194 lb Alex Bump had 48 goals, 35 assists, and 83 points as the team captain of Prior Lake High School. He was so dominant at Prior Lake, that the 2021 sixth round pick by the Omaha Lancers in the 2021 USHL Draft got summoned to the USHL. Alex Bump had 11 goals, 6 assists, and 17 points with the Omaha Lancers in 27 USHL games.
- Alex Bump has one more year of USHL eligiblity. He has a hockey scholarship to Vermont starting in 2023.
Florida Panthers: Kasper Lundell, C, Helsingfors IFK (SM Liiga)
- The 5-11 174 lb Kasper Lundell is the younger brother of Florida Panthers 2020 first round pick Anton Lundell whose the son of Jan Lundell. In fact, Kasper Lundell was team captain of Helsingors IFK's Under 16 Team in 2019-2020 when Anton Lundell was on Helsingofrs IFK's main roster preparing for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
- Kasper Lundell had 8 goals, 18 assists, and 26 points on Helsingfors IFK's Under 20 Team. Kasper Lundell will play on Helsingfors IFK's main roster in SM Liiga next season.
Edmonton Oilers: Sergei Murashov, G, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (KHL)
- The 6-0 157 lb Sergei Murashov had a 2.49 goals against average and a .927 save percentage in 41 MHL starts. He still hasn't made Lokomotiv Yarslavl's KHL team though. Edmonton needs to draft a goalie at some point, so they use their final pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft to select a goalie here.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Cameron O'Neill, RW, Tri-City Storm (USHL)
- The 6-1 194 lb Cameron O'Neill absolutely balled out at the Mount St. Charles Under 18 AAA Academy this season with 57 goals, 76 assists, and 133 points. The Tri-City Storm's 2021 eighth round pick in the 2021 USHL Draft was so dominant that he earned a promotion to the Tri-City Storm where he had 1 goal, 1 assist, and 2 points in 4 USHL games.
- Cameron O'Neill will be back with the Tri-City Storm in 2022-2023. Then he goes to UMass and Tampa Bay won't have to sign him to his rookie contract until 2027.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Zach Bookman, D, Brooks Bandits (AJHL)
- The 5-10 175 lb Zach Bookman had 21 goals, 81 assists, and 102 points in 55 AJHL games. He anchored the blue line and was a team captain on the Brooks Bandits just like Cale Makar and Corson Ceulemans. Tampa Bay drafts Bookman for the future.
Colorado Avalanche: Samuel Savoie, C, Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL)
- The 5-10 189 lb Samuel Savoie was considered the top center in the 2020 QMJHL Draft. The Gatineau Olympiques landed the top defenseman, winger, and center with three of the first four picks in that draft.
- Samuel Savoie had 18 goals, 15 assists, 33 points, and a +4 +/- ratio in 64 regular season games with the Gatineau Olympiques. He also had 1 goal in 7 games during the 2022 QMJHL Playoffs after having 1 goal and 1 assist in 4 games during the 2021 QMJHL Playoffs. Samuel Savoie is a perfect replacement for Darren Helm with the Mr. Irrelevant pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
