Morgan Epstein grades the Jacksonville Jaguars 2016 NFL Draft. Does Jacksonville have a bright future after drafting Jalen Ramsey with the fifth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?
5. Jalen Ramsey, CB, Florida State A+ Grade
Jalen Ramsey is currently slotted into a nickel cornerback role. He will probably be the #1 field cornerback on the Jaguars in 2017.
36. Myles Jack, LOLB, UCLA A+ Grade
Myles Jack is expected to start at 4-3 left outside linebacker. That's the perfect spot for Jack to start out and he may move to middle linebacker when Paul Posluszney moves on from the Jaguars.
If Higbee pans out this will be a great pick. Releasing Lance Kendricks saves the Rams $4-million dollars and with no dead cap counting against Kendricks Salary Cap, Higbee could be the #1 tight end if he keeps his head on straight assuming he ceases his opportunity when the Rams put him on the field, but for now he will begin his career as the #2 tight end on the depth chart.
69. Yannick Ngakoue, ROLB, Maryland A Grade
Yannick Ngakoue was a sack artist at Maryland. Having him as a right outside linebacker for depth where Telvin Smith plays is great insurance for the Jaguars which is why this pick got an A grade.
103. Sheldon Day, DT, Notre Dame A Grade
Sheldon Day makes a lot of sense here. Adding Day as a third string defensive tackle was a solid pick in the fourth round. I think he's certainly more qualified to be a backup than Tyson Alualu, but the Jaguars may want Day to add some weight to get up to around 300 lbs by adding that muscle.
Day was a second to third round pick at one point. That's why getting him at 103 is easily an A grade here.
181. Tyrone Holmes, LE, Montana A Grade
Tyrone Holmes is another sack artist at 4-3 left end. He should have no time coming in and providing a depth role as a third string 4-3 left end.
201. Brandon Allen, QB, Arkansas A Grade
Brandon Allen began OTA's as the fourth string quarterback on this roster. Allen has already moved up to third string and is doing so well that he's challenging Chad Henne for the Jaguars backup quarterback job. I'm excited to see what Allen does which is why this is a great pick.
226. Jonathan Woodard, RE, Cent. Arkansas A Grade
Central Arkansas defensive end Jonathan Woodard will be a 4-3 right end for depth as a third string 4-3 right end. Woodard was a guy that warranted a late round flyer, so I like this pick in the seventh round.
Jacksonville Jaguars Team Grade: A+ Grade
Jacksonville easily had the best draft of all the 2016 teams. You could make a case that they are the only team worthy of an A+ grade among the 32 NFL teams that drafted.
