2023 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 5

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: April 27, 2023.

  1. Chicago Bears: Jalen Redmond, DT, Oklahoma

Chicago needs an upgrade at 4-3 defensive tackle. Jalen Redmond is the first defensive tackle that chicago can draft if they choose nto to reach from a value standpoint.

The 6-2 293 lb Jalen Redmond is a 4-3 defensive tackle. I was not as impressed with his game film as the Senior Bowl, but he's my top ranked defensive tackle on the board entering the fifth round.

  2. Buffalo Bills: Rashee Rice, WR, SMU

Buffalo drafts a wide receiver they can groom behind Gabriel Davis. Rashee Rice went to SMU which is the same alma matter as former Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley.

Rashee Rice may not be as tall as Gabriel Davis. He's been pretty consistent as he's been the lead receiver on SMU for the past two seasons. In fact, I had a second round grade on Rashee Rice, but some have him going in between rounds 1-5 in some mock drafts I've read with one mock having him in the first and one mock having him in the fifth. I had a second round grade on Rice, but he fell to the New York Jets in the third round.

The 6-0 200 lb Rashee Rice had 64 receptions, 670 receiving yards, and 9 receiving yards in 2021 as Rice led SMU in receiving yards even with future San Francisco 49ers 2022 draft pick Danny Gray on SMU. Rashee Rice had 96 receptions, 1,355 receiving yards, and 10 receivng touchdowns in 2022.

Rashee Rice's most impressive game in 2022 was a game against Maryland's cornerback tandem of Deonte Banks and Jakorian Bennett where Rashee Rice had 11 receptions for 193 receiving yards as Rice was fifth in receptions and third in receiving yards in 2022.

Buffalo has Stephon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, and Khalil Shakir whose been training with former Bills wide receiver Eric Moulds. Rashee Rice would be a good number four target for this offense in 2023. He could develop into a slot recceiver with shakr moving to the numbere two receiveer role once Buffalo moves on from Gabriel Davis.

  3. Indianapolis Colts: Deuce Vaughn, RB, Kansas State

Indianapolis gets another running back for depth. Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss enter contract years. Deuce Vaughn is a great replacement to Nyheim Hines.

Deuce Vaughn has the speed, pass catching, ball carrier vision, and pass blocking that you want in an NFL running back despite his size. New England can also use Deuce Vaughn as a return specialist if the Patriots want Marcus Jones to focus on just playing cornerback rather than returning kickoffs and punt returns. Matthew Slater is coming back next year too, so New England doesn't have to rush Deuce Vaughn into the lineup or on special teams as a return specialist yet.

The 5-5 179 lb Deuce Vaughn had 235 carries, 1,404 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, 49 receptions, 468 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns, 284 touches, 1,872 total yards, and 22 total touchdowns in 2021. Deuce Vaughn had 293 carries, 1,558 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 42 receptions, 378 receiving yards, 3 receiving touchdowns, 335 touches, 1,936 total yards, and 12 total touchdowns in 2022.

This is an insanely deep running back class. Deuce Vaughn has a shot to be a sleeper at running back despite his size.

  4. Denver Broncos: SirVocea Dennis, 3-4 MLB, Pittsburgh

Denver gets a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth behin dJosey Jewell and Alex Singleton. I had a fourth round graade on Pittsburgh linebacker SirVocea Dennis, but he fell to th fifth round.

The 6-0 218 lb SirVocea Dennis had 35 solo tackles, 52 assisted tackles, 87 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception in 2021. SirVocea Dennis had 42 solo tackles, 52 assisted tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 3 deflections from pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception in 2022.

SirVocea Dennis has the pass rushing and coverage you want from a 3-4 middle linebacker as a two year captain at Pittsburgh. He can win one on ones agaisnt offensive linemen with his speed and explosiveness. I'd like to see him improve as both a run stuffer and a blocker. He's got great communication skills and called plays on Pat Narduzzi's defense at Pittsburgh.

  5. Cleveland Browns: Isaiah Land, LOLB, Florida A&M

Cleveland drafts another 4-3 outside linebacker for depth. Isaiah Land can play 4-3 right outside linebacker or 4-3 left outside linebacker in the NFL with his versatility.

The 6-3 226 lb Isaiah Land gives Cleveland a fourth outside linebacker for depth. Cleveland would have Jeremiah Owosu-Koramoah at 4-3 right outside linebacker, Anthony Wallker Jr. at 4-3 middle linebacker, and Sione Takitaki at 4-3 left outside linebacker. Cleveland's backup linebackers would be Tony Fields II as the backup 4-3 right outside linebacker, Jack Campbell as the 4-3 middle linebacker, and Isaiah Land as the backup 4-3 left outside linebacker. Isaiah Land is good enough to beat out Jacob Phillips for a roster spot and if he doesn't the worst thing that could happen is he's either a third string outside linebacker or he spends his rookie season on Cleveland's practice squad for a year.

  6. Las Vegas Raiders: Jeremy Banks, LOLB, Tennessee

The Las Vegas Raiders draft a 4-3 left outisde linebacker. for depth. Jeremy Banks is versatile enough to play 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, nickel cornerback, dime cornerback, strong safety, free safety, and has been used as a third safety situationally. He can also play on special teams if needed.

The 6-1 225 lb Jeremy Banks had 59 solo tackles, 69 assisted tackles, 128 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 3 deflections from pass breakups, 3 quarterback hurries, and 1 interception in 2021. Jeremy Banks had 33 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 53 total tackles, 8 quarterback hurries, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 4 deflections from pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble in 2022.

Jeremy Banks intensity from 2021 to 2022 dropped. However he showed far more versatility in 2022. That versatility got him an invite to the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. Jeremy Banks also got an invite to the 2023 NFL Combine.

I posted a film cut of Tennessee linebacker Jeremy Banks VS Florida. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

  7. Cleveland Browns: Jerome Carvin, LG, Tennessee

Cleveland drafts a guard for depth here. Tennessee left guard Jerome Carvin showed the versatility to play center when practicing at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl and is my top guard on the board in the fifth round.

The 6-3 308 lb Jerome Carvin is versatile enough to play left guard, center, and right guard on the interior offensive line. Jerome Carvin has the pass blocking, pass blocking strength, pass blocking footwork, run blocking strength, run blocking footwork, and zone blocking you want in a left guard.

I posted a film cut of Tennessee's offensive line VS Florida. Left guard Jerome Carvin and right tackle Darnell Wright are the two offensive linemen to keep an eye on in this film cut. You can watch that film cut in the clip below.

I posted a Jerome Carvin Interview from the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. You can click the link to listen to the Interview.

  8. New York Jets: Keondre Coburn, DT, Texas

The Jets currently Quinnen Williams, last years backup Solomon Thomas, Quinton Jefferson a defensive lineman on Seattle as a backup, Isaiah Mack on a one year deal, and Tanzel Smart who spent the 2022 season on the Jets practice squad. I mocked Bowling Green defensive tackle Karl Brooks to the Jets in the fourth round because he might be an upgrade over Solomon Thomas. Keondre Coburn might be the fourth best defensive tackle among this group of guys with Williams, Karl Brooks, and Solomon Thomas being the top three defensive tackles on this depth chart.

New York drafts a second 4-3 defensive tackle for depth. Keondre Coburn is my top defensive tackle as Coburn can play both 4-3 defensive tackle and 3-4 nose tackle with his versatility.

The 6-1 344 lb Keondre Coburn is a great block shedder with good rip moves. He needs to develop his swim moves and currently projects as a two down player. He did command double teams at Texas. Quinnen Williams will command those double teams now and I got Bryan Bresse going in the first round. Solomon Thomas is back, so Coburn would be a reserve defensive tackle taht New York could stash and develop.

  9. Las Vegas Raiders: Andrew Vorhees, LG, USC

The 6-6 325 lb Andrew Vorhees is the most experienced starter on USC's offensive line. Andrew Vorhees is versatile enough to play left tackle, left guard, center, right guard, or right tackle. In fact, he may be the most versatile offensive lineman in the entire 2023 NFL Draft. I considered mocking him to the Buffalo Bills in the first round back in September when doing my very first mock draft because this is a guy whose just as effective in pass blocking, run blocking, and zone blocking as Matt Feiler who really stepped up for USC's offensive line after Alijah Vera-Tucker left.

Andrew Vorhees may have more upside than Alijah Vera-Tucker. However, he's 23-years-old, so he won't have as much time to reach his ceiling as Alijah Vera-Tucker did when the Jets drafted him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Andrew Vorhees is the only day 1 starter at guard outside of O'Cyrus Torrence as those two guards are the only guards that I can see developing into Pro Bowl guards from the 2023 NFL Draft. The downside is Andrew Vorhees tore his ACL at the 2023 NFL Combine.

Las Vegas drafts Andrew Vorhees. Next year, Las Vegas can move Dylan Parham back to right guard and play Vorhees at left guard upgrading both guard spots on their interior offensive line in the process.

  10. Carolina Panthers: Byron Young, 3-4 LOLB, Tennessee

Carolina gets a pass rusher for depth. Carolina needs someone to push Yetur-Gross Matos for the starting 3-4 left outside linebacker job. I honestly believe Tennessee edge rusher Byron Young might be the right player to pair with Brian Burns.

The 6-2 248 lb Byron Young had 22 solo tackles, 15 assisted tackles, 37 total tackles, 14 quarterback hurries, 12 tackles for a loss, and 7 sacks in 2022. Byron Young showed off his rip and swim moves at 3-4 right end. He also showed the explosive burst and first step quickness off the edge.

  11. New Orleans Saints: Xavier Hutchinson, WR, Iowa State

New Orleans gets a wide receiver to pair with Michael Thomas and Chris Olave. I love the idea of Xavier Hutchinson at this point in the fifth round if hes there.

The 6-1 207 lb Xavier Hutchinson had 83 receptions, 987 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2021 during Brock Purdy final season at Iowa State at quarterback as Hutchinson took pressure off of Brock Purdy and Iowa State running back Breece Hall. Xavier Hutchinson had 107 receptions, 1,171 receiving yards, and 6 receiving touchdowns without Purdy or Hall in 2022.

Xavier Hutchinson accepted an invite to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Xavier Hutchinson can run 15/30 routes on the route tree.

Xavier Hutchinson ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL Combine. Xavier Hutchinson did so well at Iowa State's 2023 Pro Day that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave Xavier positive body language pointing his body and feet at Hutchinson during his workout rather than pointing his feet away. That should be a green light to draft Iowa State's best wide receiver since Allen Lazard.

  12. Tennessee Titans: Daiyan Henley, 3-4 MLB, Washington State

Tennessee needs a 3-4 middle linebacker to start next to 2021 third round pick Monty Rice out of Georgia after losing both David Long Jr. to Miami and after moving on from Zach Cunningham. I got a fifth round grade on Washington State linebacker Daiyan Henley, but some have him going in day 2. I'm on the fence with Henley, but the co-host of my podcast believes he's got potential to be an NFL starter. Tennessee drafts Henley here out of desperation for a day 1 starter at 3-4 middle linebacker.

The 6-0 230 Daiyan Henley had 54 solo tackles, 52 assisted tackles, 106 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, 3 forced fumbles, 1 deflection from a pass breakup, and 1 fumble recovery in 2022. Henley also ran a 4.54 40 time at the 2023 NFL Combine while showcasing good athleticism on tape. Tennessee gambles on henley here hoping for a day 3 steal.

  13. Chicago Bears: Jaren Hall, QB, BYU

Chicago has their starting quarterback in Justin Fields. P.J. Walker did enough to earn the backup role. Right now Chicago's third stringer is last years third string quarterback Nate. Peterman. There are quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft that can beat out Nate Peterman for a roster spot in day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft and Chicago takes my best one here.

The 6-0 211 lb Jaren Hall is a good quarterback for Chicago to gamble on in the middle of the fifth round since I hae a fourth round grade on him. Jaren Hall can play in a balanced run first offense, a shotgun spread offense, or a vertical offense. The one offense he'll have trouble with is a west coast offense. I like Jaren Hall as a guy who can start out as the third string quarterback and develop into a viable backup to Justin Fields on a rookie deal.

Jaren Hall can make up to 5 progressions when throwing. That's the exact number of progressions Zach Wilson made at BYU. Jaren Hall also became a father before winning the BYU quarterback job after Zach Wilson. I see Desmond Ridder with Zach Wilson's ability to throw deep passes on the run when I watch BYU's Jaren Hall.

Jaren Hall had 3,171 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 346 rushing yardss, 3 rushing touchdowns, 3,517 total yards, 34 total touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in 2022. Jaren Hall's field vision and accuracy was inconsistent at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl as Jaren Hall threw interceptions in his first two days of practice during the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl.

  14. Green Bay Packers: Moro Ojomo, 3-4 LE, Texas

    Green Bay gets a 3-4 left end here. Moro Ojomo can play the 0-technique, 1-technique, 2-technique, 3-technique, 4-technique, 5-technique, 6-technique, 7-technique, 8-technique, and 9-technique.

The 6-2 293 lb Moro Ojomo is the perfect piece for Green Bay to add to their 3-4 defense. Green Bay would have Devonte Wyatt at 3-4 right end, Kenny Clark at 3-4 nose tackle, and Moro Ojomo at 3-4 left end. There's been some speculation about moving Tedarrell Slaton to nose tackle and switching Kenny Clark to 5-technique, but that's nonsense. Drafting Moro Ojomo allows you to keep Clark inside. Ojomo is also more versatile than Keondre Coburn as Ojobo has been used as an edge rusher as well as someone who can play 3-4 defensive end.

  15. Washington Commanders: Aidan O'Connell, QB, Purdue

Washington gets a quarterrback to learn under Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett for a year as the third stringer. Aidan O'Connell could be the backup to Sam Howell after this season if Washington does well enough.

The 6-3 212 lb Aidan O'Connell is my top quarterback on the board at this point in the fifth round. Aidan O'Connell and Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett are my top two quarterbacks on the board at this point.

Aidan O'Connell is younger and has more room for development. I saw Aidan O'Connell make up to four progressions when watching his film at Purdue. Aidan O'Connell also had 3,490 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Aidan O'Connell is a pure pocket quarterback. Think Brock Purdy without Brock Purdy's mobility, grit, and toughness. His leadership in the huddle is similar to Purdy though.

  16. Seattle Seahawks: Dorian Williams, 3-4 MLB, Tulane

Seattle drafts a project linebacker for depth that the Seahawks can groom for the future. Seattle has Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks as their 3-4 middle linebackers with Devin Bush for depth this year. One more linebacker for depth is needed.

The 6-0 228 lb Dorian Williams had 81 solo tackles, 50 assisted tackles, 131 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, 7 deflections from pass breakups, 5 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, 2 intereceptions, and 2 forced fumbles in 2022. Dorian Williams interviewed well at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl and then ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL Combine.

Dorian Williams has the pass rushing, run stuffing, man coverage, and zone coverage you want from an NFL middle linebacker. He can play 4-3 middle linebacker or 3-4 middle linebacker. The weakness with Williams is he needs to take better angles and struggles to win blocks despite beng a hard hitting linebacker who makes eye popping hits. I watched Williams when Central Florida defeated Tulane.

  17. Detroit Lions: Sidy Sow, LG, Eastern Michigan

The Detroit Lions get a guard for depth. Detroit Lions left guard Jonah Jackson and Detroit Lions right guard Graham Glasgow enter contract years. Backup guards Logan Stenberg and Halapoulivaati Vaitai are also in contract years. With all four of Detroit's guards in contract years, I have to believe Detroit will draft a guard at some point to develop for a year.

The 6-5 329 lb Sidy Sow was a two year starter at left guard for Eastern Michigan. Sidy Sow showed the versatility to play both left guard and right guard at the 2023 NFLPA Bowl from what Tony Mario told me. I feel like Sow needs to get stronger, but he's someone who might be able to develop into a starting guard down the road.

  18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chris Rodriguez Jr., RB, Kentucky

Tampa Bay gets a running back to compliment Rachaad White here. There's a few running backs I had third round grades on at one point that fell to the fifth round due to how deep this class is. My best running back on the board is Kentucky running back Chris Rodriguez Jr.

The 5-11 224 lb Chris Rodriguez Jr. had 225 carries, 1,379 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 13 receptions, 61 receiving yards, 3receiving touchdowns, 238 touches, 1,440 total yards, and 12 total touchdowns in 2021. Chris Rodriguez Jr. had 175 carries, 904 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns, 5 receptions, 41 receiving yards, 0 receiving touchdowns, 180 touches, 945 total yards, and 6 total touchdowns in 2022 after being suspended for the first four games of the season.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. did well enough to earn an invite to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Chris Rodriguez Jr. showed he could pass catch and pass block in Mobile despite what his production shows. He didn't work out at the 2023 NFL Combine, but did well at Kentucky's 2023 Pro Day.

  19. Seattle Seahawks: Will Mallory, TE, Miami FL

The Seattle Seahawks draft a tight end here. There's a tight end on the board who may have a higher ceiling than Will Dissly, Noah Fant, and Colby Parkinson as crazy as that sounds. That's why Seattle drafts a tight end here.

The 6-4 239 lb Will Mallory had 42 receptions, 538 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Will Mallory dominated the one-on-ones against Pittsburgh strong safety Brandon Hill with 9 receptions, 103 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown despite Pittsburgh defeating Miami FL 42-16. He can make acrobatic catches.

Will Mallory was also in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Will Mallory ran a 4.54 40-yard dash and did 20 reps on the bench press at the 2023 NFL Combine.

Will Mallory ran 24/30 routes on the route tree, has the pass catching, pass blocking, run blocking, acts as a third offensive tackle, jumping, can make spectacular catches, acrobatic catches, and catches in traffic. He did struggle in double coverage. He doesn't run as many routes on the route tree as Michael Mayer, Darnell Washington, Dalton Kincaid, Luke Musgrave, Sam LaPorta, Payne Durham, Tucker Kraff, Noah Gindorff, or Cameron Latu. However, you can argue that Mallory runs with more acceleration when breaking his routes despite being the tenth best route runner out of fifteen tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft. Garrett Wilson the top receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft ran exactly 24/30 routes on the route tree.

Noah Fant and Colby Parkinson enter contract years. Will Mallory is good enough to beat out Parkinson for the third string tight end job. At the very worst, you can develop him for a year before he takes over as the backup tight end to Will Dissly in 2024. Honestly, Will Mallory has enough upside to be the staritng tight end on the Seattle Seahawks by 2025 when Will Dissly's contract expires.

  20. San Francisco 49ers: C.J. Johnson, WR, East Carolina

San Francisco uses this pick from Miami in the Trey Lance trade to get a slot receiver. Brandon Aiyuk is a good number two wide receiver, but if San Francisco cannot retain him to save cap space, they could draft a wide receiver to groom for a year or two until his rookie deal is up. My top wide receiver available is East Carolina wide receiver C.J. Johnson.

The 6-2 222 lb lb C.J. Johnson had 67 receptions, 1,016 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2022. C.J. Johnson has great speed and can be an effective deep threat that motivates and enhances the quality of talent in San Francisco's wide receiver room.

Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud, Danny Gray, and C.J. Johnson would all compete for the slot receiver job. C.J. Johnson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft and did not run the 40 at the 2023 NFL Combine. His tape and talent speaks for itself and he's the one guy left on the board who could develop into a viable replacement for Brandon Aiyuk if Aiyuk opted to test Free Agency after his rookie deal.

  21. Los Angeles Chargers: Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State

The Los Angeles Chargers have Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Josh Palmer under contract. I believe Los Angeles will draft another wide receiver for depth and Jayden Reed is the top wide receiver on my board at this point in the fifth round.

The 5-10 191 lb lb Jayden Reed had 59 receptions,, 1,026 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2021. Jayden Reed had 55 receptions, 636 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Jayden Reed did well at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl dominating on day 1 and having a strong second day. Reed ran a 4.45 40-time at the 2023 NFL Combine. Jayden Reed's 2022 film wasn't as good as his 2021 tape, but he's been too consistent throughout the draft process to go undrafted. The Chargers add Jayden Reed for depth here.

  22. Baltimore Ravens: Kendre Miller, RB, TCU

The Baltimore Ravens draft a running back for depth here. Both J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards enter contract years. Kendre Miller is a steal at this point in the fifth round.

The 5-11 215 lb Kendre Miller had 224 carries, 1,399 rushing yards, 17 rushing touchdowns, 16 receptions, 116 receiving yards, 0 receiving touchdowns, 240 touches, 1,515 total yards, and 17 total touchdowns in 2022.

I had a third round grade on Kendre Miller prior to the 2023 NFL Combine. He didn't work out at the 2023 NFL Combine. However this is fantastic value for Kendre Miller in the fifth round.

  23. Minnesota Vikings: Mark Evans II, LG, Arkansas Pine Bluff

Minnesota drafts a guard for depth here. Arkansas Pine Bluff left tackle Mark Evans II is versatile enough to play left tackle, left guard, right guard, and right tackle with his versatility.

The 6-2 293 lb Mark Evans II kicked inside to guard at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. He looked good during practices at the East West Shrine Bowl. He is someone who can start out as a swing guard to left guard Ezra Cleveland and right guard Ed Ingram.

  24. Detroit Lions: Andrei Iosivas, WR, Princeton

Detroit adds a wide receiver for depth. Amon Ra-St. Brown and Jameson Williams are the top two wide receivers, but Williams is getting suspended the first six games in 2023 for gambling. Kalif Raymond, Josh Reynolds, and Marvin Jones are competing for the slot receiver job in contract years as well as the number two receiver job for the first six games of 2023 with Williams getting suspended. Quinton Cephus also got released from Detroit for gambling. Detroit adds one more wide receiver to this competition who may be able to start as Detroti's slot receiver as early as 2024.

The 6-2 212 lb Andrei Iosivas had 66 receptions, 943 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns. Iosivas led Princeton to an 8-0 start before Princeton lost to Yale and Penn to end the season by finishing third in the Ivy League Conference in 2022. All three Ivy league teams finished 8-2, but Yale's 6-1 conference record got them the conference while Penn owned the head-to-head tiebreaker over Yale.

Andrei Iosivas rebounded with a solid, but not spectacular showing at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Andrei Iosivas ran a 4.43 40-yard dash time and did 19 reps on the bench press at the 2023 NFL Combine. Iosivas has been consistent throughout the draft process and Detroit decides to gamble on Iosivas in the fifth round.

  25. New York Giants: Devon Achane, RB, Texas A&M

New York gets a running back for depth here. Devon Achane has the speed, pass catching, and ball carrier vision. His pass blocking on film needs improvement. If you look past Achane's pass blocking you can make a case for him on day 2 rather than the fifth round.

The 5-8 188 lb Devon Achane learned behind Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller for two seasons. Achane took over for Spiller in 2022.

Devon Achane had 196 carries, 1,102 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 36 receptions, 196 receiving yards, 3 receiving touchdowns, 232 touches, 1,298 total yards, and 11 total touchdowns in 2022. After Devon Achane declared for the 2023 NFL Draft, he ran a 4.32 40 time at the 2023 NFL Combine.

Devon Achane isn't an upgrade over Saquon Barkley. However you can argue he's better than Matt Breida who happens to be in a contract year with the New York Giants.

  26. Houston Texans: Warren McClendon, RT, Georgia

Houston got this pick from Dallas in the trade that sent Brandin Cooks to Dallas. I gave Houston a right tackle that Houston can develop behind Tytus Howard.

The 6-4 290 lb Warren McClendon has the pass blocking, pass blocking footwork, run blocking, run blocking strength, and run blocking footwork. Warren McClendon needs to improve his pass blocking strength, but he can develop that in Houston by learning under 2019 first round pick Tytus Howard for a year.

Warren McClendon Jr. also known as Warren McClendon declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. Warren McClendon also participated in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl.

  27. Indianapolis Colts: Parker Washington, WR, Penn State

Indianapolis got this pick from Buffalo in the Nyheim Hines trade. I'm giving Indianapolis a potential replacement to Parris Campbell this late in the draft.

The 5-10 212 lb Parker Washington did well as a number two target next to Jahan Dotson with 64 receptions, 820 receiving yards, and 4 receiving touchdowns in 2021. He struggled to live up to the hype with 46 receptions, 611 receiving yards, and 2 receviing touchdowns in 2022 despite being the cover player for the Athlon Sports magazine I bought. The bottom line is someone will gamble on him in the fifth round and I believe that team will be the Indianapolis Colts.

  28. Cincinnati Bengals: Jake Bobo, WR, UCLA

Cincinnati has every wide receiver outside of Ja'Marr Chase in a contract year. Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, Trent Irwin, Trent Taylor, and Stanley Morgan are all in contract years. I think Cincinnati will make an attempt to lock up Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins long-term. Cincinnati also has an RFA tender they can use on Trent Irwin. That means Cincinnati will draft a wide receiver to develop for a year. Then that receiver would compete with Trent IRwin for the slot receiver job in 2024. I have Cincinnati drafting another big body target here late in the fifth round.

The 6-4 216 lb Jake Bobo had 5 receptions, 817 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Jake Bobo became UCLA's number one wide receiver for Dorian Thompson-Robinson after Kyle Philips left UCLA and got drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jake Bobo is not fast. He cnn run 15/30 routes on the route tree to make up for this. He's also a decent blocker on running plays. Pairing him in the slot with Chase, Higgins, and Boyd.

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Zack Kuntz, TE, Old Dominion

San Francisco drafts a backup tight end for depth behind George Kittle. Old Dominion tight end Zack Kuntz had the best relative athletic score of any tight end in the NFL Draft dating back to 1987.

The 6-7 251 lb Zack Kuntz had 73 receptions, 692 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns in 2021. Zack Kuntz only had 12 receptions, 144 receiving yards, and 2 receiving touchdowns in 2022. Zack Kuntz ran 17/30 routes on the route tree when watching him on one of his 2022 games on film against Virginia prior to suffering a season ending injury.

Zack Kuntz was at the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. Zack Kuntz ran a 4.55 40 Yard Dash and Zack Kuntz also did 23 reps on the bench press at the 2023 NFL Combine.

  30. New Orleans Saints: Mohamoud Diabate, LOLB, Utah

The New Orleans Saints use this pick from Philadelphia to get a 4-3 left outside linebacker for depth here. My top outside linebacker on the board is Utah linebacker Mohamoud Diabate.

The 6-3 229 lb Mohamoud Diabate would replace Kaden Eliss here. Mohamoud Diabate was one of my top players that did not get an invite to the 2023 NFL Combine despite playing in the 2023 East West Shrine Game.

  31. Kansas City Chiefs: Mohamed Ibrahim, RB, Minnesota

Kansas City grabs a third running back for depth. Right now Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are the only running backs from Kansas City's Super Bowl 57 Team. One more running back for depth is needed. Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim is the top running back on the board in the fifth round.

The 5-7 203 lb Mohamed Ibrahim had 320 carries, 1,665 rushiing yards, 20 rushing touchdowns, 7 receptions, 50 receiving yards, 327 touches, 1,705 total yards, 0 receiving touchdowns, and 20 total touchdowns in 2022.

  32. Los Angeles Rams: Adam Korsak, P, Rutgers

Los Angeles is projected to get this compensation pick at 167 for losing 4-3 right end Von Miller. Von Miller signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

The Los Angeles Rams draft a punter. Both the current starters at kicker and punter are unrestricted Free Agents.

The 6-0 185 lb Adam Korsak kicked a punt 70 yards in 2022. Adam Korsak is the top punter in the 2023 NFL Draft and accepted an invite to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl.

  33. Arizona Cardinals: Garrett Williams, CB, Syracuse

Arizona is projected to get this compensation pick at 168 for losing 4-3 right end Chandler Jones. Chandler Jones signed a three year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2022 NFL Free Agency period.

The 6-0 188 lb Garrett Williams had 54 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, 64 total tackles, 12 deflections from pass breakups, 3 tackles for a loss, and 2 interceptions as a freshman redshirt in 2020. Garrett Williams had 36 solo tackles, 16 assisted tackles, 52 total tackles, 10 deflections from pass breakups, and 5 tackles for a loss as a sophomore redshirt in 2021.

I gave Garrett Williams an A+ grade in man coverage, a C grade in zone coverage, and a C grade in press coverage after watching his 2021 tape. He can cover in a cover 0, cover 1, or cover 2 coverage scheme. This guy was amazing locking down wide receivers in man coverage for Syracuse against both Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham and Liberty quarterback Malik Willis who got drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was flawless against Willis while struggling in plays where his coaches called zone and press coverage against Louisville.

Garrett Williams had 25 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 36 total tackles, 3 deflections from pass breakups, 2 interceptions which came against Malik Cunningham/Brennan Armstrong, 1.5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery in 7 games played in 2022. Syracuse was 6-0 in the games he started before getting injured in the sixth game. After sitting out against Clemson to recover from his injury, he played the following week against Notre Dame not fully healhty before getting injured again in a game where Notre Dame beat Syracuse before Garrett Williams was ruled out for the season. Williams declared for the 2023 NFL Draft as a junior redshirt once he was ruled out.

I gave Garrett Williams an A+ grade in man coverage, a C+ grade in zone coverage because his backpedal looked a lot faster despite still needing to become more consistent in this area, and an A- in press coverage as Williams improved his press coverage more than any part of his game in 2022 when watching his tape. His run stuffing needs to improve and sometimes Williams doesn't display the closing speed to keep up with wide receiver. There were plays on tape where Purdue wide receiver Charlie Jones absolutely carved Williams in coverage despite the fact that Williams held his own against him too. He can play cover 0, cover 1, and cover 2 and he looks like he may be able to play cover 3 and cover 4 in the NFL despite the fact that zone coverage is his biggest weakness in coverage compared to his ability to play man and press. The only question is can he stay healthy in the NFL after his season ending injury.

Garrett Williams didn't work out at the 2023 NFL Combine or the Syracuse 2023 Pro Day. Teams told him to take it easy in the recovery process of his injury. Arizona is a team that needs mutliple cornerback upgrades, so they can gamble on Garrett Williams in the late part of the fifth round.

  34. Dallas Cowboys: Andre Szmyt, K, Syracuse

Dallas is projected to get this compensation pick at 169 for losing 3-4 right outside linebacker Randy Gregory to the Denver Broncos during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

Dallas must draft.a kicker after the Brett Maher debacle. Syracuse kicker Andre Szmyt impressed me in person at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl.

The 6-1 199 lb Andre Szmyt took the College Football world by storm as a freshman redshirt in 2018 going 30/34 on field goals, 61/61 on extra point attempts, and making a long 54 yard field goal en route to winning the Lou Groza Award as a freshman redshirt in 2018. Andre Szmyt went 17/20 on field goals, 39/40 on extra points, and made a 50 yard field goal in 2019. Andre Szmyt went 9/11 on field goals and 23/24 on extra points in 2020. Andre Szmyt went 9/14 on field goals and 36/38 on field goals in 2021 which influenced him to return to Syracuse for one more season thanks to his extra year of eligibility for Covid-19. Andre Szmyt went 20/26 on field goals, 40/40 on extra points, and made a 54 yard field goal in 2022. He also made 5 field goals in one game for Syracuse this season.

Jake Moody is the best kicker in ths draft. After Moody, my top kicker based off of field goals and kickoffs would be Syracuse kicker Andre Szmyt.

  35. New York Jets: Daniel Scott, FS, California

Green Bay is projected to get this compensation pick at 170 for losing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period. Green Bay traded this pick to New York in the Aaron Rodgers trade.

California safety Daniel Scott is the oldest safety in the 2023 NFL Draft. Daniel Scott is 25-years-old.

The 6-0 210 lb Daniel Scott showed the versatility to play both strong safety and free safety versus Notre Dame. I gave Daniel Scott an A- in man coverage, an A grade in zone coverage, and a B+ in press coverage. He might be the most consistent safety on film outside of Boise State safety JL Skinner. He's great at stopping the run too. I can see why Dallas Cowboys owner Andrew Kermish took him in the third round in our private group mock on Facebook.

Daniel Scott participated in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. He also ran a 4.45 40-yard dash and jumped a 39.5 inch vertical at the 2023 NFL Combine.

New York now has Jordan Whitehead at strong safety, Ashtyn Davis at free safety, Chuck Clark as their backup strong safety, and Daniel Scott as their backup free safety. Whitehead, Davis, and Clark are all in contract years while Daniel Scott can start at safety for New York as early as 2024 with a similar developmental path as his predecessor Ashtyn Davis who also played safety at California.

  36. Los Angeles Rams: Christopher Dunn, K, North Carolina State

Los Angeles is projected to get this compensation pick at 171 for losing right guard Austin Corbett. Austin Corbett signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

The Los Angeles Rams draft a kicker. Both the current starters at kicker and punter are unrestricted Free Agents.

The 5-8 179 lb Christopher Dunn went 28/29 on field goals and 30/30 on extra points en route to winning the 2022 Lou Groza Award. Christopher Dunn struggled with kickoffs and keeping the football in bounds against Clemson. He's money with extra points and field goals though.

I posted a film cut of North Carolina State kicker Christopher Dunn VS Clemson. Christopher Dunn won the 2022 Lou Groza Award this season.

  37. New York Giants: Stetson Bennett, QB, Georgia

New York is projected to get this compensation pick at 172 for losing tight end Evan Engram. Evan Engram signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

New York drafts a quarterback to compete with Tyrod Taylor to be the New York Giants backup quarterback to Daniel Jones here.

Stetson Bennett won back-to-back Championships at Georgia. He would do well as a third string quarterback for the New York Giants here.

The 5-11 192 lb Stetson Bennett had 2,862 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, a 64.5% completion percentage, and 7 interceptions when leading Georgia to their first Championship in 2021. Stetson Bennett had 4,127 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, a 68.3% completion percentage, and 7 interceptions in 2022. Stetson Bennett was the quarterback on Georgia's Football team when they won the 2021 College Football Playoff and the 2022 College Football Playoff when Georgia went 4-0 in those four Playoff Games.

Stetson Bennett completed a 1-step, 3-step, 5-step, and 7-step throw on film. Bennett has the footwork, mobility, and ability to extend plays when throwing on the run. He's not a scrambler, but can take off and run if needed. I want to see Bennett improve his progressions, but he's a good decision maker.

  38. San Francisco 49ers: Anthony Bradford, RG, LSU

San Francisco is projected to get this compensation pick at 173 for losing former 3-4 nose tackle D.J. Jones. D.J. Jones signed a contract with the Denver Broncos during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

San Franncisco adds a guard for depth here. LSU's Anthony Bradford is versatile enough to play left tackle, left guard, right guard, and right tackle. Bradford's best used at right guard. He could be a really good backup to Spencer Burford.

The 6-4 332 lb Anthony Bradford had the second highest relative athletic score of any guard in the 2023 NFL Draft. He's a great value pick for Las Vegas in the fifth round.

  39. Las Vegas Raiders: Yaya Diaby, RE, Louisville

Las Vegas is projected to get this compensation pick at 174 for losing former wide receiver Zay Jones. Zay Jones signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

Las Vegas adds a defensive end for depth behind Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby to replace Clellin Ferrell. Yaya Diaby is my top pass rusher on the board at this point in the fifth round.

The 6-3 264 lb Yaya Diaby had 22 solo tackles, 15 assisted tackles, 37 total tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 9 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, and 2 deflections from pass breakups in 2022. Yaya Diaby also ran a 4.51 40 time at the 2023 NFL Combine.

  40. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Corey Trice, CB, Purdue

Tampa Bay is projected to get this compensation pick at 175 for losing former strong safety Jordan Whitehead. Jordan Whitehead signed a contract with the New York Jets during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

Tampa Bay has Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean, and Zyon McCollum as their top three cornerbacks for next season with Sean Bunting-Murphy gone. Tampa Bay drafs another cornerback for depth and my top cornerback left is Purdue cornerback Corey Trice who was Purdue's number one cornerback the last two years.

The 6-3 215 lb Corey Trice can play man, zone, and press effectively. He needs to improve his speed and techinique. Corey Trice had 28 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 34 total tackles, 10 deflections from pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and 2 tackles for a loss in 2022.

I gave Corey Trice an A- grade in man coverage, a B- grade in zone coverage, and a A+ grade in press coverage as Trice didn't give up a single reception on 7 different plays where Trice played press coverage in 2022. Corey Trice did well during the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. He also ran a 4.47 40 Yard Dash time and did 17 reps on the bench press. Trice also has 32 inch arms and 10 inch hands to go with his big physical frame. That and two years of experience as Purdue's number one cornerback makes him a bargain this late in the fifth round.

  41. Indianapolis Colts: Shaka Heyward, ROLB, Duke

Dallas is projected to get this compensation pick at 176 for losing former left guard Connor Williams. Connor Williams signed witht he Miami Dolphins as a center during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period. Dallas traded this pick to the Indianapolis Colts when acquiring cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Indianapolis gets a replacement to Bobby Okerke. Duke linebacker Shaka Heyward is a great addition for the Indianapolis Colts at 4-3 right outside linebacker as an outside linebacker.

The 6-2 239 lb Shaka Heyward is the cousin of Pittsburgh Steelers brothers Cameron and Connor Heyward. New England's linebacker coach used the word perfect to describe Shaka Heyward during a play at the 2023 East West Shrine Bowl. Heyward ran a 4.53 40 time and did 23 reps on the bench press at the 2023 NFL Combine.

Shaka Heyward had 49 solo tackles, 45 assisted tackles, and 94 total tackles in 2022. He's worth gambling on as he had 11.5 tackles for a loss in 2021 before posting slightly less total tackles in 2022 after having 98 in 2021.

  42. Los Angeles Rams: Malik Cunningham, QB, Louisville

Los Angeles is projected to get this compensation pick at 177 for losing 3-4 right end Sebastian Joseph-Day. Sebastian Joseph-Day signed a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2022 NFL Free Agency Period.

The 5-11 188 lb Malik Cunningham had 2,941 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, 1,031 rushing yards, 20 rushing touchdowns, 3,972 total yards, 39 total touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in 2021. Malik Cunningham had 1,568 passing yards, 8 passing touchdowns, 565 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 2,133 total yards, 20 total touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 2022.

I saw Malik Cunningham make up to 5 progressions when staying in the pocket passing the football in 2021, but he only made one read in 2022. Lamar Jackson was able to make 6 progressions at Louisville during his Heisman winning season. Malik Cunningham can play in a shotgun spread offense, a balanced run first offense, or a vertical offense. I felt like Lamar Jackson could play in all three of those offenses, plus the West Coast offense.

Malik Cunningham did well enough to get promoted from the NFLPA Bowl to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl by showing NFL teams at the NFLPA Bowl he could make up to five reads during practice despite being the starting quarterback on the losing team in the 2023 NFLPA Bowl. Malik Cunningham's accuracy was off in Mobile during practices with Cunningham underthrowing some passes too. Cunningham rebounded at the 2023 NFL Combine as Cunningham was the only quarterback to not throw an incomplete pass during the entire 2023 NFL Combine. Every pass Malik Cunningham threw at the 2023 NFL Combine was a completion.

Los Angeles needs a backup to Matthew Stafford with Baker Mayfield gone. The Los Angeles Rams select Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham in the fifth round.
