The Carolina Panthers re-signed Luke Kuechly to a five-year $62-million dollar deal which will keep him in Carolina through the next six seasons. Luke Kuechly blossomed at Boston College which allowed him to get drafted ninth overall back in 2012, but he really came into his own once he arrived with Carolina to play for the Panthers.

Luke Kuechly posted 164 total tackles as a rookie which helped him win NFL Defensive Rookie Of The Year in 2012. He followed that up with 156 total tackles in his second season while posting 4 interceptions and the NFL's second best run defense which allowed him to win NFL Defensive Player Of The Year. The only other player to ever win NFL Defensive Rookie Of The Year and NFL Defensive Player Of The Year in his first two seasons was Lawrence Taylor.

Kuechly only posted 153 total tackles in 2014. He made up for it with 12 pass deflections after getting 7 pass deflections in 2013. Kuechly is a complete middle linebacker that can rush the quarterback, stop the running game by tackling your running back, or he can drop back into coverage.

Giving quarterback Cam Newton and the 6-3 238 lb Kuechly contract extensions was the one thing the Panthers needed to do heading into this season. Now Carolina has a five year window of opportunity to win a Championship. Even if the Panthers, don't win the Super Bowl in the next five years, something tells me they will be playing in the big game on Super Bowl Sunday before 2020.
