2022 NFL Mock Draft: Final Mock 7 Rounds
Round 7
Chris Ransom follow @DraftUtopia Last Updated: April 28, 2022.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Chase Lucas, CB, Arizona State
- Jacksonville gets cornerback depth here. Right now Shaquill Griffin at field cornerback, Tyson Campbell at boundary cornerback, and Darious Williams who they got from the Rams in Free Agency at nickel cornerback. The Jaguars have no depth behind those three though.
- The 5-11 180 lb Chase Lucas was the field cornerback on Arizona State. I gave Chase Lucas an A- grade in man coverage, zone coverage, and press coverage. Chase Lucas can play cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, and cover 4. Chase Lucas ran a 4.48 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine.
- Lucas is 25-years-old, but he was once in consideration to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft as a sophomre redshirt. Chase Lucas being older than most cornerbacks along with having only 6 deflections from pass breakups are the biggest reasons he falls to the seventh round, but you could make a legitimate argument for Chase Lucas having third round tape.
Cleveland Browns: Dane Belton, SS, Iowa
- The 6-1 205 lb Dane Belton can play nickel cornerback, strong safety, or free safety with his versatility. He seems like an ideal replacement for M.J. Stewart in the seventh round.
Miami Dolphins: Jack Sanborn, 3-4 MLB, Wisconsin
- The 6-2 234 lb Jack Sanborn is a top 5 pass rushing middle linebacker in the 2022 NFL Draft. Jack Sanborn provides depth behind Jerome Baker and Elandon Roberts.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Olakunle Fatukasi, 3-4 MLB, Rutgers
- The 6-2 240 lb Olakunle Fatukasi gives Pittsburgh depth at 3-4 middle linebacker. Pittsburgh has Devin Bush and Myles Jack as the current starters at 3-4 middle linebacker with Robert Spillane for depth. Pittsburgh never replaced Joe Schobert and Olakunle Fatukasi had 11 tackles for a loss at Rutgers making him a viable replacement to Schobert since Fatukasi is also good in both man and zone coverage for a linebacker prospect.
Cincinnati Bengals: Jean Delance, RT, Florida
- The 6-5 307 lb Jean Delance is a good run blocker with the run blocking footwork you want in a right tackle, but he's a liability in pass protection. Despite this, he's the best right tackle on the board in the seventh round. He's someone who may push Isaiah Prince for the backup right tackle job.
Las Vegas Raiders: Jeremiah Moon, ROLB, Florida
- The 6-5 249 lb Jeremiah Moon gives the Raiders depth at 4-3 right outisde linebacker behind Divine Deablo. Jeremiah Moon could be an effective situational pass rusher for depth at outside linebacker on third and short blitzing situations.
Green Bay Packers: Ja'Tyre Carter, LG, Southern
- Green Bay drafts a left guard for depth behind Elgton Jenkins with only one left guard on Green Bay's depth chart. The 6-3 306 lb Ja'Tyre Carter is a good pass blocking left guard. He's got the pass blocking, pass blocking strength, and pass blocking footwork you want a left guard to have as he did well against James Houston IV at left tackle in a home contest against Jackson State. The rest of his game needs development making him a viable backup for Green Bay.
Seattle Seahawks: Luke Fortner, C, Kentucky
- The 6-3 307 lb Luke Fortner played center at Kentucky. He's someone who could be a day 1 starter as a center in Seattle. Some have him in the top 5 for centers so this pick could be a steal here.
Washington Commanders: Aqeel Glass, QB, Alabama A&M
- Washington grabs a third quarterback for depth behind Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke. Aqeel Glass is the final quarterback to crack my top 10 in my quarterback rankings.
Buffalo Bills: Jesse Luketa, LOLB, Penn State
- The 6-2 261 lb Jesse Luketa is projected to higher in a lot of mocks. He misses too many tackles on tape for my liking when watching his film. His best fit is at 4-3 left outside linebacker. He seems like an ideal replacement to A.J. Klein.
Denver Broncos: Luke Wattenberg, C, Washington
- The 6-4 299 lb Luke Wattenberg has experience at both left guard and center. Basically, he gives Denver depth at left guard behind Dalton Risner and depth at center behind Lloyd Cushenberry III. I have him playing center in the NFL with this pick, but Denver can use him in both roles as a depth player.
Kansas City Chiefs: James Houston IV, LOLB, Jackson State
- The 6-1 225 lb James Houston IV can line up at 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right outside linebacker, 3-4 left outside linebacker, 4-3 right outside linebacker, and 4-3 left outside linebacker with his versatility. James Houston IV had 52 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, 70 total tackles, 24.5 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, 8 quarterback hurries, 7 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 interception, and 2 defensive touchdowns in 2021.
- Kansas City met with James Houston IV. When Kansas City runs 4-3 plays, James Houston IV would make a good situational starter at 4-3 left outside linebacker next to Willie Gay Jr. and Nick Bolton.
Detroit Lions: Cade York, K, LSU
- The 6-2 206 lb Cade York is the top kicker in the 2022 NFL Draft. Cade York went 18/21 on field goal attempts with a career long 57 yard field goal while going 36/36 on extra point attempts in 2021. Cade York is a kicker upgrade for Detroit which is something the Lions could use after going through four kickers last year. York would still have to earn the starting kicker job by beating out Riley Peterson an undrafted Free Agent at kicker from Memphis that got cut by the Vikings and Patriots. Riley Peterson went 13/14 on field goals and won NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week in week 16 despite only having a career long 49 yard field goal.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Andrew Mevis, K, Iowa State
- The 5-10 203 lb Andrew Mevis went 20/23 on field goal attemps and 32/32 on extra point attempts with Iowa State in 2021. Jacksonville has two kickers on their depth chart, but both suck as the Jaguars went through three different kicker changes in 2021. Andrew Mevis is an upgrade over what Jacksonville currently has at kicker as Mevis was both a kicker and punter at Iowa State.
Los Angeles Chargers: Josh Johnson, WR, Tulsa
- The Chargers add a receiver for depth here. The 5-10 183 lb Josh Johnson had 83 receptions, 1,114 receiving yards, and 6 receiving touchdowns in 2021. Drafting the Tulsa wide receiver gives the Los Angeles Chargers six wide receivers including Keean Allen, Mike Williams, Josh Palmer, Jalen Guyton, Josh Johnson, and DeAndre Carter as the top six wide receivers on this depth chart for quarterback Justin Herbert.
Philadelphia Eagles: Malcolm Rodriguez, LOLB, Oklahoma State
- The 5-11 232 lb Malcolm Rodriguez gives the Philadelphia Eagles depth at outside linebacker. He can line up as 4-3 right outside linebacker, 4-3 left outside linebacker, 3-4 right outside linebacker, 3-4 middle linebacker, or 3-4 left outside linebacker for depth.
Los Angeles Rams: Akayleb Evans, CB, Missouri
- The 6-1 201 lb Akayleb Evans is versatile enough to play cornerback, strong safety, or free safety. I gave Evans an A- grade in man coverage, an A- grade in zone coverage, a D+ in press coverage, and an F grade against the run. Akayleb Evans can play cover 0, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, and cover 4. He's got good foot speed and ran a 4.46 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine.
- Akayleb Evans is versatile and he's also got a high football IQ. He's just got get stronger, improve his press coverage, and improve his ability to wrap up tackles. The potential to start at nickel cornerback next to Jalen Ramsey and Robert Rochelle in two years down the road is there despite how raw he is on film.
Indianapolis Colts: Tyler Allgeier, RB, BYU
- The 5-11 224 lb Tyler Allgeier would make a good running back for depth behind Jonathan Taylor. Tyler Allgeier had 276 carries, 1,606 rushing yards, and 23 rushing touchdowns in 2021. He was a third round prospect until he ran a 4.60 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. He's a steal at this point in the seventh round.
Washington Commanders: Carson Wells, LOLB, Colorado
- The 6-4 245 lb Carson Wells is versatile enough to play 4-3 right end, 4-3 left end, 3-4 right outside linebacker, 3-4 left outside linebacker, 4-3 right outside linebacker, and 4-3 left outside linebacker with his versatility. Carson Wells played 712 snaps posting 44 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, 62 total tackles, 19 total tackles at or behind the line of scimmage, 17 quarterback hurries, 15 tackles for a loss, 15 third down stops, 5.5 sacks, and 4 fourth down stops in 2021.
- Carson Wells can rush the passer, stop the running game, or drop back into coverage. He demonstrated his traits while showcasing the potential of a complete linebacker at the 2022 East West Shrine Game.
- Washington has Jamin Davis and Cole Holcomb as their two starting linebackers for their nickel defense. A third linebacker is needed in case Washington wants to call plays under a 4-3 base defense which Ron Rivera runs. Carson Wells can be that third linebacker.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Luke Tenuta, RT, Virginia Tech
- The 6-8 319 lb Luke Tenuta began his career at right tackle. When Christian Darrisaw declared for the 2021 NFL Draft, he made the switch to left tackle. Luke Tenuta gives Pittsburgh depth at right tackle.
Carolina Panthers: Zonovan Knight, RB, North Carolina State
- The 5-11 209 lb Zonovan Knight gives Carolina running back depth behind Christian McCaffrey and Chuba Hubbard. Zonovan Knight would make a good third string running back for Carolina.
Kansas City Chiefs: Reggie Roberson Jr., WR, SMU
- This is the third wide receiver I've mocked to Kansas City. The 5-11 192 lb Reggie Roberson Jr. would be nothing more than a return specialist assuming he made the Chiefs final 53 man roster.
Arizona Cardinals: Brock Hoffman, C, Virginia Tech
- The 6-3 317 lb Brock Hoffman provides depth at center. Remember, Rodney Hudson missed a few games at center with injuries in 2021 after staying healthy for most of his career with the Raiders. Now Arizona gets a quality backup to play center behind Rodney Hudson.
New England Patriots: Jerrion Ealy, RB, Ole Miss
- The 5-8 189 lb Jerrion Ealy would be competing for a roster spot. New England has Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson, and James White who re-signed on a cheap one year deal to return to New England. With Harris on the final year of his rookie deal and White also on a one year deal, it wouldn't be a surprise if New England drafted a fourth running back. Drafting Jerrion Ealy to be a Brandon Bolden type running back for depth here makes sense for New England.
Cleveland Browns: Tyquan Thornton, WR, Baylor
- The 6-2 192 lb Tyquan Thornton ran a 4.28 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. Tyquan Thornton had 62 receptions, 948 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2021.
- Right now, I have Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones on the outside with Jahan Dotson, the receiver I mocked to Cleveland at 44 as the new slot receiver. This leaves Anthony Schwartz as the main backup number four receiver with guys like Javon Wims and Jakeem Grant currenty playing the number five and number six roles on Cleveland's depth chart. Tyquan Thornton is talented enough to be the main backup receiver and potentially jump Anthony Schwartz on day 1.
Miami Dolphins: Dontario Drummond, WR, Ole Miss
- The 6-0 217 lb Dontario Drummond had 76 receptions, 1,028 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns in 2021. Dontario Drummond could eventually replace Cedrick Wilson Jr. as a slot receiver down the road if Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are the top two receiving options on the Miami Dolphins for the long-term.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Matt Henningsen, 3-4 LE, Wisconsin
- The 6-3 289 lb Matt Hennignsen provides depth behind William Gholston at 3-4 left end. This is an area Tampa Bay could address with a late-round pick.
Green Bay Packers: Blaise Andries, RG, Minnesota
- The 6-6 307 lb Blaise Andries would make a good backup right guard to Royce Newman. Green Bay only has one right guard on their depth chart.
Minnesota Vikings: Sincere McCormick, RB, UTSA
- Minnesota gets a third running back for depth behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison. Sincere McCormick is a very good value pick for Minnesota and he'd be a nice third string running back for Minnesota.
- The 5-8 205 lb Sincere McCormick had 249 carries, 1,467 rushing yards, and 11 rushing touchdowns i 2020. Sincere McCormick had 298 carries, 1,479 rushing yards, and 15 rushing touchdowns in 2021.
Kansas City Chiefs: Tre Sterling, FS, Oklahoma State
- The 5-11 205 lb Tre Sterling is versatile enough to play strong safety or free safety. He's a who broke up a pass intended for CeeDee Lamb when Lamb played at Oklahoma. Kansas City gets him for depth behind Justin Reid.
Cincinnati Bengals: Jake Camarda, P, Georgia
- The 6-2 180 lb Jake Camarda played both punter and kicker on Georgia. He would be a punter if he made Cincinnati's final roster after Cincinnati drafted Evan McPherson to be their kicker a year ago in the 2021 NFL Draft. Jake Camarda also had a good week at the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl before running a 4.56 40-time which was best among kickers and punters at the 2022 NFL Combine.
Los Angeles Rams: James Mitchell, TE, Virginia Tech
- The 6-4 249 lb James Mitchell gives the Los Angeles Rams a third string tight end for depth behind Tyler Higbee and Brycen Hopkins. Hopkins finally showed some promise during Super Bowl 56, but Mitchell would have gone a lot higher in the 2022 NFL Draft if a season ending injury didn't keep him out for the 2021 College Football Season.
Los Angeles Chargers: Ali Fayad, 3-4 LOLB, Western Michigan
- The Los Angeles Chargers got this compensation pick at 254 after San Diego Chargers 2015 second round pick Denzel Perryman signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers. The former Miami Hurricanes middle linebacker got cut by Carolina and revived his career with the Las Vegas Raiders.
- The Chargers get depth at 3-4 left outside linebacker in case Khalil Mack gets injured again. The 6-2 250 lb Ali Fayad had 27 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, 40 total tackles, 16 tackles for a los, 13 sacks, 9 quarterback hurries, 2 deflections from pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles in 2021.
Los Angeles Chargers: Cameron Dicker, K, Texas
- The Los Angeles Chargers got this compensation pick at 255 after 2017 third round pick Dan Feeney signed a contract with the New York Jets. The former Indiana Hoosiers interior offensive lineman could play left guard, center, or right guard with his versatility as he's currently the backup center on the New York Jets.
- The 6-1 216 lb Cameron Dicker was both a kicker and punter at Texas. Cameron Dicker went 13/15 on field goals and 49/50 on extra points. He's the All Time leader for Texas in field goals with 60 career field goals. He can come into Los Angeles and win the starting kicker job.
Arizona Cardinals: Jalen McKenzie, RT, USC
- The Arizona Cardinals got this compensation pick at 256 after former tight end Dan Arnold signed with the Carolina Panthers. Dan Arnold got traded to Jacksonville in the C.J. Henderson trade.
- The 6-5 320 lb Jalen McKenzie is someone who gives Arizona depth at right tackle. He could push for a roster spot here.
Arizona Cardinals: Armani Rogers, TE, Ohio
- The Arizona Cardinals got this compensation pick at 257 after former defensive end Angelo Blackson signed a contract with the Chicago Bears.
- The 6-5 225 lb Armani Rogers is making the transition from quarterback to tight end. However, I think he could be both a viable third string tight end and a third string quarterback on Arizona's depth chart. He'd be the third string tight end behind Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams on Arizona's depth chart. He'd also be the third string quarterback behind Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy.
Green Bay Packers: LaBryan Ray, 3-4 LE, Alabama
- The Green Bay Packers got this compensation pick at 258 for losing their 2017 fourth round pick Jamaal Williams who signed with the NFC North rival Detroit Lions. The former Packers running back complimented Aaron Jones as both Williams and Jones were from the 2017 NFL Draft. Williams was drafted ahead of Jones, but Jones ended up as the starting running back until Williams rookie deal ended. The former BYU running back was alright as a change of pace running back complimenting D'Andre Swift in Detroit during his first season with the Detroit Lions.
- The 6-4 283 lb LaBryan Ray gives Green Bay depth at 3-4 left end behind Jarran Reed. He also went to the same alma matter as Reed in Alabama.
Kansas City Chiefs: Alec Anderson, RT, UCLA
- The Kansas City Chiefs got this compensation pick at 259 for losing their linebacker Damien Wilson to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Damien Wilson had a career high 106 total tackles with the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 NFL Free Agency period afer signing with Jacksonville in 2021, which led to Kansas City getting pick 259 in the 2022 NFL Draft.
- The 6-5 305 lb Alec Anderson started at right tackle as a bookend offensive tackle to Sean Rhyan. He gives Kansas City depth at right tackle behind Lucas Niang.
Los Angeles Chargers: Isaiah Weston, WR, Northern Iowa
- The Los Angeles Chargers got this compensation pick at 260 after Los Angeles Chargers 2017 sixth round pick Sam Tevi signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Sam Tevi tore his ACL and MCL in August and missed the entire 2021 season. The Los Angeles Chargers go rewarded with this pick for letting a backup Sam Tevi walk.
- The Chargers get a return specialist here. The 6-3 214 lb Isaiah Weston ran a 4.42 40-time at the 2022 NFL Combine. The Chargers draft their second receiver here, but this one is a return specialist rather than a wide receiver for depth.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jerreth Sterns, WR, Western Kentucky
- The ampa Bay Buccaneers got this compensation pick at 261 after backup offensive tackle Joel Haeg signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Right now, Haeg is a backup offensive tackle on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers get a wide receiver for depth here. The 5-9 195 lb Jerreth Sterns had 150 receptions, 1,902 receiving yards, and 17 receiving touchdowns in 2021.
San Francisco 49ers: Michael Maietti, C, Missouri
- The San Francisco 49ers get this compensation pick at 262 because San Francisco 49ers 2017 third round pick C.J. Beathard signed a contract to be the Jacksonville Jaguars backup quarterback to Trevor Lawrence. This never happens, if the Jaguars kept Gardner Minshew II on as the backup, but I understand why the Jaguars traded Minshew to the Eagles. C.J. Beathard couldn't even keep undrafted free agent Nick Mullins from taking the backup job from him, and somehow C.J. Beathard went from being a wasted third round pick that head coach Kyle Shanahan wanted into Mr. Irrelevant thanks to the Jaguars signing Beathard during the 2021 Free Agency period.
- San Francisco uses the Mr. Irrelevant pick on a center for depth. The 6-1 290 lb center was graded as the second best center in the 2022 NFL Draft according Pro Football Focus. If he can bulk up and learn under Alex Mack, he could find himself snapping the football to Trey Lance at some point down the road.
