Morgan Epstein grades the New England Patriots 2016 NFL Draft. Does New England have a bright future after drafting Cyrus Jones with the sixtieth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?
60. Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama A Grade
New England needed a nickel corner to compliment Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan. They got their man in Cyrus Jones who covers like a Pro Bowler against slot receivers in coverage, but is undersized.
78. Joe Thuney, RG, North Carolina St. C Grade
North Carolina State offensive lineman Joe Thuney has the versatility to play left tackle, left guard, center, right guard, or right tackle with his versatility. Thuney is listed as a third string right tackle in New England.
91. Jacoby Brissett, QB, North Carolina St. A Grade
North Carolina State quarterback Jacoby Brissett doesn't have the best stats. He reminds me of Randall Cunningham when I watch his tape and he will get a chance if Garoppolo screws up.
96. Vincent Valentine, DT, Nebraska D Grade
Vincent Valentine is a third string defensive tackle. He has the versatility to play 4-3 defensive tackle and 3-4 nose tackle which is the only reason the Patriots didn't get an F grade here.
112. Malcolm Mitchell, WR, Georgia F Grade
There were expectations that Malcolm Mitchell may be New England's slot receiver. He's the #7 receiver on the Patriots depth chart right now.
208. Kamu Hill, MLB, Eastern Illinois F Grade
New England wasted this pick on Kamu Grugier-Hill who is great in coverage, but is not a run stuffer. They made it pretty clear that they didn't want to draft anybody after the top 75 players on their board were gone.
214. Elandon Roberts, MLB, Houston F Grade
Elandon Roberts is a tackling machine. He struggles in coverage and is a pure inside linebacker. New England may move him to outside linebacker which is why the Patriots got an F grade for this pick.
221. Ted Karras, LG, Illinois F Grade
Ted Karras was a right guard at Illinois. The Patriots have him as a third string left guard.
225. Devin Lucien, WR, Arizona State F Grade
Devin Lucien is probably going to get cut in Training Camp. He's the #8 receiver on the Patriots depth chart at the moment.
New England Patriots Team Grade: D Grade
New England had a horrible draft that warranted a D grade. The Cyrus Jones and Jacoby Brissett picks were great picks in my opinion and those selections keep the Patriots from receiving an F grade. You can never question the coaching genius of Bill Belichick, but you have to question the Patriots 2016 NFL Draft picks.
