Chris Ransom grades the Dallas Cowboys 2015 NFL Draft. Dallas took cornerback Byron Jones with the 27th overall pick.
27. Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut A+ Grade
Dallas had a huge need at cornerback and addressed that need with a great pick. Jones will do a great job across from Brandon Carr as a #2 boundary cornerback.
60. Randy Gregory, ROLB, Nebraska A+ Grade
Randy Gregory has the versatility to play right end or left end in a 4-3. Gregory has the size of an outside linebacker and projects better as an outside linebacker in the NFL. Gregory can play on either side at outside linebacker.
Heading into Training Camp, Gregory is the starting right outside linebacker with Rolando McClain at middle linebacker and Sean Lee making the move from middle linebacker to left outside linebacker.
91. Chaz Green, RT, Florida B- Grade
Chaz Green will be a good backup right tackle to Doug Free. Way to replace Jeremy Parnell Dallas.
127. Damien Wilson, MLB, Minnesota C Grade
Damien Wilson is listed as a backup middle linebacker on the depth chart. If Rolando McClain gets injured, Wilson has to step in.
163. Ryan Russell, LE, Purdue B+ Grade
Ryan Russell will start out as a backup left end this season with Greg Hardy's suspension. When Hardy returns Russell will get moved down to third string. Hopefully by then Russell has done enough to convince Dallas that Jeremy Mincey is a complete disgrace.
236. Mark Nzeocha, LOLB, Wyoming B- Grade
Mark Nzeocha is a good backup left outside linebacker. He will have to step up if Sean Lee gets injured for the third year in a row.
243. Laurence Gibson, LT, Virginia Tech C Grade
Laurence Gibson is the backup left tackle on this depth chart. Gibson will step in if Tyron Smith goes down with an injury.
246. Geoff Swaim, TE, Texas D Grade
I get that Dallas drafted local Longhorn Geoff Swaim. When you already have Jason Witten, Gavin Escobar, and James Hanna as a third stringer, I don't understand how this pick makes any sense.
Dallas Cowboys Team Grade: B+ Grade
Dallas found a cornerback in Byron Jones and addressed the offensive line. Getting a starting left guard in La'El Collins and two offensive tackles for depth in Laurence Gibson and Chaz Green was exactly what Dallas needed in the trenches on offense.
An inability to draft a defensive tackle, running back, or quarterback is why the Cowboys got a B+ grade instead of an A- grade.
