2015 NHL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 5

Posted By: Chris Ransom Last Updated: June, 26, 2015

  1. Buffalo Sabres: Gustav Bouramman, D, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL)

Gustav Bouramman is the only third round prospect left. The are a few 3rd-4th round players, but none of them stood out like Bouramman did so taking Bouramman at the top of the fifth round is the best thing to do.

  2. Arizona Coyotes: Gabriel Gagne, RW, Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)

Gabriel Gagne is the top right winger left. Arizona grabs Gagne with this pick hoping to get someone that can step in when Shane Doan retires.

  3. Edmonton Oilers: Thomas Schemitsch, D, Owen Sound Attack (OHL)

Thomas Schemitsch is a good bargain in the fifth round. The Oilers take another defenseman to add to their farm system.

  4. Toronto Maple Leafs: Matthew Bradley, LW, Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)

Toronto takes a left winger for depth in the fourth round after going center, right wing, and right wing with their first 3 picks. Adding Matthew Bradley is an awesome pick at this point in the fifth round.

  5. Carolina Hurricanes: Callum Booth, G, Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)

Carolina could use a developmental goalie. Booth was a 2nd-3rd round prospect before being benched for Zachary Fucale in the 2015 QMJHL Playoffs. That's why he fell to the fifth round.

  6. St. Louis Blues: Wyatt Kalynuk, D, Lincoln Stars (USHL)

St. Louis could use a defenseman. Wyatt Kalynuk is a good addition at this point.

  7. Philadelphia Flyers: Matthew Spencer, D, Peterborough Petes (OHL)

Matthew Spencer could have gone as early as the second round to Philadelphia. That's why this pick is a steal in Round 5.

  8. Columbus Blue Jackets: Andrew Nielsen, D, Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL)

Andrew Nielsen weighs 6-3 210 lbs. He's a second good defenseman to add your system. Not just that, he also has the size that Columbus covets in a defenseman.

  9. San Jose Sharks: Douglas Blaisdell, D, Kitchener Rangers (OHL)

San Jose adds another defenseman. Douglas Blaisdell is 6-3 205 lbs. He'd be a nice prospect to keep in the juniors for a couple of years until the San Jose Barracuda decide to reload on defense in the AHL.

Previous Pick: Blake Speers, C, Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds

  10. Montreal Canadiens: Deven Sideroff, RW, Kamloops Blazers (WHL)

Montreal adds a right winger for depth here. Deven Sideroff provides good value in the fifth round.

  11. Florida Panthers: Tate Olson, D, Prince George Cougars (WHL)

Florida gets defense for their farm system. Tate Olson is a good fifth round prospect.

  12. Dallas Stars: Liam Herbst, G, Ottawa 67's (OHL)

Liam Herbst made 11/11 saves in the 2015 CHL Prospects game. Herbst also had a save percentage just above .900 in 2014-2015. He's a good developmental goalie for Dallas in the fifth round.

Previous Pick: Douglas Blaisdell, D, Kitchener Rangers

  13. Los Angeles Kings: Pius Suter, C, Guelph Storm (OHL)

Drew Doughty played for the Guelph Storm before joining the Kings. Maybe the Kings draft another player on the Storm hoping to get a late round steal.

  14. Boston Bruins: Ryan Shea, D, Boston College HS (MA)

The Bruins' will draft someone that played in the Boston. There are too many local players in Massachusetts for Boston to pass on.

  15. Calgary Flames: Conor Garland, RW, Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL)

Conor Garland might be 19-years-old. He had 129 points in 2014-2015 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League which is the same amount of points Dylan Strome had in the Ontario Hockey League.

  16. Pittsburgh Penguins: Chase Pearson, C, Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)

It feels like Pittsburgh needs to draft a line 3 center behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Chase Pearson is the top center left in the fifth round.

  17. Carolina Hurricanes: Guillaume McSween, D, Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL)

Carolina takes one more defenseman. Guillaume McSween is a nice addition for Carolina here.

  18. Ottawa Senators: Andrew Mangiapane, LW, Barrie Colts (OHL)

Andrew Mangiapane is a 5-10 160 lb forward with the versatility to play left wing or center as a two-way forward.

Mangiapane recorded 104 points in 2014-2015. He displays excellent skating and a spot-on wrist shot. A poor slap shot along with the fact that he's 19-years-old causes this promising skater to fall to the fourth round.

  19. Detroit Red Wings: Cooper Marody, C, Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)

Detroit goes with a member of the USHL Champions in the fifth round. Cooper Marody is the best player available at this point.

  20. Columbus Blue Jackets: Dryden Hunt, C, Regina Pats (WHL)

Columbus adds another center. Dryden Hunt would be a good addition as he's projected to go early in the fifth round.

  21. San Jose Sharks: Samuel Dove-McFalls, C, Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL)

Samuel Dove-McFalls is the top player left. San Jose grabs him hoping the pick pays off in a few years. Worst case scenario you got a line 2 center on the San Jose Barracuda.

  22. Washington Capitals: Ethan Szypula, C, Owen Sound Attack (OHL)

The Washington Capitals could use more depth at center. Ethan Szypula is a good option late in the fifth round.

  23. Vancouver Canucks: Sergei Zborovsky, D, Regina Pats (WHL)

Sergei Zborovsky would be another nice addition to the Canucks blue line. For now he can finish his time in the juniors with the Regina Pats.

  24. Nashville Predators: J.C. Beaudin, RW, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL)

J.C. Beaudin is a big steal this late in the fifth round. Nashville could be getting a guy ready for the NHL sooner rather than later here.

Previous Pick: Liam Herbst, G, Ottawa 67's

  25. St. Louis Blues: Georg Sorensen, G, Herning Blue Fox (Denmark)

Georg Sorensen is one of 10 players from the 2015 NHL Draft that got an invite to the World Junior Championships. St. Louis drafts the 20-year-old as a developmental goalie knowing he can jump to the AHL right away, but will wait to go to the AHL in 2016-2017 with a 1-year contract he signed with Frrdrikshavn set to take place next season.

  26. Florida Panthers: Nick McBride, G, Prince Albert Raiders (WHL)

I never gave the Florida Panthers a developmental goalie behind Roberto Luongo. Maybe Nick McBride would be a good fit here.

  27. Anaheim Ducks: Connor Ingram, G, Kamloops Blazers (WHL)

John Gibson failed to win the starting goalie job after being the top goalie drafted in 2011. Anaheim drafts the future starting goalie for the San Diego Gulls in the AHL who may emerge into a threat to take the backup job from John Gibson in a few years.

  28. Vancouver Canucks: Adam Berg, LW, Regina Pats (WHL)

The New York Rangers traded this pick to Vancouver. The Canucks add some depth at the wing with Adam Berg at left wing.

  29. Tampa Bay Lightning: Jack Sadek, D, Lakeville North HS (MN)

Tampa Bay adds another defenseman. Jack Sadek is a guy you can take your time with since he will go to either the CHL or College to develop. Right now Sadek is the top high school skater in the state of Minnesota which makes him such a valued pick.

  30. Chicago Blackhawks: Jesper Lindgren, D, Modo Hockey (Elitserien)

Jesper Lindgren should have gone much higher than this. I thought I had him in this mock, but realized he wasn't mentioned in the first five rounds. He will be at least 2 rounds higher in our 2015 NHL Mock Draft next Friday when we expand to 6 rounds.
