Morgan Epstein grades the Minnesota Vikings 2016 NFL Draft. Does Minnesota have a bright future after drafting Laquon Treadwell with the twenty third pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?
13. Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss A+ Grade
Laquon Treadwell may be the best receiver the Vikings have drafted since Randy Moss. Look for Treadwell to assert himself as the #1 receiver target on this roster right away.
54. Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson B Grade
Mackensie Alexander is a quarter cornerback on the Vikings depth chart. His role will expand over time with Terrance Newman and Captain Munnerlyn getting older. Minnesota may make him a nickel corner to first round picks Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes in 2017.
121. Willie Beavers, LG, Western Michigan D Grade
Willie Beavers is a third string left guard. He's not someone that will start right away. Beavers may get promoted to backup left guard by the end of the season though.
160. Kentrell Brothers, MLB, Missouri F Grade
Kentrell Brothers is a third string middle linebacker on the Minnesota Vikings. Brothers wasn't going to start after Kendricks awesome rookie year. That still doesn't change the fact that this pick would have received a higher draft grade if Brothers was a backup to Kendricks rather than a third string middle linebacker.
180. Moritz Bohringer, WR, Schwabisch Hall F Grade
The Vikings took the German receiver Moritz Bohringer. The 6-4 227 lb receiver is a big physical target. The problem is he's the #8 receiver on the Vikings depth chart.
188. David Morgan II, TE, UTSA F Grade
Minnesota used this pick on a fourth string tight end. If this were a third string tight end to Kyle Rudolph and Mycole Pruitt, I could live with that. This is a fourth string tight end though so this is another reach in my opinion.
227. Stephen Weatherly, RE, Vanderbilt D Grade
Everson Griffen is a good starting 4-3 right end. Danielle Hunter is a good backup 4-3 right end. Weatherly will be a third string 4-3 right end. I think that's the right fit for Weatherly if they move him back to the defensive line.
244. Jayron Kearse, SS, Clemson B- Grade
Jayron Kearse is expected to be a backup strong safety in Minnesota. Eventually over time, once he matures, he may start across from Harrison Smith at strong safety.
Minnesota Vikings Team Grade: C Grade
Minnesota had an okay draft. They got an immediate starter in Laquon Treadwell and also added a few extra contributors with their remaining picks.
