2022 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds

Round 4

Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: April 28, 2022.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Cole Strange, C, Chattanooga

The 6-4 304 lb Cole Strange is versatile enough to play left tackle, left guard, center, right guard, and right tackle. His best fits are at left guard and center, but with Jacksonville currently having Ben Bartch and Will Richardson competing for the left guard job, its most likely that Strange ends up being a day 1 starter at center if he slipped to Jacksonville in the fourth round.

  2. Houston Texans: Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State

Houston drafts a second cornerback to pair with their 2022 second round pick Roger McCreary here giving Houston Roger McCreary at field cornerback, Steven Nelson at boundary cornerback, and Zyon McCollum at nickel cornerback to pair with safeties Kyle Hamilton and Lewis Cine. The 6-2 202 lb Zyon McCollum checks off every box athletically versatile enough to play field cornerback, boundary cornerback, nickel cornerback, strong safety, and free safety. He ran a 4.33 40-time and did 14 reps on the bench press at the 2022 NFL Combine.

I gave Zyon McCollum an A grade in man coverage, a B grade in zone coverage, an a B- in press coverage. Sam Houston State mainly limited him to a man coverage role, so that's more on the coaching staff than him. McCollum showed he can play zone when lining up at safety on some reps at the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl during practice sessions. He still has trouble wrapping up tackles, but he makes up for this by putting his body on the line to make a big play.

Zyon McCollum plays with a lot of heart and you have to admire that trait with his game. At the same he's someone who probably has more success if he starts in a depth role and works his way up a teams depth chart. In this situation, Zyon McCollum will have to start right away.

  3. Houston Texans: Josh Paschal, RE, Kentucky

The 6-4 268 lb Josh Paschal can win off the edge with his speed. Josh Paschal is versatile enough to play 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 right end, 3-4 left end, 3-4 right outside linebacker, and 3-4 left outside linebacker. He has good, but not great rip and swim moves. I like Paschal's potential as an NFL pass rusher, but he's raw and a liability against the run. He may need a year to come into his own like Jonathan Greenard did this past season, but he's got speed and versatility in spades. Since I didn't mock a defensive end to Houston earlier, they get Josh Paschal here and are hoping this pick pans out since he can be deadly as a pass rusher at times while covering effecively.

  4. Seattle Seahawks: Mykael Wright, CB, Oregon

The 5-10 173 lb Mykael Wright can cover effectively at times. He's going to struggle against faster receivers. I gave Wright a B+ grade in man, zone, and press coverage, but A grade potential down the road for coverage is there if you can clean up his game. He has trouble controlling his emotions as demonstrated against Ohio State. He's more on the Cortland Finnegan end of the spectrum than the Pacman Jones spectrum of cornerbacks meaning that while Wright can play dirty at times, he's clean off the field. Seattle hit on a day 3 cornerback out of Stanford with Richard Sherman. If they can do the same with Mykael Wright, Seattle's rebuild may not be as brutal as anticipated.

  5. Baltimore Ravens: Dohnovan West, C, Arizona State

The 6-3 296 Dohnovan West looked a day 1 starter in three of the four games I saw of him on film. Like Arizona State left tackle Kellen Diesch, he was a bright spot on Arizona State's offensive line pass blocking for Jayden Daniels and run blocking for Rachaad White. He's not great, but he's got a nice mean streak. He's good enough to replace Bradley Bozeman who the Ravens have yet to replace in this mock draft.

  6. New York Jets: Rasheed Walker, LT, Penn State

New York grabs a developmental left tackle in the fourth round. The Jets need depth at offensive tackle behind Mekhi Becton and George Fant.

Rasheed Walker can pass block and run block effetively as he shows the pass blocking strength, run blocking strength, pass blocking footwork, and run blocking footwork. The rest of his game needs to develop in terms of zone blocking, cut blocking, and pancake blocking. He had the most success against Michigan of any left tackle in this draft and he was a preseason first round prospect making him an ideal candidate for the New York Jets on day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft.

  7. New York Giants: Brandon Smith, 3-4 MLB, Penn State

The 6-3 250 lb Brandon Smith ran a 4.52 40 time at the 2022 NFL Combine. He's effective when he has space, but his play is inconsistent. He also struggles at winning blocks. New York needs a second starter next to Blake Martinez at 3-4 middle linebacker, so they gamble on Brandon Smith and hope he becomes that guy in the NFL.

  8. Washington Commanders: Erik Ezukanma, WR, Texas Tech

Washington drafts the 6-2 209 lb Erik Ezukanma to compliment Terry McLaurin on the outside while Dyami Brown plays in the slot. Erik Ezukanma is fast and gets great separation on runs. He blocks well and had 7 receptions for 179 receiving yards in the season opener where Texas Tech defeated a Houston Cougars team that has cornerback Marcus Jones. Ezukanma constantly humiliated Jones in this contest despite playing overly aggressive at times.

Erik Ezukanma also corrected his route tree at the Texas Tech Pro Day. This is another thing that impressed me with Erik Ezukanma since he could be a better route runner in the NFL then he was in the Big 12. He's faster on film in terms of game speed then the 4.55 40-time he ran at Texas Tech's Pro Day.

  9. Atlanta Falcons: Verone McKinley III, SS, Oregon

The 5-10 198 lb Verone McKinley III had 44 solo tackles, 33 assisted tackles, 77 total tackles, 6 deflections from pass breakups, and 6 interceptions in 2021. He displays great zone coverage ability as he kept both Washington tight end Cade Otton and UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich in check. Atlanta would have Verone McKinley III at strong safety and Richie Grant at free safety as their potential starters if the Falcons opted to draft Verone McKinley III here in the fourth round.

  10. Denver Broncos: Isaiah Thomas, 3-4 LOLB, Oklahoma

Denver drafts a second pass rusher for depth at edge rusher. The 6-4 258 lb Isaiah Thomas matched his 8 sacks from 2020 in 2021 once Ronnie Perkins left. He's not as fast as his teammate Nik Bonitto, but he makes up for this with his experience as a starter. Denver gets Isaiah Thomas as a backup to Bradley Chubb.

  11. Denver Broncos: Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State

The 6-5 250 lb Jeremy Ruckert would be a depth tight end behind Albert Okwuegbunam now that Noah Fant has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks. Ruckert catches, runs routes, and blocks well for a tight end. He's good in these categories, but not great or elite in any of these categories. Against Penn State, Jeremy Ruckert made Jaquan Brisker miss a tackle when fighting for a first down. This separated Ruckert from Wisconsin tight end Jake Ferguson in my honest opinion. Ryan Day didn't use Ruckert enough in the passing game.

  12. New York Jets: D'Marco Jackson, ROLB, Appalachian State

New York gets a linebacker who can come in and compliment both Quincy Williams and C.J. Mosley in a depth role for their nickel defense. D'Marco Jackson is versatile enough to play 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 middle linebacker, and 4-3 left outside linebacker. If New York still ran a 4-3 base defense instead of a nickel defense, I do believe D'Marco Jackson could be a day 1 starter on this defense.

The 6-0 235 lb D'Marco Jackson had 57 solo tackles, 63 assisted tackles, 120 total tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 12 quarterback hurries, 6 sacks, 5 deflections from pass breakups, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble. D'Marco Jackson has the speed, versatility, football IQ, eyes, instincts, pass rushing, run stuffing, and coverage you want a starting linebacker to have in the NFL. D'Marco Jackson is a steal for the New York Jets at this point as the former Appalchian State captain won defensive player of the year in the Sun Belt Conference.

  13. Cleveland Browns: Thomas Booker, DT, Stanford

Cleveland adds a 4-3 defensive tackle for depth. The 6-3 310 lb Thomas Booker was a two time captain at Stanford and he also ran a 4.94 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. Thomas Booker also played on special teams. Cleveland now has Taven Bryan, Tommy Togiai, Jordan Elliott, and now Thomas Booker as the four defensive tackles on their depth chart.

  14. Baltimore Ravens: Tyreek Smith, 3-4 LOLB, Ohio State

The 6-3 245 lb Tyreke Smith has good athleticism along with ideal rip and swim moves. Tyreke Smith can play 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right outside linebacker, or 3-4 left outside linebacker with his versatility. Like I said back in round 2, with Odafe Oweh and Tytus Bowser both potentially being injured next season, Baltimore is gonna need bodies at the edge spot.

  15. New Orleans Saints: Damone Clark, MLB, LSU

Pete Werner had an okay rookie season, but Baron Browning was the best linebacker on Ohio State's linebacker core in the 2021 NFL Draft. Pete Werner had 30 solo tackles, 26 assisted tackles, and 56 total tackles in 13 starts while Browning had 32 solo tackles as a rookie seeing limited action in 9 starts. It's too early to say which Ohio State linebacker will have the better NFL career, but one linebacker with a higher ceiling then Werner is on the board and New Orleans can draft him as a future player to develop here.

The 6-4 239 lb Damone Clark had 78 solo tackles, 59 assisted tackles, 137 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 3 deflections from pass breakups, 2 quarterback hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery in 2021. Damone Clark averaged 11 tackles per game at LSU in 2021 while joining Nakobe Dean, Devin Lloyd, Chad Muma, Leo Chenal, and Darrian Beavers as one of six finalists for the Dick Butkus Award.

Damone Clark is the only one of those six linebackers left on the board as he can do it all whether its get pressure on the quarterback, stop the run, or drop back into coverage. Clark ran a 4.57 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. You could argue he's a second or third round talent, but the biggest reason he's going to fall is because he had spinal fusion surgery to repair a herniated disk following the 2022 NFL Combine.

Damone Clark has potential to be an NFL starter in 2023. One team that can gamble on Clark in the third round is New Orleans because if 2021 second round pick Pete Werner doesn't break out in 2022, then Werner and Clark can compete for the starting middle linebacker job when the New Orleans Saints 2023 Training Camp begins after Clark recovers from his spinal fusion surgery.

  16. Kansas City Chiefs: Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State

The 6-0 193 lb Khalil Shakir can run all 30 routes on the route tree and had the best route running of any wide receiver at the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl. Shakir ran a 4.43 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. Shakir improved on that with an official 4.35 40-time at Boise State's Pro Day.

Khalil Shakir had 77 receptions, 1,117 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns in 2021. Khalil Shakir could get picked on day 2, but he's an absolute steal by this point in day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft.

  17. Indianapolis Colts: Calvin Austin III, WR, Memphis

The 5-7 173 lb Calvin Austin III may be a good replacement to T.Y. Hilton down the road when Hilton retires. Calvin Austin III can run all 30 routes on the route tree despite his size. After Khalil Shakir he had the best route running of any wide receiver at the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl. Calvin Austin III ran a 4.32 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine.

Calvin Austin III had 63 receptions, 1,053 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns with quarterback Brady White getting him the football in 2020. Calvin Austin III had 74 receptions, 1,149 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns in 2021 once a new quarterback came in to take over for Brady White.

Calvin Austin III did a good job on film with 9 receptions, 105 receiving yards, and 2 receiving touchdowns against Mississippi State scoring one of those touchdowns against Missisippi State cornerback Martin Emerson thanks to a block by one of his offensive lineman where the offensive lineman neutralized Martin Emerson. Austin also had a punt return for a touchdown in that 31-29 Memphis win over Mississippi State.

  18. Los Angeles Chargers: Jake Ferguson, TE, Wisconsin

The Chargers get a tight end to compliment Gerald Everett here. The 6-4 244 lb Jake Ferguson only had 46 receptions, 450 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns as a senior in 2021. His game film against Nebraska was good though as he caught 8 receptions on 8 targets for 92 receiving yards against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Jake Ferguson made Nebraska cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt miss tackles on 3 of his 8 receptions in that game. He's also a really good run blocker. You could argue he's the best blocking tight end not named Trey McBride.

  19. Philadelphia Eagles: Cade Otton, TE, Washington

Philadelphia gets a tight end to compliment Dallas Goedert with Zach Ertz now in Arizona. The 6-5 250 lb Cade Otton has been cleared to play by doctors after ankle surgery which kept him out of the 2022 NFL Combine. Cade Otton would make a good number two tight end for Philadelphia.

  20. Miami Dolphins: James Cook, RB, Georgia

The 5-11 199 lb James Cook is the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook. James Cook complimented Zamir White in Georgia's backfield after both running backs were highly recruited coming out of High School in 2018.

James Cook put everything together in his senior season with 113 carries, 728 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns, 27 receptions, 284 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns, 140 touches, 1,012 total yards, and 11 total touchdowns in 2021. James Cook has the ball carrier vision, pass blocking, speed, and pass catching abillity you want a running back to display.

Wes Langley, one of my many insiders at Draft Utopia, has him ranked as the top running back in the entire 2022 NFL Draft. He compliments Chase Edmonds and Myles Gaskin quite well in Miami and will take over as the long-term starter if either running back gets injured in 2022.

  21. Las Vegas: Lecitus Smith, LG, Virginia Tech

I heard a rumor that John Simpson, the Las Vegas Raiders 2020 fourth round pick may be on the chopping block if he doesn't have a strong offseason. I hope that rumor is false because I really liked Simpson coming out of Clemson two years ago. In case that rumor is true, this is a place to mock another left guard.

The 6-3 321 lb Lecitus Smith played like an NFL starter against North Carolina, however he played like a backup against Boston College. The pass blocking, run blocking, run blocking strength, and run blocking footwork is there with Lecitus Smith. He plays with a mean streak when run blocking. The rest of his game needs to develop in order for him to succeed at the next level.

  22. New England Patriots: Marquis Hayes, LG, Oklahoma

New England gets a starting left guard to round out their offensive line. The 6-4 318 lb Marquis Hayes can pass block or run block effectively. He's got the pass blocking strength, run blocking strength, and run blocking footwork, but needs to improve his choppy pass blocking footwork.

Hayes had 12 pancake blocks and 8 pull blocks against Nebraska. This is probably why Joseph Potter, the co-host of my podcast thought he could be a day 1 starter in the NFL. Adding Hayes gives New England Isaiah Wynn at left tackle, Marquis Hayes at left guard, David Andrews at center, Michael Onwenu at right guard, and Trent Brown at right tackle.

  23. Baltimore Ravens: Zachary Carter, 3-4 RE, Florida

The 6-3 287 lb Zachary Carter is a good depth player to add behind Calias Campbell at 3-4 right end for the Balitmore Ravens. Learning under Campbell for a few years could really help Zachary Carter at five technique.

  24. Dallas Cowboys: JT Woods, FS, Baylor

Dallas has Jayron Kearse at strong safety with Donovan Wilson at free safety and Malik Hooker as a backup strong safety for depth. The 6-1 188 lb JT Woods would be a backup free safety for depth after running a 4.36 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine.

  25. Buffalo Bills: Tyler Badie, RB, Missouri

The 5-7 199 lb Tyler Badie had 268 carries, 1,604 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, 54 receptions, 330 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns, 322 touches, 1,934 total yards, and 18 total touchdowns in 2021 after taking over the running back job from Larry Roundtree III. Tyler Badie displayed the same ball carrier vision, pass blocking, speed, and pass catching abilityt hat Larry Roundtree III did. Tyler Badie also dominated the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl and ran a 4.45 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. With Badie, Buffalo now has Devin Singletary, Duke Johnson, Zack Moss, and Tyler Badie in their backfield with Badie starting out on special teams and working his way up the depth chart over time.

  26. Tennessee Titans: John Metchie III, WR, Alabama

The 5-11 187 lb John Metchie III can run 24/30 routes on the route tree. He's a better route runner than Jameson Williams just by looking at the tape. John Metchie III had 96 receptions, 1,142 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns in 2021. John Metchie III would make a perfect slot receiver in Tennessee next to A.J. Brown and Robert Woods.

  27. Green Bay Packers: Matthew Butler, 3-4 RE, Tennessee

The 6-3 299 lb Matthew Butler has the speed, bull rush, and hands that you want in a five technique after displaying 8.5 tackles for a loss, 7 quarterback hurries, and 5 sacks in 2021. Matthew Butler is versatile enough to play 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 right end, or 3-4 left end with his versatility. Green Bay drafts Butler as a 3-4 defensive end for depth behind Dean Lowry at 3-4 right end and Jarran Reed at 3-4 left end.

  28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Christopher Hinton, 3-4 RE, Michigan

The 6-4 305 lb Christopher Hinton is the son of former Northwestern left tackle Chris Hinton from the 1983 NFL Draft. Christopher Hinton has great speed and strength. He's got the block shedding you want along with a good first step in explosion. Christopher Hinton can play 4-3 defensive tackle or 3-4 right end with his versatility. He's an ideal replacement for Ndamukong Suh at this point in the fourth round.

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Haskell Garrett, DT, Ohio State

San Francisco adds depth at 4-3 defensive tackle. Javon Kinlaw and Arik Armstead are good starters at 4-3 defensive tackle, but one more defensive tackle for depth could certainly be added.

The 6-1 298 lb Haskell Garrett showed promise against Clemson in Ohio State's Sugar Bowl win over Clemson where he swatted passes down in the College Football Playoff before losing the 2021 National Championship Game to Alabama. Garrett also demonstrated good rip, swim, and spin moves which is why he entered the preseason as a day 2 prospect. Haskell Garrett followed that up with 12 solo tackles 10 assisted tackles, 22 total tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 1 deflection from a pass breakup, 1 blocked punt, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 defensive touchdown in 2021. While Garrett had career highs, he didn't live up to the preseason hype as a day 2 prospect, but he could still provide value as a day 3 pick in a depth role on a team like San Francisco.

  30. Kansas City Chiefs: Bubba Bolden, SS, Miami FL

The 6-2 209 lb Bubba Bolden did a great job blitzing on film. He actually did well against Alabama with 1 deflection to prevent a 14-0 lead over Miami FL before he got ejected for targeting. He also showcased the versatility to play 4-3 right end off the edge, 4-3 left end off the edge, 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, strong safety, and free safety. Bubba Bolden ran a 4.47 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine.

Kansas City has Juan Thornhill starting at strong safety and Justin Reid starting at free safety. Kansas City is obviously drafting Bubba Bolden for depth here.

  31. Cincinnati Bengals: Mario Goodrich, CB, Clemson

Cincinnati gets another cornerback. The 6-0 186 lb Mario Goodrich showed the versatility to line up at both field and boundary cornerback. I gave Goodrich an A- grade in man coverage, a B+ in zone coverage, a B in press coverage, and a A+ grade against the run. He can play in a cover 0, cover 1, or cover 2 scheme. Goodrich had 10 deflections from pass breakups in 2021 and is the best run stuffing cornerback in the entire 2022 NFL Draft. Mario Goodrich is someone who could develop into a potential replacement for Eli Apple despite being a day 3 pick.

  32. Carolina Panthers: Braxton Jones, LT, Southern Utah

The 6-5 306 lb Braxton Jones had the pass blocking, run blocking, and zone blocking based on his 2020 tape. Heading into 2021 he needed to get stronger. Jones did just that which is why he moved up from a fifth round prospect to a late fourth round prospect. He also played well enough at the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl to be the blindside to Malik Willis on the American Team. Jones followed that up with a 4.97 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. Braxton Jones can compete with last years third round pick Brady Christensen for the left tackle job since Cameron Erving has no business at the blindside. This is assuming Carolina drafts a quarterback instead of wisely opting for Charles Cross at 6. If Carolina takes Cross, then this pick will be used on a quarterback, but in this mock I gave the Panthers Malik Willis at 6.

  33. Pittsburgh Steelers: Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State

The Pittsburgh Steelers got this compensation pick at 138 for losing their 2015 first round pick Bud Dupree, who left Pittsburgh to sign a long-term contract with the Tennessee Titans. Alvin "Bud" Dupree nicknamed Bud Dupree only had 3 sacks in his first season with the Tennessee Titans, despite being a productive pass rusher, Dupree never had 10 sacks at Kentucky or in the NFL.

The 6-0 194 lb Tariq Castro-Fields has an A- grade in man coverage, an A- in zone coverage, a B+ grade in press coverage, a B grade for foot speed, and a C- grade against the run since he struggles with wrapping up tackles despite running a 4.38 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. His best scheme fits are cover 0, cover 1, and cover 2 schemes. He can replace Joe Haden, but will need to be coached up by Pittsburgh for a year or two when attempting to stuff rushers on running plays.

Pittsburgh has Levi Wallace and Cameron Sutton competing for the number one field cornerback job with two number two corners pushing each other to be the number one corner. Wallace gained some experience as a number one corner with the Bills when Tre'Davious White went on injured reserve while Sutton was Pittsburgh's best corner down the stretch. Ahkello Witherspoon is back at nickel too, but outside of Sutton, the other two Free Agents just seem like stop gaps.

Justin Layne, Tariq Castro-Fields, and James Pierre would be the depth corners on Pittsburgh. Tariq Castro-Fields would be the number four cornerback on the depth chart by the end of his rookie season, and would be ready to play by 2023 unless the top 3 cornerbacks on the Steelers depth chart all step up in 2022.

  34. Baltimore Ravens: Matt Waletzko, LT, North Dakota

The Baltimore Ravens got this compensation pick at 139 for losing their 2016 fifth round pick Matt Judon, who left Pittsburgh to sign a long-term contract with the New England Patriots. Matt Judon had a career high 12.5 sacks in 2021. Baltimore may have made the wrong decision by letting Judon walk, but at least they got a compensation pick for losing Judon.

The 6-6 310 lb Matt Wealetzko struggled on film against FBS teams. Despite this, he did well at the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl, the 2022 NFL Combine, and North Dakota's Pro Day. He's got a massive wingspan with a great arm length and hand size. He's someone who could be a good backup at left tackle. He may get playing time if Ronnie Stanley gets injured for a third year in a row in 2022.

  35. Green Bay Packers: Obinna Eze, LT, TCU

The Green Bay Packers got this compensation pick at 140 for losing their 2014 fifth round pick Cory Linsley, who left Green Bay to sign a long-term contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. Corey Linsley gave Justin Herbert a center he could depend on in Los Angeles while Green Bay reloaded at center when they drafted Josh Myers out of Ohio State with their 2021 third round pick, which was the same college Linsley went to.

The 6-6 321 lb Obinna Eze is someone that Green Bay can groom to replace David Bahktiari. Obinna Eze is a lingering blocker in pass protection that can maintain blocks for 3-5 seconds. Obinna Eze has the pass blocking and run blocking you want a left tackle to have even though he's better in pass protection at this point. He pull blocks effectively too. Needs to develop as a zone blocker, get stronger, and improve his footwork, but if he corrects those weaknesses he's got an outside shot to develop into an NFl starter.

  36. Baltimore Ravens: Pierre Strong Jr., RB, South Dakota State

The Baltimore Ravens got this compensation pick at 141 for losing Yannick Ngakoue, who left Baltimore to sign a contract to the Las Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas traded Yannick to the Colts this season for cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.

The 5-11 207 lb Pierre Strong Jr. had 1,000 rushing yards in every season except one which was the Spring of 2021, which was South Dakota State's best season. South Dakota State made the 2020 FCS Championship during the Spring of 2021 thanks to Covid-19 where they lost to Sam Houston State.

Pierre Strong Jr. had 240 carries, 1,686 rushing yards, and 18 rushing touchdowns in 2021. Pierre Strong Jr. has the ball carrier vision and pass blocking that you want a starting running back to have. Pierre Strong Jr. corrected his pass catching at the 2022 NFL Combine where he dominated the Gauntlet drill after running a 4.37 40-time.

  37. Los Angeles Rams: Amare Barno, 3-4 LOLB, Virginia Tech

The Los Angeles Rams got this compensation pick at 142 for losing their 2017 third round pick John Johnson III, who left Los Angeles to sign a contract with the Cleveland Browns. John Johnson III had a career high 73 solo tackles, 32 assisted tackles, and 105 total tackles with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020 during his contract year before signing with Cleveland. While John Johnson III didn't match his total number of tackles in 2021, he had 3 interceptions with the Browns compared to the 1 pick he had with the Rams in 2020.

The 6-4 239 lb Amare Barno dominated in 2020 with 16.5 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks. He didn't showcase quite the same production in 2021, but he made up for it with a 4.36 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. Amare Barno provides depth at 3-4 outside linebacker as well as competition for Terrell Lewis, the Rams 2020 third round pick from Alabama who has yet to start an NFL game.

  38. Tennessee Titans: Bailey Zappe, QB, Western Kentucky

The Tennessee Titans got this compensation pick at 143 for losing their 2017 first round pick Corey Davis, who left Tennessee to sign a contract with the New York Jets. Tennessee drafted Davis with the 2017 first round pick they got from the Rams in the Jared Goff trade, before realizing he was expendable despite showing promise as a number two target. He showed he could be a number one target when A.J. Brown was injured in his contract year. He underperformed and suffered a season ending injury with the New York Jets in his first season, so the Titans made the right call by letting Davis walk.

Bailey Zappe was a three year starter at Houston Baptist Huskies getting 10,004 passing yards in the FCS which is most among any FCS quarterback of all time. Bailey Zappe dominated in 2021 and has 5,967 passing yards, 62 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Zappe led the FBS in passing yards and passing touchdowns after dominating in the FCS at Houston Baptist. Bailey Zappe dominated his bowl game against Appalachian State with 422 passing yards, 6 passing touchdowns, and 0 interceptions breaking Joe Burrow's FBS record for passing touchdowns in a season. Western Kentucky's quarterback ended the season with a 69.2 completion percentage. Bailey Zappe also accepted an invite to the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl. Bailey Zappe weighed 6-0 238 lbs in Mobile.

Zappe didn't dominate in Mobile or at the 2022 NFL Combine. He made up for this at Western Kentucky's Pro Day going 55/56 in the snow in 20 degree weather. Tennessee needs a viable backup to Ryan Tannehill so they draft Bailey Zappe to end the fourth round.
