Joshua Avery Scouting Report

The 6-0 170 lb Joshua Avery was the Brantford Bulldogs third round pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. He only posted 1 goal, 3 assists, and 4 points in 7 games a rookie being eased in. This season he has 9 goals, 12 assists, and 21 points in 53 games starting out as a center on the back 6 while also gaining some experience on the wing at right winger. The Brantford Bulldogs scouts and coaches praised him for his hockey sense, hockey IQ, and decision making. He was also East Division Academic Player of the month in the month of February in the OHL. One scout referred to him as just a checker, but I believe he brings far more to the table as the shooting power and shooting accuracy to be a sniper is there along with the playmaking as a passer. He did well enough to earn a promotion to second line right winger by the start of the 2025 OHL Playoffs showing he has potential to develop into a top 6 forward despite being a project. Joshua Avery ranks 141 on NHL Central Scouting for North American skaters. The floor for Joshua Avery in terms of player comparisons is Nick Paul the current third line center on the Tampa Bay Lightning who was a 2013 fourth round pick by the Dallas Stars. I believe his ceiling is that of a fifth round pick that was a massive steal in previous NHL Drafts such as Jamie Benn or Kirill Kaprizov.

Arthur Kaliyev had 31 goals, 17 assists, and 48 points in 2017-2018 on the third line as a rookie. Kaliyev got promoted to the second line and has 24 goals, 28 assists, and 52 points so far in 2018. He can play left wing, center, and right wing. He's gifted as a mother offensively, but needs to improve by leaps and bounds defensively.
