Chicago has D.J. Moore as their number one wide receiver, Darnell Mooney as their number two wide receiver, and Chase Claypool as their slot receiver. Backups are needed at wide receiver though as Equanimeous St. Brown, Velus Jones Jr., and Daurice Fountain are the backup wide receivers with N'Keal Harry and Byron Pringle gone.
There are eight wide receivers I have fourth round grades on and one of those eight receivers is coming off the board right now. My eight receivers with fourth round grades to start the fourth round include Ole Miss wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, Houston wide receiver Nathaniel Dell, Nebraska wide receiver Trey Palmer, Wake Forest wide receiver A.T. Perry, SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice, Iowa State wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson, East Carolina wide receiver C.J. Johnson, Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed, and Princeton wide receiver Andrei Iosivas. Ultimately, I settled on Jonathan Mingo for Chicago with rumors about Mingo going as early as the second round and with Mingo having a consensus day 2 grade, he made the most sense for Chicago in the fourth round as a big body target.
Jonathan Mingo is a guy I did four film sessions on. I watched Mingo struggle against Auburn and intially gave him a seventh round grade before watching Mingo versus Tulane in 2021 where Mingo looked a lot better compared to his 2020 game against Auburn. I watched Mingo against Alabama and Arkansas in 2022 with quarterback Jaxson Dart replacing Matt Corral.
Jonathan Mingo showcased the ability to make catches in double coverage which is something I haven't seen from a wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft class yet that I wanted to see. Mingo also did well against Arkansas, but didn't stand out in that contest like he did against Alabama.
The 6-1 226 lb Jonathan Mingo had 27 receptions, 379 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns in 2020. Jonathan Mingo had 22 receptions, 346 receiving yards, nad 3 receiving touchdowns in 2021. Jonathan Mingo had 51 receptions, 861 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2022.
Jonathan Mingo showcased the ability to catch short, medium, and deep passes in 2022. His route running still needs to be refined, but you can argue he's the best run blocking wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft. That's going to beneficial to a run heavy team like the Chicago Bears.
Chicago has short-term stability at wide receiver in 2023 with D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool. Chicago also has long-term stability in 2024 and beyond if Chicago lets Mooney and Claypool walk assuming Jonathan Mingo and Velus Jones Jr. manage to develop as wide receivers under passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert in 2023.
The Houston Texans have Jaxon Smith-Njiba, who I mocked at 12, Nico Collins as their number two wide receiver, and Robert Woods as the slot receiver. Right now John Metchie III whose coming back from leukemia is the number four receiver with Noah Brown as the number five wide receiver. One more receiver for depth is needed. Houston decides to take the best available wide receiver of my eight fourth round prospects off the board.
The 5-8 163 lb Nathaniel Dell had 90 receptions, 1,329 receiving yards, and 12 receiving touchdownns in 2021. Nathaniel Dell had 109 receptions, 1,398 receiving yards, and 17 receiving touchdowns in 2022.
You will see Nathaniel Dell perform precise routes with screen passes, streaks, slants, wheel routes, post routes, post stops, curls, curl stops, drags, snags, shoots, out routes, out & ups, corner routes, slugos, slugo posts, slugo stops, IOU's, stop & gos, double stops, and double stop & gos. Can execute any type of route at a high level. After Marquez Stevenson was part of the 2021 NFL Draft at wide receiver for Houston, Nathaniel Dell took over where Stevenson left off.
Nathaniel Dell did well enough to earn an invite to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. He's got to put on some muscle in the NFL around 10-15 lbs unless he wants to be just the number four wide receiver on Dallas or potentially just a punt returner on special teams. Nathaniel Dell is one of the players in this draft class that you start out with on special teams and elevate his role as he adds more muscle.
Nathaniel Dell ran a 4.49 at the 2023 NFL Combine. Worst case scenario, Dell is your number six receiver and your new return specialist on special teams. Best case scenario, he beats out both Noah Brown who ranked 97/113 on Pro Football Focus in 2022 and John Metchie III Houston's 2022 third round pick out of Alabama for the number four wide receiver job. Dell would end up learning under Robert Woods for a year and then the former Houston Cougar becomes the Houston Texans slot receiver in 2024 with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Nico Collins complimenting him on the outside in three wide receiver sets.
Arizona needs a day one starter at center with Rodney Hudson retiring. Ricky Stromberg is my top center available. There are two other fourth round centers in Oregon's Alex Forsyth and Penn State center Juice Scruggs. Any of those three would be a good pick here, but it comes down to the best player on the Arizona Cardinals draft board of those three.
The 6-3 315 lb Ricky Stromberg has the pass blocking, pass blocking strength, run blocking, run blocking strength, run blocking footwork, and zone blocking you want. Ricky Stromberg was part of an offensive line that led all power 5 schools in rushing yards in 2021 before allowing 0 sacks at center in 2022. Ricky Stromberg's consistent play at center speaks for itself.
Arizona's offensive line will be more effective next season assuming no injuries occur. The Arizona Cardinals will have D.J. Humphries at left tackle, Elijah Wilkinson at left guard, Ricky Stromberg at center, Will Hernandez at right guard, and Kelvin Beachum at right tackle. Arizona has Josh Jones as a swing tackle and Lecitus Smith as a swing guard. Hjalte Froholdt is the current starting center for Arizona, but if Arizona drafts a rookie center before the fifth round, I'm fairly confident that rookie can beat out Froholdt for the center job in training camp.
Hopefully Arizona can keep this offensive line together after the 2023 season when Elijah Wilkinson, Kelvin Beachum, and Josh Jones are unrestricted Free Agents. Keeping this offensive line together gives Arizona a shot at contending as early as 2024 in year two under Jonathan Gannon once Kyler Murray comes back from his torn ACL injury that he suffered in week 14 of the 2022 NFL Season.
Indianapolis needs another cornerback to pair with Isaiah Rodgers and Kenny Moore after trading Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys. Indianapolis drafts another Gamecock to replace Stephon Gilmore with South Carolina cornerback Darius Rush.
The 6-1 196 lb Darius Rush was a cornerback that played with Cam Smith on South Carolina. I gave Darius Rush an A grade in man coverage, an A grade in zone coverage, and a B grade in press coverage. Darius Rush can play in a cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, or cover 4 scheme.
Darius Rush was pretty consistent throughout the draft process. Darius Rush had a good week in Mobile at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl, he followed that up with a strong performance at the 2023 NFL Combine running a 4.37 40 yard dash, and Rush topped that off with an excellent performance at South Carolina's 2023 Pro Day by acing every part of the draft process.
Drafting Darius Rush gives the Colts a cornerback room of Isaiah Rodgers, Darius Rush, and Kenny Moore as your nickel cornerback in 2023. Mitchell gives you a day 1 starter, but the Colts also need depth at cornerback with both Rodgers and Kenny Moore in contract years. I'm not sold on Dallis Turner at cornerback personally, so I'm not ruling out the possibility of mocking another cornerback to the Colts later in this mock draft. I don't see the Colts drafting three cornerbacks, but I can see the Colts drafting two cornerbacks if they want depth as well as long-term stability at the position.
The Los Angeles Rams traded their 2023 fourth round pick to New England for Sony Michel. That was a move that backfired for the Rams. However, New England can draft a cornerback here.
New England has Jonathan Jones, Jalen Mills, Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, and Myles Bryant with all of their top five cornerbacks back at cornerback. New England has Jalen Mills and Myles Bryant in contract years. Their nickel corner Jack Jones can play on the outside when Jones or Mills is out of the lineup, but there are character concerns with him. You also have Marcus Jones whose great on special teams and lethal as a nickel cornerback, but that's his ceiling. I'm not ruling it past Bill Belichick to draft a sixth cornerback that is good enough to play now, but is also someone the Patriots can stash for the future.
The 5-11 193 lb Cameron Mitchell became Northwestern's field cornerback as early as his freshman redshirt year in 2020 covering number one receivers when eventual first round pick Greg Newsome II was injured. Mitchell has excelled in that role the last two seasons at Northwestern since Greg Newsome II got drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. I gave Cameron Mitchell an A- in man coverage, an A- in zone coverage, and a B in press coverage. Cameron Mitchell can play in a cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, or cover 4 scheme.
Cameron Mitchell had 9 solo tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 18 total tackles, 6 deflections from pass breakups, and 1 interception in 2020. Cameron Mittchell had 39 solo tackles, 9 assisted taackles, 48 total tackles, 6 deflections from pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble in 2021.
Cameron Mitchell put together his best season in his draft year with 38 solo tackles, 14 assisted tackles, 52 total taackles, 10 deflections from pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1 interception, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in 2022. Cameron Mitchell also ran a 4.47 40 yard dash time and did 23 reps on the bench press at the 2023 NFL Combine.
Denver needs a third running back for depth behind Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine. Keaton Mitchell is a value pick that I really like for the Denver Broncos at this point in the fourth round.
The 5-9 184 lb Keaton Mitchell had 174 carries, 1,132 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 22 receptions, 253 receiving yards, 196 touches, 1,385 total yards, and 10 total touchdowns in 2021. Keaton Mitchell had 201 carries, 1,452 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, 27 receptions, 252 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 228 touches, 1,704 total yards, and 15 total touchdowns in 2022.
Keaton Mitchell ran wild on Cincinnati Bearcats 3-4 middle linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. Keaton Mitchell is the best running back that I've seen play for East Carolina since Chris Johnson. He's not the star Chris Johnson is, but he is good enough to get drafted in the third or fourth round of what is a really deep draft class at running back in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Keaton Mitchell is the son of former Baltimore Ravens running back Anthony Mitchell. Anthony Mitchell was a backup running back on Baltimore's Super Bowl 35 team. Anthony Mitchell blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown when the Ravens upset the Titans in the Ravens Divisional Round win against the top seed Tennessee Titans prior to Super Bowl 35. That tells me Keaton Mitchell can play on special teams as someone who blocks field goals, punts, or can be a return specialist too. Denver will probably use Keaton Mitchell on special teams as a rookie with how deep their running back room is.
Las Vegas replaced their 2019 first round pick Jonathan Abram with Duron Harmon during the regular season last year. Now Philadelphia Eagles strong safety Marcus Epps is now the startering strong safety for the Raiders in 2023. Las Vegas needs a starting strong safety that they can develop for a year behind Marcus Epps. Jordan Battle is a perfect candidate for Las Vegas to develop here.
The 6-1 206 lb Jordan Battle got torched by Texas A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer the last two years. However, Battle dominated everyone else while Wydermyer got cut from the Bills. Jordan Battle had 50 solo tackles, 34 assisted tackles, 84 total tackles, 6 deflections from pass breakups, 3 interceptions, and 1 tackle for a loss in 2021. Jordan Battle had 34 solo tackles, 37 assisted tackles, 71 total tackles, 2 deflections from pass breakups, 1 interception, and 0.5 sack in 2022. Jordan Battle also showed the versatility to play both strong safety and free safety on film in 2022. Jordan Battle put everything together as a senior and cemented a spot in the first four rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft.
I would give Jordan Battle an A- in man coverage, zone coverage, and press coverage just by watching his senior tape at Alabama in 2022, but the drawback to that is that 2022 was his only season where he dominanted on a game-to-game basis when targeted. Wydermyer picked him apart in 2020 and 2021 when Alabama played Texas A&M.
I posted a film cut of Alabama safety Jordan Battle VS Texas. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
Atlanta gets a new starting left guard after Elijah Wilkinson signed with Arizona. Many are arguing that Steve Avila is a top 100 player despite struggling in one-on-ones against Siaki Ika.
Atlanta brings in TCU left guard Steve Avila to compete with Matt Hennessy Atlanta's former center and Jalen Mayfield Atlanta's former left guard to compete for the left guard job. Tony Mario has Steve Avila going to the Houston Texans as a center in the second round of his 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
The 6-3 332 lb Steve Avila lined up at left guard and center for TCU. He pass blocked for quarterback Max Duggan. He also run blocked for Zach Evans when he was at TCU and running back Kendre Miller. Steve Avila has the pass blocking, pass blocking strength, run blocking, run blocking strength, run blocking footwork, and zone blocking. Steve Avila checks off a lot of boxes and if he's there in the fourth round, then the Ravens have to draft him.
Atlanta has Jake Matthews at left tackle, Steve Avila at left guard, Drew Dahlman at center, Chris Lindstrom at right guard, and Kaleb McGary at right tackle. Atlanta would also have Jalen Mayfield and Matt Hennessy for depth on the interior offensive line. Atlanta has every starter on their offensive line except their left guard back under contract.
Browns Wire gave Amari Cooper an A grade, Donovan Peoples-Jones a B grade, David Bell their rookie wide receiver a C grade, and second year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz who I had a seventh round grade on a D grade. Andrew Berry took Anthony Schwartz over Amon-Ra St. Brown who I had a second round grade on back in 2021. Cleveland has to draft another receiver to compete with David Bell, Michael Woods II, and Anthony Schwartz after drafting my thirty fourth best wide receiver over my seventh best wide receiver.
The Cleveland Browns get a wide receiver here. Cleveland currently has Amari Cooper as their flanker receiver as their number one target, Donovan Peoples-Jones as their secondary wide receiver as the number two target, Elijah Moore is the number three receiver and the slot receiver, Marquese Goodwin will be Cleveland's number four target for the 2023 NFL Season. Both David Bell and Michael Woods II sucked as rookies while Cleveland's 2021 third round pick Anthony Schwartz was an awful selection considering the Browns blew a golden opportunity to draft Amon-Ra St. Brown who I had a second round grade on before the Detroit Lions took their eventual number one target out of USC. This is why another receiver is coming off the board here for Cleveland.
Both Donovan-Peoples Jones and Marques Goodwin are in contract years. Elijah Moore is too small to be anything more than a slot receiver. Neither one of the rookies Cleveland got in the 2022 NFL Draft is good enough to be a long-term number two target with both receivers being developmental wide receivers that could develop into slot receivers down the road. What makes things worse is Cleveland won't have a first round pick until the 2025 NFL Draft. Cleveland could draft a receiver this year, and he could be a guy who ends up as the number two receiver in 2024 when Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore enter contract years.
I was looking at Trey Palmer, A.T. Perry, and Rashee Rice here. Trey Palmer is the youngest of those three receivers and he would have the most longevity of those three to develop into a top three wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns.
The 6-0 193 lb Trey Palmer had 71 receptions, 1,043 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Trey Palmer had good plays on film against Cameron Mitchell, Cory Trice, and Riley Moss when facing Northwestern, Purdue, and Iowa. He struggled against Illinois Devon Witherspoon, Michigan D.J. Turner, and Rutgers cornerback Max Melton whose on pace to be a 2024 first round cornerback for Rutgers.
Trey Palmer ran a 4.33 40 time at the 2023 NFL Combine. The level of competiton Trey Palmer faced in the Big 10 is tougher than the competion Rashee Rice or A.T. Perry faced. Palmer began his NCAA career at LSu before going to Nebraska through the transfer portal. Palmer is a guy who works for a vertical offense which the Cleveland Browns ar eswitching too. He can run short, medium, and deep routes effectively, yet needs to improve his route running on the route tree. He's an amazing deep threat, but only runs 5-7 routes out of 30 total routes on the route tree.
Trey Palmer can run streaks and screen passes at a high level. There are four other routes he can run effectively. He needs a lot of development as a route runner since he can only execute 20 percent of NFL routes at a high level right now. At the same time, if Cleveland's coaching staff fixes his route running, the potential for Palmer to develop into a viable replacement to Donovan Peoples-Jones, assuming Cleveland moves on from Donovan Peoples-Jones is there.
New York drafts the best defensive tackle on the board here. The Jets currently Quinnen Williams, last years backup Solomon Thomas, Quinton Jefferson a defensive lineman on Seattle as a backup, Isaiah Mack on a one year deal, and Tanzel Smart who spent the 2022 season on the Jets practice squad. There is one fourth round defensive tackle that had 10 sacks in 2022 and I'm mocking him to the Jets to compete with Solomon Thomas and Quinton Jefferson for the starting defensive tackle spot next to Quinnin Williams.
New York finally gets a defensive tackle that can start next to Quinnen Williams. New York brought Solomon Thomas back, but I feel like he's a backup at this point.
The 6-4 300 lb Karl Brooks had 30 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 50 total tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 4 deflections from pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles in 2022. Karl Brooks has the versatility to play 4-3 right end, 4-3 defensive tackle, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right end, 3-4 nose tackle, and 3-4 left end. He was listed as a 3-4 left end on Bowling Green's preseason depth chart, but lined up pretty much everywhere on Bowling Green's defensive line.
He's extremely versatile as a defensive linemen and can be used situationally off the edge. He's the top player in the 2023 NFL Draft that did not get invited to the 2023 NFL Combine.
Atlanta has Drake London, Mack Hollins, Scotty Miller, and Marvin Mims Jr., who I mocked to Atlanta in the third round. Atlanta grabs a big body target for depth that way if Mack Hollins gets injured, the Falcons can just grab a second big body target.
The 6-3 195 lb A.T. Perry had 71 receptions, 1,293 receiving yards, and 15 receiving touchdowns in 2021. A.T. Perry had 81 receptions, 1,096 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns in 2022.
A.T. Perry was listed at 6-5 205 lbs, but weighed 6-3 195 lbs at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. I heard a story about how A.T. Perry was running sprints outside of a nightclub even volunteering to help security guards and bouncers deal with intruders and stalkers at the night club. Some media reporters on the Athletic were talking about this at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl practice. I can't confirm or deny if this story is true, but the story sounded cool at the time.
I saw A.T. Perry run 24/30 routes on the route tree. That's about as many routes as Garrett Wilson ran last year. He's a good run blocking wide receiver too. I don't think Perry has the top end explosive burst and first step quickness that Garrett Wilson has even though he can burn you at times with his speed.
I saw A.T. Perry on film against Clemson twice and Vanderbilt in 2022. He had two drops against Clemson in both games and two drops against Vanderbilt. He had no drops during practice at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl.
Carolina is switching to a 3-4 defense. It's time to mock a defensive player to Carolina.
The 6-3 289 lb Dante Stills may be the most consistent player in college football over a four year eriod in terms of getting tackles for a loss. Dante Stills had 14 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 25 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, 2 quarterback hurries, 1 deflection from a pass breakup, and 1 forced fumble in 2019. Dante Stills had 15 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 35 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 deflectins fro pass breakups, 1 quarterback hurry, and 1 blocked punt in 2020. Dante Stills had 29 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, 36 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception in 2021. Dante Stills had 13 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, 26 totl tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 1 deflection from a pass breakup, and 1 blocked punt in 2022.
Dante Stills did great at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. Dante Stills ran a 4.93 unofficial 40 yard dash, a 4.85 official 40 ard dash, and did 20 reps on the bench press. West Virginia's defensive lineman has the perfect hand size for a pass rusher too.
Carolina would have Derrick Brown at 3-4 right end, Shy Tuttle at 3-4 nose tackle, and Dante Stills at 3-4 left end. Carolina would have Brian Burns at 3-4 right outside linebacker, Shaq Thompson at 3-4 middle linebacker, Frankie Luvu at 3-4 middle linebacker, and Jeremy Chinn playing a combination of 3-4 middle linebacker in 3-4 packages and nickel corner in nickel packages next to cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Donte Jackson. Carolina signed Von Bell at strong safety while bringing back last years starting free safety Xavier Woods.
Dante Stills is the missing piece for Carolina's defense, so now Carolina can draft for value the rest of the way after spending their first three picks on offensive players at quarterback, wide receiver, and backup running back with a second round running back dropping to Carolina in the third round.
I posted a film cut of West Virginia defensive lineman Dante Stills VS Pittsburgh. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
I posted a Dante Stills Interview from the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. You can click the link to listen to the Interview.
The New Orleans Saints get a third string running back for depth to compliment Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams here in the fourth round. Ole Miss running back Zach Evans would be a great change of pace running back behind Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams for his first two years. By the time year three of his rookie deal arrives, New Orleans will most likely cut Kamara if he gets suspended in 2023 or more likely Williams while allowing Evans to finally get some significant touches before the end of his rookie deal.
The 5-11 202 lb Zach Evans had 92 carries, 648 rushing yards, and 5 rushing touchdowns at TCU in 2021. He'll now start at running back at Ole Miss with Jaxson Dart throwing him the ball in 2022 after entering the transfer portal.
Zach Evans had 144 carries, 936 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 12 receptions, 119 receiving yards, 156 touches, 1,555 total yards, and 10 total touchdowns in 2022. My friend Christian Williams said Zach evans is good in pass protection which was my one question mark because the speed, pass catching, and ball carrier vision is there.
The 6-6 268 lb Noah Gindorff had 6 receptions, 74 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown in 2022. Gindorff could have done more had it not been for a season ending injury. If you're looking at a tight end who dominates in terms of both pass blocking and run blocking, Noah Gindorff is your man.
You will see Noah Gindorff perform precise routes with screen passes, streaks, slants, wheel routes, post routes, post stops, curls, curl stops, drags, snags, shoots, out routes, out & ups, corner routes, slugos, slugo posts, slugo stops, IOU's, stop & gos, double stops, and double stop & gos. Can execute any type of route at an elite level. Noah Gindorff has to show he can stay durable and healthy if he's gonna have an impact as a backup tight end with Green Bay.
Green Bay lost Robert Tonyan Jr. and Marcedes Lewis. Josiah Deguara is a fullback. This means Green Bay will take a backup tight end in the 2023 NFL Draft if the value is there. In this situation, the value is there for Green Bay to draft a backup tight end.
New England can draft a free safety for depth behind Jabrill Peppers here. Ji'Ayir Brown is one safety left in my rankings with the upside to develop into a starter.
The 5-11 208 lb Ji'Ayir Brown fills a need for New England and he can compete with Jabrill Peppers for the free safety job now that Devin McCourty retired assuming Kyle Dugger remains at strong safety. Ji'Ayir Brown complimented Jaquan Brisker at free safety for Penn State in 2021 where he had 61 solo tackles, 12 assisted tackles, 73 total tackles, 11 deflections from pass breakups, 6 interceptions, 1 tackle for a loss, and 1 defensive touchdown in 2021. Ji'Ayir Brown got a C grade for man coverage, an A+ grade for zone coverage, and a C grade for press coverage from his 2021 tape.
Ji'Ayir Brown had 56 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, 74 total tackles, 7 deflections from pass breakups, 7 tackles for a loss, and 4 interceptions in 2022. Ji'Ayir Brown showed he could lead without Jaquan Brisker as Penn State's free safety. I believe he will be a day 1 starter for an NFL team at free safety. I didn't see much of a difference from his 2021 to 2022 tape, so New England should draft Ji'Ayir Brown if the Patriots want a zone coverage safety.
Washington could get a guard, but signing Andrew Wylie gave Washington an offensive line with Charles Leno Jr. at left tackle, Andrew Norwell at left guard, Chase Roulliier at center, Sam Cosmi at right guard, and Andrew Wylie at right tackle. That's a good starting offensive line when everyone is healthy even though depth could be used. That's why I am giving Washington the best player on the board.
Washington gets a 4-3 defensive end for depth behind Chase Young and Montez Sweat to develop into a starter. Chase Young enters the final year of his rookie deal unless he gets a fifth year tender while Montez Sweat will be an unrestricted Free Agent. Even if Young gets tendered, getting another pass rusher wouldn't hurt with no right guards on the board.
Washington spends their 2023 fourth round pick on a defensive end that was a five sport athlete that played football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, and track in High School. Caleb Murphy committed to Grand Valley State after playing all of those sports in High School. He was roomates with Quinton Barrow, another 2023 NFL Draft prospect on Grand Valley State before transferring to Ferris State where he's dominated the last two seasons in Division 2.
The 6-3 254 lb Caleb Murphy may be the biggest steal among defensive ends in the 2023 NFL Draft. Caleb Murphy had 21 tackles for a loss and 14.5 sacks in 2021 while leading Ferris State to a Division 2 Championship. Caleb Murphy had 39.5 tackles for a loss and 25.5 sacks in 2022. Murphy led Ferris State to a second consecutive Division 2 Championship while also becoming the first non FBS player to win the Ted Hendricks Award, which goes to the top defensive end in College Football.
Caleb Murphy can play 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right outisde linebacker, and 3-4 left outside linebacker with his versatility. You can argue he's got the body of an outside linebacker, but he places his hand in the dirt on a lot of plays before the snap. The rip moves and swim moves are there when you watch his tape. He's got a nice spin move and chop move as well. The more I watch this guy on film, the more I believe he's got an outside shot to sneak into the second day of the 2023 NFL Draft. He will be a steal if he falls to the third day of the 2023 NFL Draft.
I posted a Caleb Murphy Interview from the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. You can click the link to listen to the Interview.
The Minnesota Vikings use this 2023 fourth round pick from the Detroit lions in the T.J. Hockenson trade to draft a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth. Minnesota has Jordan Hicks and Brian Asamoah II as their starting 3-4 middle linebackers. One of Minnesota's backups is Troy Dye a 2020 draft pick out of Oregon. One more backup is needed to round out Minnesota's depth chart.
The 5-10 231 lb Ivan Pace Jr. had 56 solo tackles, 61 assisted tackles, 137 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, 4 deflections from pass breakups, and 3 forced fumbles in his only season at Cincinnati in 2022. Ivan Pace Jr. played at Miami Ohio before transferring to Cincinnati.
Ivan Pace Jr. is a tackling maching. He's also the one sack artist at middle linebacker in the 2023 NFL Draft that can rush the quarterback as a pass rusher as well as stop the run. He blitzes and is fast. The one area of his game that he needs to improve is his coverage. He interviewed well at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl when listening to him.
Pittsburgh drafts a 3-4 outside linebacker for depth in the fourth round since the value is there. Alex Highsmith enters a contract year after having a career high in sacks. T.J. Watt also missed the first half of last season with injuries, but now he's healthy. Andre Carter II would be a good player for Pittsburgh to draft and develop as a backup situational edge rusher for a year.
The 6-6 252 lb Andre Carter II is versatile enough to play 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right outside linebacker, or 3-4 left outside linebacker. Andre Carter II had 34 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, 44 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, and 15.5 sacks in 2021. Andre Carter II had 21 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 41 total tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, 2 deflections from pass breakups, and 1 quarterback hurry in 2022.
Andre Carter II can go straight to the NFL without completing his military service thanks to a bill that President Joe Biden passed. This is the only shoutout I'm giving the current Commander In Chief, so enjoy it Mr. President. Let's get back to the Army pass rusher that entered the preseason with a first round grade after a dominant 2021 season.
Andre Carter II improved his rip and swim moves despite haaving 12 fewer sacks in 2022. He also struggled at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. On one play against Ohio State right tackle Dawand Jones, Jones absolutely floored Andre Carter II on the ground. He only had 12 reps on the bench press at the 2023 NFL Combine. Andre Carter II can develop into a starting 3-4 outside linebacker if he hits the weight room for a year and gets stronger. Right now he's talented yet extremely raw.
Previous Pick: Noah Gindorff, TE, North Dakota State
Jacksonville needs depth at both offensive tackle spots. Cam Robinson remains the starting left tackle while Walker Little is taking over for Jawaan Taylor at right tackle. It won't surprise me if Jacksonville takes a swing tackle earlier than this with Cam Robinson being listed as questionable for training camp.
The 6-5 325 lb Tyler Steen can play left tackle, left guard, right guard, and right tackle with his versatility as he played right tackle for two years at Vanderbilt with one year at left tackle before playing left tackle for Alabama in 2022. He competed in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl before an injury kept him from working out at the 2023 NFL Combine. Steen looked good at Alabama's 2023 Pro Day in positional drills. Jacksonville could take Tyler Steen as a swing tackle to Cam Robinson and Walker Little in the fourth round.
Kansas City owns this 2023 fourth round pick from the Miami Dolphins thanks to the Tyreek Hill trade. Kansas City has Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, and Jacquelin Roy who I mocked in round 3. One more defensive tackle for depth wouldn't hurt and Kobie Turner.
The 6-2 288 lb Kobie Turner had 21 solo tackles, 17 assisted tackles, 38 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 9 quarterback hurries, 3 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, and 2 deflections from pass breakups in 2022. Kobie Turner has great block shedding, rip moves, and swim moves despite his size. Kobie Turner has a chance to be a steal in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Seattle drafts a center needing a day 1 starter at center. Oregon Ducks center Alex Forsyth is the best center on the board.
The 6-4 303 lb Alex Forsyth would pass block for Bo Nix while run blocking for Oregon's running game. Seattle needs a day 1 starter at center and this one of two centers with starter potential still on the board. Alex Forsyth played left guard, right guard, and right tackle before settling in at center in 2020 after Jake Hanson graduated and got drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Seattle would have Charles Cross at left tackle, Damien Lewis at left guard, Alex Forsyth at center, O'Cyrus Torrence at right guard, and Abraham Lucas at right tackle. With this offensive line, quarterback Geno Smith and running back Kenneth Walker III continue to play at a high level.
Baltimore gets a replacement to Ben Powers at left guard. McClendon Curtis is a great value pick here.
The 6-5 331 lb McClendon Curtis played 30 games at right guard, seven games at left tackle, and 1 game at left guard in his 38 career starts at Chattanooga. He's the best offensive guard on the board at this point in the fourth round and I think he'd have a real shot of being a day 1 starter on the Baltimore Ravens. On any other team, he'd have to develop for a year. McClendon Curtis has the pass blocking, pass blocking strength,, run blocking, run blocking strength, run blocking footwork, and zone blocking. McClendon Curtis has to develop his pass blocking footwork, but everything else is there. He's great at pull blocking too.
Baltimore's offensive line now has Ronnie Stanley at left tackle, McClendon Curtis at left guard, Tyler Linderbaum at center, Kevin Zeitler at right guard, and Morgan Moses at right tackle. Baltimore has guys like Daniel Faalele and Ben Cleveland as quality backups at offensive tackle and guard that can start if needed.
The Los Angeles Chargers have Sebastian Joseph-Day back at 3-4 right end and Austin Johnson at 3-4 nose tackle. Los Angeles needs a replacement to Jerry Tillery at 3-4 left end after releasing Jerry Tillery midseason.
The 6-3 297 lb Byron Young had 20 solo tackles, 28 assisted tackles, 48 total tackles, 6 quarterback hurries, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 2 deflections from pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble in 2022. Byron Young has the block shedding, rip moves and swim moves on film despite playing only 5-techinque at Alabama.
Byron Young got an invite to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Byron Young could go anywhere between the late third round and the early fourth round. The co-host of my podcast Joseph Potter thought he had an outside shot to go in the first round. Los Angeles gets a tremendous value pick with Byron Young in the fourth round.
Minnesota traded a 2023 fourth round pick to Cleveland to get a 2022 fourth round pick. Cleveland's current backup quarterback to Deshaun Watson is Kellen Mond, who couldn't even win the backup gig on the Minnesota Vikings after the Vikings drafted Mond with a 2021 third round pick. Cleveland drafts a safety for depth behind strong safety Grant Delpit and free safety Juan Thornhill. Cleveland no longer needs a quarterback with Deshaun Watson, Josh Dobbs, and Kellen Mond on the roster. I considered California safety Daniel Scott here, but Brandon Hill is three years younger, and I feel like the Browns will draft a younger safety.
The 5-11 195 lb Brandon Hill had 38 solo tackles, 29 assisted tackles, 67 total tackles, 2 deflections from pass breakups, 1 fumble recovery, and 0.5 tackles for a loss in 2022. Brandon Hill has the ceiling of a backup safety, but this is a solid value pick for Cleveland in the fourth round. Hill is a hard hitting safety and he showed the versatility to play both strong safety and free safety against West Virginia in 2022.
Jacksonville doubles up at cornerback here. Jacksonville ends up with a player who really did well during practice at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl.
The 6-1 220 lb Mekhi Garner began his career at Louisiana. He transferred to LSU in the transfer portal prior to the 2022 College Football Season.
Mekhi Garner had 26 solo tackles, 17 assisted tackles, 43 total tackles, 7 deflections from pass breakups, and 1.5 tackles for a loss with LSU in 2022. He did well at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl.
I gave Mekhi Garner an A grade in man coverage, a C grade in zone coverage, and a B+ in press coverage. Garner really improved his press coverage after transferring from Louisiana to LSU. His zone needs work, but he's got potential to be an effective cornerback playing Cover 0, Cover 1, and Cover 2 schemes where he drops back in man coverage on an NFL roster. He's also got to do a better job wrapping up tackles as a run stuffer. He impressed me enough at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl to warrant this grade.
New York lost their starting center Jon Feliciano and their backup center Nick Gates. New York is the one team taht can take a center early without getting crap for it.
The 6-2 308 lb Juice Scruggs pass blocked for quarterback Sean Clifford while run blocking for true freshman Nicholas Singleton. Scruggs has good pass blocking and run blocking. He needs to improve his strength and footwork. Surprsingly, Scruggs has potential to be a day 1 starter at center.
Dallas replaces Dalton Scultz with another tight end here. Ifeel like Alabama tight end Cameron Latu would be an upgrade over every tight end on the Dallas Cowboys.
The 6-4 248 lb Cameron Latu took the starting tight end job from Jahleel Billingsley. Cameron Latu had 26 receptions, 410 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns with Alabama in 2021. Cameron Latu had 30 receptions, 377 receiving yards, and 4 receiving touchdowns with Alabama in 2022.
Cameron Latu may be the best blocking tight end in terms of both run blocking and pass blocking in this draft class. You will see Cameron Latu perform precise routes with screen passes, streaks, slants, wheel routes, post routes, post stops, curls, curl stops, drags, snags, shoots, out routes, out & ups, corner routes, slugos, slugo posts, slugo stops, IOU's, stop & gos, double stops, and double stop & gos. Can execute any type of route at an elite level and went from running thirteen routes in 2021 to running all 30 routes in 2022. There were at least 11 plays against Texas where Cameron Latu was wide open, but Bryce Young didn't get him the ball in 2022.
Someone like Cameron Latu would be a superb fit for Dallas as this draft class has at least five different tight ends that can run all 30 routes on the route tree that can block along with nine different tight ends that can run every route on the route tree. Dallas has Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot, but I honestly believe Cameron Latu has a higher ceiling than both of those tight ends which is why I mocked Latu to Dallas in the fourth round.
I posted a film cut of Alabama tight end Cameron Latu VS Texas. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.
James Cook is now Buffalo's starting running back. Buffalo replaced Devin Singletary with New England Patriots running back Damien Harris. Nyhiem Hines enters a contract year with Buffalo having zero cap on his contract meaning Brandon Beane can cut Hines to save cap space any time he wants. Buffalo drafts another running back to compliment James Cook and Damien Harris here in the fourth round.
The 6-0 214 lb Zach Charbonnet does a lot well on tape for a running back. He has the speed, pass catching, ball carrier vision, and pass blocking you want from an NFL running back. His running backs coach at UCLA is former NFL running back Deshaun Foster.
Zach Charbonnet had 202 carries, 1,137 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, 24 receptions, 197 receiving yards, 0 receiving touchdowns, 226 touches, 1,334 total yards, and 13 total touchdowns in 2021. Zach Charbonnet had 195 carries, 1,359 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, 37 receptions, 321 receiving yards, 0 receiving touchdowns, 232 touches, 1,680 total yards, and 14 total touchdowns in 2022.
Zach Charbonnet ran a 4.53 40 time at the 2023 NFL Combine. He also never had a receiving touchdown in his four years at UCLA. He's a player I initially had a second round grade on and at one point was my number four running back behind Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sean Tucker back in September. He falls to Buffalo in the fourth round providing a nice value pick for the Buffalo Bills.
Cincinnati gets a cornerback for depth. Chidobe Awuzie, Cam Taylor-Britt, and Mike Hilton as their top three cornerbacks. Cam Taylor-Britt started as a rookie and did well once Awuzie got injured. Now that Eli Apple is gone, Cincinnati will have two really good lockdown cornerbacks in Awuzie and Taylor-Britt on the outside with Hilton at nickel cornerback. Cincinnati still needs depth at cornerback.
The 6-2 196 lb Rejzohn Wright is the younger brother of Nashon Wright. Rejzohn Wright started out at junior college prior to transferring to Oregon State.
Rejzohn Wright had 39 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, 52 total tackles, 8 deflections from pass breakups, 2 interceptions, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 quarterback hurries, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble at boundary cornerback in 2021. Rejzohn Wright moved over to field cornerback the following season where he had 24 solo tackles, 14 assistedd tackles, 38 total tackles, 9 deflections from pass breakups, 2 interceptions, 1 quarterback hurry, and 1 fumble recovery in 2022.
I gave Rejzohn Wright an A in man coverage, a C- grade in zone coverage, and an A+ grade in press coverage. Rezjohn Wright and Mekhi Blackmon are my favorite press coverage cornerbacks outside of Christian Gonzalez. Rejzohn Wright can play in a Cover 0, Cover 1, or Cover 2 scheme in the NFL.
Rejzohn Wright had a good week at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Rejzohn Wright did not work out at the 2023 NFL Combine
Carolina got a 2023 second, 2023 third, and 2023 fourth round pick from San Francisco in the Christian MccCaffrey trade. Carolina traded the 2023 second in this trade to Chicago. Carolina will use this final pick from the Christian McCaffrey trade to get a cornerback with Donte Jackson still not fully recovered from his season ending injury in 2022.
Jaycee Horn, Donte Jackson, and C.J. Henderson are an effective cornerback trio when Jackson is healthy and Henderson is playing nickel cornerback. Carolina wants to play Von Bell at strong safety and Xavier Woods at free safety with Carolina's best safety Jeremy Chinn rotating at 3-4 middle linebacker, nickel cornerback, and being used as a third safety. Carolina still needs depth at cornerback with Donte Jackson not 100 percent yet.
The 6-1 195 lb lb Alex Austin played boundary cornerback next to Rejzohn Wright at Oregon State. I would give Alex Austin an A- grade in man coverage, a B grade in zone coverage, and an A- in press coverage. He was more consistent than Rejzohn Wright at the 2023 NFL Combine and Oregon State's 2023 Pro Day despite being the number two boundary cornerback on Oregon State. That's why I mocked him at the end of the fourth round.
Chicago got this pick from Philadelphia in the Robert Quinn trade. Chicago uses this pick from Philadelphia to get another offensive tackle to push Larry Borom for the starting right tackle job.
The 6-5 323 lb Carter Warren has the pass blocking, pass blocking strength, pass blocking footwork, run blocking, run blocking strength, and run blocking footwork you want in an NFL left tackle. He interviewed well at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. The only reason, Warren dropped this far in the draft is because he got injured two games into his senior season after a dominant junior season at Pittsburgh.
Carter Warren interviewed well at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. He didn't practice or compete in the 2023 NFL Combine. He did interview and work out in front of NFL scouts at Pittsburgh's 2023 Pro Day. Carter Warren would make a good backup left tackle to Braxton Jones.
I posted a Carter Warren Interview from the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. You can click the link to listen to the Interview.
Kansas City has Jawaan Taylor as the starting left tackle, Lucas Niang as the starting right tackle, Prince Tega Wanagho was the swing tackle for Kansas City last year acting as both the backup left tackle as well as the backup right tackle when Andrew Wylie was injured, and Darrian Kinnard was the backup right tackle and number four offensive tackle on the roster. Both Lucas Niang and Prince Tega Wanagho enter contract years with Kansas City, so Kansas City will draft a backup left tackle to Jawaan Taylor with this pick.
The 6-5 298 lb Jaelyn Duncan Jaelyn Duncan did a nice job the last two years as a blindside left tackle to Taulia Tagovailoa. He also did a good job run blocking at right tackle for Maryland too when Anthony McFarland Jr. played running back for Maryland. He struggled in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl at executing blocks whiffing on way too many blocks in one-on-ones after Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy said he had a chance to be a 2023 first round pick with a strong showing back in January. The opposite happened with Duncan struggling in Mobile. Duncan's combine was okay, but not spectacular which is why Jaelyn Duncan is now a fourth round prospect despite having second round game film prior to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl.
Jaelyn Duncan played left tackle, center, and right tackle when he was at Maryland. Kansas City drafts him as the backup left tackle to Jawaan Taylor in the fourth round. It is possible that Jaelyn Duncan ends up as Kansas City's starting right tackle as early as 2024 if he can beat out Darrian Kinnard for the right tackle job since Kansas City has to renegotiate Creed Humphrey and Nick Bolton's contracts in a year from now while also having Niang and Tega Wanagho test Free Agency. That's why there will be a window of opportunity for Jaelyn Duncan as early as a year from now even if he doesn't play right away.
New England is projected to get this compensation pick at 135 for losing cornerback J.C. Jackson. J.C. Jackson signed a huge contract with the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.
New England's got one of the leagues oldest kickers in Nick Folk. Drafting the top kicker in the 2023 NFL Draft allows New England to reload with a young kicker.
The 6-0 207 lb Jake Moody made a career long 52 yard field goal in his junior season. Jake Moody went 23/25 on field goals and 56/56 on extra points getting 125 points before winning the Lou Groza Award in 2021. Jake Moody made a 59 yard field goal in his senior season. Jake Moody went 29/35 on field goals and went 60/60 on extra points being a Lou Groza Award finalist for the second year in a row in 2022.
Jake Moody made a 72 yard field goal during warm ups at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. Jake Moody was also the first kicker to win MVP honors at the East West Shrine Bowl as Jake Moody was the MVP of the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl.
I posted a Jake Moody Interview from the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. You can click the link to listen to the Interview.
