Jason Bantle's 2017 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 3 Rounds
Round 3
Jason Bantle follow @jasonwbantle Last Updated: April 26, 2017.
Cleveland Browns: Evan Engram, TE, Ole Miss
- Evan Engram is a tight end with first to second round ability. I've seen O.J. Howard mocked at 12, but seriously doubt the Browns take a tight end that early. Taking Evan Engram at this spot feels more appropriate.
San Francisco 49ers: Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA
- The 49ers get a #1 field cornerback in the third round. Fabian Moreau is a steal at this point.
Previous Pick: Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina
Chicago Bears: Desmond King, CB, Iowa
- Chicago has Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller. A nickel corner is needed though and Desomd King is the perfect fit for the Bears since he can play cornerback or safety. King would be a nickel cornerback in Chicago with the Bears taking Malik Hooker third overall.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Gerald Everett, TE, South Alabama
- Gerald Everett is a talented tight end. You can argue he's the best blocking tight end in the draft after O.J. Howard and David Njoku despite having small hands.
Los Angeles Rams: Derek Rivers, 3-4 ROLB, Youngstown State
- Grabbing Derek Rivers for depth who is a natural in the 3-4 defense off the edge would be a great pick for the Rams. Rivers can play defensive end in the 4-3 or outside linebacker in the 3-4 off the edge.
New York Jets: Marcus Maye, FS, Florida
- New York drafts a safety to pair up with Calvin Pryor. Marcus Maye would be a great addition at this point.
Los Angeles Chargers: Tedric Thompson, SS, Colorado
- The Chargers need to add another safety. Tedric Thompson is versatile enough to play safety at both strong safety and free safety despite having 4.6 speed with his 40-time.
New England Patriots: Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
- The Patriots will take Sidney Jones in a heart beat if he slides to 72. Jones will be such a huge steal if he falls to New England at 72.
Cincinnati Bengals: Teez Tabor, CB, Florida
- Cincinnati gets Florida cornerback Teez Tabor in the third round with his value being too good to pass on. Don't be surprised if the Bengals move him to free safety.
Previous Pick: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
Baltimore Ravens: Montravius Adams, 3-4 LE, Auburn
- Baltimore gets a guy that would start at 3-4 left end. Adams has experience at defensive tackle, 3-4 defensive end, and nose tackle.
Previous Pick: Malik McDowell, DT, Michigan State
Buffalo Bills: Corey Clement, RB, Wisconsin
- LeSean McCoy will need another running back behind him if Mike Gillislee leaves. Corey Clement is a realistic option and ideal replacement for Gillislee.
New Orleans Saints: Jonnu Smith, TE, Florida International
- New Orleans goes with a tight end at this spot. Jonnu Smith is a good value pick here. With the Saints adding Adrian Peterson, I doubt they go with a running back like Kareem Hunt here.
Previous Pick: Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo
Arizona Cardinals: Corn Elder, SS, Miami FL
- Arizona drafts Corn Elder as a safety here. Elder is versatile enough to play anywhere on the secondary.
Baltimore Ravens: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
- The Ravens get another running back for depth. D'Onta Foreman is the top running back on the board at this point.
Previous Pick: Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma
Minnesota Vikings: Josh Jones, SS, North Carolina State
- The Vikings get another safety. Josh Jones is someone who could compliment Harrison Smith very well down the road.
Indianapolis Colts: Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
- Indianapolis needs a cornerback. Pairing Quincy Wilson with Vontae Davis would be smart at this point.
Previous Pick: Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan
Washington Redskins: Dede Westbrook, WR, Oklahoma
- Washington needs a slot receiver. Dede Westbrook is a steal at this point.
Previous Pick: Jordan Willis, LE, Kansas State
Denver Broncos: Marlon Mack, RB, South Florida
- The Broncos get another running back for depth. Marlon Mack is someone Denver may consider at this point.
Tennessee Titans: Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee
- In this situation, Tennessee drafts a cornerback. Local cornerback Cameron Sutton could be someone to pair with Logan Ryan.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU
- Tampa Bay drafts a young receiver to learn under DeSean Jackson. Malachi Dupre is someone that can fill that role by learning under Jackson while seeing some opportunities in the slot.
Previous Pick: Dede Westbrook, WR, Oklahoma
Detroit Lions: Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech
- The Detroit Lions get a tight end who compliments Eric Ebron perfectly. Bucky Hodges is the top tight end available and may go higher than this.
Minnesota Vikings: Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma
- The Vikings draft Samaje Perine here. Perine compliments Latavius Murray well.
Previous Pick: Isaac Asiata, RG, Utah
New York Giants: Antonio Garcia, LT, Troy
- The Giants need a left tackle. Antonio Garcia is a steal at this point in the third round.
Previous Pick: Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss
Oakland Raiders: Dawuane Smoot, ROLB, Illinois
- The Raiders can draft Dawuane Smoot here. The Raiders can put Smoot where Malcolm Smith was.
Previous Pick: Montravius Adams, 3-4 LE, Auburn
Arizona Cardinals: ArDarius Stewart, WR, Alabama
- Arizona drafts a developmental wide receiver here. ArDarius Stewart would be a great receiver to develop here.
Previous Pick: Brad Seaton, RT, Villanova
Seattle Seahawks: Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Alabama
- In this situation, Seattle gets Dalvin Tomlinson to compete with Jarran Reed for a starting defensive tackle job. Tomlinson is the top defensive tackle available at this point.
Kansas City Chiefs: Joshua Dobbs, QB, Tennessee
- In this situation, Kansas City gets Joshua Dobbs. The Chiefs need a quarterback to develop for the future.
Dallas Cowboys: KD Cannon, WR, Baylor
- The Cowboys get KD Cannon. Cannon is an incredible deep threat. He needs to develop the rest of his game along with his route running. The Cowboys have veteran receivers in place and can take their time with Cannon here to make sure he reaches his full potential.
Green Bay Packers: Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo
- Green Bay uses this pick on a running back that can start right away. Kareem Hunt would be a great pick here.
Previous Pick: Dion Dawkins, LG, Temple
Pittsburgh Steelers: Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado
- Pittsburgh needs to get another cornerback. Ahkello Witherspoon would be a great pick at this point.
Previous Pick: Jake Butt, TE, Michigan
Atlanta Falcons: Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson
- The Falcons can draft a tight end here. Jordan Leggett was one of the prospects Atlanta met with during Senior Bowl week.
Previous Pick: Jonnu Smith, TE, Florida International
New England Patriots: Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan
- New England can take the best player on the board and ignore need. The Patriots cornerbacks include Malcolm Butler, Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe in the nickel, Sidney Jones in the quarter this season probably ready to replace Butler in a year from now, and now you get Jourdan Lewis to push last years third round pick Cyrus Jones for the quarter job with the loser of that competition likely moving to special teams as a return specialist.
Previous Pick: Jamaal Williams, RB, BYU
Miami Dolphins: Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami FL
- Miami gets the 97th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the New York Giants signed right end Olivier Vernon in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Vernon became a Free Agent in 2016.
- Miami gets Ryan Tannehill a suitable backup who can push both third stringer Brandon Doughty and current backup Matt Moore. I don't see Tannehill as a starter, but he could be a tremendous backup on a team like the Dolphins.
Carolina Panthers: Tarell Basham, RE, Ohio
- Carolina gets the 98th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Washington Redskins signed cornerback Josh Norman in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Norman became a Free Agent in 2016.
- The Carolina Panthers get a defensive end for depth. Tarell Basham was a sack artist at Ohio, and is a great pass rusher for Carolina to develop.
Previous Pick: Tyus Bowser, ROLB, Houston
Philadelphia Eagles: James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh
- Baltimore gets the 99th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Oakland Raiders signed left guard Kelechi Osmele in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Osmele became a Free Agent in 2016.
- Philadelphia needs an upgrade over Ryan Matthews. The Eagles have shown some interest in Pitt running back James Conner. If the Eagles pass on a running back in the first, I think that is a clear indicator that they are hoping for another LeSean McCoy in James Conner.
Tennessee Titans: Marcus Williams, FS, Utah
- Los Angeles gets the 100th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the New York Giants signed cornerback Janoris Jenkins in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Jenkins became a Free Agent in 2016. The Rams traded this pick to the Titans though.
- The Titans need someone besides Kevin Byard at safety. Marcus Williams is a steal here.
Previous Pick: Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU
Denver Broncos: Blake Jarwin, TE, Oklahoma State
- Denver gets the 101st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Jacksonville Jaguars signed defensive tackle Malik Jackson in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Jackson became a Free Agent in 2016.
- Denver goes with a tight end for depth. Blake Jarwin is a good addition for the Denver Broncos at this point.
Previous Pick: Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson
Seattle Seahawks: Demarcus Walker, RE, Florida State
- Seattle gets the 102nd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Denver Broncos signed left tackle Russell Okung in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Okung became a Free Agent in 2016.
- Seattle brings in a sack artist in Florida State defensive end Demarcus Walker. They don't need Walker, but you can argue he's too good to pass on at this point.
New Orleans Saints: Brad Seaton, RT, Villanova
- Cleveland gets the 103rd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Atlanta Falcons signed center Alex Mack in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Mack became a Free Agent in 2016. The Browns traded this pick to New England for Jamie Collins and this is the first year teams can deal compensation picks. As a result the Patriots moved this pick to the Saints in the Brandin Cooks trade.
- New Orleans gets a offensive tackle for depth. Brad Seaton can play both sides of the offensive line at both left tackle and right tackle.
Previous Pick: Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson
Kansas City Chiefs: Ethan Pocic, C, LSU
- Kansas City gets the 104th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Oakland Raiders signed cornerback Shaun Smith in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Smith became a Free Agent in 2016.
- The Chiefs draft an interior offensive lineman for depth here. Ethan Pocic gives the Chiefs offensive line quality depth here.
Previous Pick: Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado
Pittsburgh Steelers: Jerod Evans, QB, Virginia Tech
- Pittsburgh gets the 105th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Jacksonville Jaguars signed left tackle Kelvin Beachum in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Beachum became a Free Agent in 2016.
- Surprise Surprise, Pittsburgh gets their quarterback of the future here. Pittsburgh goes out on a bold limb by drafting Jerod Evans to groom behind Ben Roethlisberger.
Previous Pick: Dawuane Smoot, ROLB, Illinois
Seattle Seahawks: Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland
- Seattle gets the 106th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the Oakland Raiders signed left outside linebacker Bruce Smith in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Smith became a Free Agent in 2016.
- Seattle gets a tight end for depth to push last years third round pick Nick Vannett for a tight end spot. Seattle was one of a handful of teams at Ashland's Pro Day plus they brought Shaheen in for a private workout after that.
New York Jets: Ryan Anderson, 3-4 ROLB, Alabama
- New York gets the 107th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a compensation pick. They get this pick because the New York Giants signed defensive tackle Damon Harrison in the 2016 NFL Free Agency Period after Harrison became a Free Agent in 2016.
- The Jets draft another pass rusher. Ryan Anderson just seems like he's too good to pass on at this point.
